Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. I'm amazed that there wasn't better security, tbh.

It's incredible that they don't have tighter security, if not even a police escort.

    Thanks,

That'd be a good workout handballing them fcukers. A box of 5,000 rounds is small but it's heavy so lugging 60 boxes of them would be an effort. They'd probably fit in the boot of a normal size car.

Reminds me of when the IRA nicked all the FCA ammo. I think it was somewhere in the region of 300,000 too.

Or the NI bank notes, what are they going to do with 300k of 22.

Good question, I can't imagine many criminals with 22s when they could get 9mms.

Bet there are still a few chopped .22 rifles or old handguns in .22 in the criminal pool out there.
    OR
Single-shot Zip guns ala the improvised munitions handbook in .22 will do your drug dealing oppo in just as well. Knock them out for 200 quid each...
    OR
Convert those nicked 600 air rifles to .22, single shots? Criminals are very ingenious types, and not fussy about what they have that goes Pew!.

Of course, but there is no way they're going to be able to sell 300,000 rounds.

You have to admire their ingenuity, or someone's, you'd wonder how anyone found out about that.

As for the 300k rounds of .22, maybe they hit the truck near its departure location, but is it possible they didnt know what was in it? because how are they going to shift 300k rounds of ammunition and not get noticed, whats the volume?

when you think about it, I havent measured a box, but it'd be fairly compact?
300k/500 is 600 bricks, maybe 5 x 14 bricks in a layer is a metre squared, 70 bricks, 8.5 layers is close to 300k (obviously no half layers), that doesnt even seem like what might be considered a full pallet, Im going off the top of my head of a 50rnd box at 70mm L x 40mm W x 30mm high, does that seem right?

or someone isnt happy about the price of .22 and decided to get a bulk delivery

    A 5000 round case of CCI is 380mm x 170mm x 160mm. Not that feckin big.

I may have overestimated a box/brick size, I made a rough guesstimate and did it literally on the back of an envelope, but a quick calculation says 1.2m x 1m by about 550mm high for your dimensions

which is similar to my 1m x 1m x 680mm high, now the weight, thats a bit different, might it have been on 2 pallets? I dont know how it arrives,
and the cost at an approx easy to use €10/box, thats €60k, sounds cheap and a lot less volume than I initally thought when I heard 300k rnds.
Return on disposing 60k real worth and the likelyhood of getting caught once its found in circulation and getting traced