Yeah that's why I'd like a rip off centered around playing by yourself and not just an offline Anthem.

javelins and primers and detonators :D

A good mix of javelins was brilliant, the tank, the ninja, the other one and the one I mained.....the starter one??. Getting the combos with everyone using their specialities was good fun.

Damn the combat in that game was good *

*100% said that like fifty times in this thread

Not surprising, and absolutely typical of what EA have become.

A long way from when the EA logo splashing up on the screen usually meant good things

    Just gonna leave this here:
I think it was a mistake for Bioware to announce this. I recall an interview with Sean Murray from Hello Games a while back where he specifically advises developers who have had a bad launch with their game to stop talking about it and I think he was right. “Sorry” is not enough to cut it when fans have invested their hard earned cash and time into something that was undercooked and the only way to make it up is to simply finish what you started.

NMS comeback was a surprise. People had no idea that Hello Games were planning this big relaunch. Many, myself included, thought they had just taken the money and run. Instead, they stopped over-promising and simply got to work delivering the game they set out to make in the first place.

Bioware has been more concerned with placating fans and repairing their image with cute little social media posts. This latest announcement is their grandest promise yet and if they fail to live up to it, it will be vey damaging, especially when it has that "No Man's Sky comeback" behind it which means there's now a reference point of expectations.

I don't have Anthem and I'm not sure I'm going to get it because Destiny 2 is enough for me for now. I’d definitely get it if they do manage to properly realise their vision but I don’t have much hope for Bioware to be honest.

I don't like being smug. In fact, a part of me was hoping I was wrong as I find comeback stories inspirational, but Sean Murray was absolutely bang on the money. There is literally no benefit to announcing a roadmap of fixes. What we have to remember with Bioware is that this is company that took 2 years to even figure out what they wanted the game to be and despite EA granting them a delay they still couldn't get it together.

Mass Effect Trilogy needs to land absolutely perfect now. After abandoning Andromeda and now Anthem it could be Bioware's last chance.

I don't think its that simple in regards announcing a road map vs radio silence. Its sort of a damned if you do damned if you don't scenario.

You could argue that they should of just of said they will continue to work on the game without being specific as to what that meant but there announcement today would of been just as disappointing if that's all they had said.

I think the difference between the 2 is no one expected HG to turn NMS into what it was, and in the way they did and continue to do it. Whereas EA are way bigger with a massively bigger audience who cry and clamber and shout for updates, etc. Radio silence from a larger dev wouldn't be taken as well as radio silence from a small or new dev. But I do agree that it's better to shut up, fix it and then say you've fixed it and release the fix for free.

The thing is when you say you're making a 2.0 comeback akin to something like No Man's Sky Next you're setting a second expectation and therefore a potential second disappointment.

I've noticed that developers who spend too much time on social media placating fans and providing updates when somebody farts in the office are often the ones that don't tend to deliver whereas the ones who are more silent seem more committed. It's a demonstration of one's priorities. In CDPR and Bioware's case, their number 1 priority is to repair their public image no matter what, not deliver a quality game and I think that's ultimately why they failed. There is a strain of egotism and narcissism that runs within their companies. From "Bioware magic" to "we made The Witcher 3".

Had they not announced anything and just worked on the overhaul in secret, people would have kept criticizing them for just abandoning the game. Perhaps the small community that was still playing would have moved on other things. There was never any win win scenario for them.

In fairness to Bioware after they announced they intended to overhaul the game the where pretty quiet, I don't recall hearing much from them about it since. Maybe 2-3 updates so I don't think it was a case of them being on social media too much.

maybe bioware can go back to what they have historically been damn good at........sp story driven rpgs, if they even exist in anyway the same shape or form anymore

As so many other gaming companies have before them when they were bought by EA they lost their soul over time and got retired to the "Used to be a good gaming company" graveyard. Bioware is gone; enjoy the games they made historically but forget anything else coming out from them.

    Single player, you say?

Electronic Arts Removes Multiplayer Mode From Dragon Age Game in Big Pivot
The diverging trajectories of two recent games changed the minds of Wilson and other executives at EA, according to the people. One was Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, a single-player game released in November 2019 that won critical acclaim and outperformed EA’s sales expectations, reaching more than 10 million players in its first four months. The second was BioWare’s Anthem, a multiplayer game that was widely panned when it launched. The games showed that single-player games could still be lucrative and that BioWare, traditionally known for its single-player, role-playing games, might be better off returning to its roots. A spokesman for EA declined to comment.

Dragon age inquisition was the only DA game to have MP so far and while the game wasn't a big success the MP was good just inherently won't have the numbers wanting it. MP in Mass effect is a big deal since that got added, even have a decent amount of people pissed it's not in the remaster. Would put money on MP being in the next ME game.

Considering EA didn't comment I'm guessing they're still going to have MP in it.

I just bought the Legion of Dawn edition for under 7 quid now that I know not to expect any major updates.
I'm looking forward to it as I liked the little I played in the open beta despite the loading times and disconnecting issues (which have likely been fixed by now).

ETA: Now fully expect Anthem to go free to play or be available for free on PS plus in April.

Better off just having zero expectation for anything with Biowares name on it from now on i was very skeptical of Anthem on announcement and rightly so i guess. EA continues to milk the reputation of good studios and throw them to the kerb a few years later.

So I'm playing this right now and so far...I'm kind of enjoying it? It's not perfect butI like the shooting and flying. I'm playing as the mage character (the javelin that fires all the elements) and I have to admit hovering in the air while my cape flaps in the wind like a superhero feels pretty badass. In co-op it can turn into a fashion showdown at times with each mage javelin trying to out-pose one another. There was one player during a mission that would literally stand beside me flexing their look during downtime and their outfit was just not as cute as mine because they have no taste and think that putting an almost ghastly light blue against jet black is what is deemed fashionable; it was hilarious.

Anyway, I really like how this javelin moves and I’ve got some good weapons so far. I also like that you don't get access to your loot until the forge which makes sense as you're not some expert engineer that knows how to break down weapons on the fly. There are dedicated engineers at the forge for that sort of thing. It also means you get time to spend with your weapon rather than just mindlessly swapping things out. The cut scene presentation and the characters are good so far, as expected from Bioware, and I like that choosing the right dialogue earns you loyalty points. There’s a reason to get to know NPCs other than just picking up contracts. I kind of like Owen even though I know I shouldn’t, as he’s such an obvious and easy character to like.

However, the world of Anthem, for all its lore upon lore upon lore that it spoon-feeds you through really clunky exposition… feels strangely “small”. It doesn’t feel remotely believable. Games like Destiny and The Division feel grand in scope. Their maps are relatively small but I totally buy that I’m just playing in a small section of it, and that there is life beyond the wall. Anthem feels more like a playground with nothing beyond. The fact that hardly anybody is playing contributes to that lack of believability. You encounter one or two freelancers at best in free roam and matchmaking is slow going. In Destiny 2 you will see player guardians all over the place just completing world events together and it’s intimidating in a good way. It makes you feel like you’re just one of many, like its world and characters exists whether you’re there or not.

Also, I’m not sure how the game wants me to play it? I’m enjoying the combat but whether I’m playing it correctly remains to be seen. Right now I’m flying while shooting and then zipping around in cover while in the air, yet the game tells me to hover for shield boost efficiency. The enemy behaviour doesn’t really allow for hovering in one place for too long at lower levels since they swarm you from all angles. It’s only really doable at that point in co-op but matchmaking is dead which is a bummer. Some of the level design also doesn’t feel right for flight - lots of unnecessary obstructions. It may just be that I need to get used to the flight controls but starting a game that lets you fly and the controls are not inverted by default seems amateurish.

Lastly, the obnoxious shoving in the face of cosmetics with NPCs encouraging you to 'make a statement' with your amour is so transparent and gross. Just stop, EA.

The music is really catchy. I've been humming the theme tune since yesterday lol

Also, just realised you can access your weapons outside of the forge but you can't craft outside of the forge. They hid that well. Kind of wish you could only do everything back in the fort because there is a nasty bug where you get stuck in the menu and it won't allow you to exit causing a hard restart. Even buying a game 2 years after release does not guarantee polish anymore apparently...

Some of the game's systems and terminologies aren't very well explained. For instance, I had to look up what the game considers 'gear' and 'effect' as they are vague terms when trying to create builds.

I've unlocked a new javelin and chose the Colossus but tbh I can't imagine playing as anything but the Storm javelin. Not to flex but in co-op I'm always the highest performing and I suspect that's largely because of the Storm's massive area of effect. I'm killing groups of enemies in one hit and killing the boss type enemies in one Ultimate. I just can't imagine how the other javelins can top it.

Game is ripping the piss now with Elemental Rage, I have got 7 of them today.

Some things don't change. :D I absolutely love this gun though and got a level 70ish version of it from one of the offerings in the tomb.

That mid story character turnaround had me doing this for about 1 minute:

Really enjoying the game. Sad my time with it is near an end as I'm closing in on the platinum. It's a really fun action RPG but doesn't really work as a looter shooter and hence why I won't stick with it.

Booted this up last night . While the characters and their dialogue seem to be awful the game is actually fun ? Like being iron man I'm sure it will prob get repetitive quickly
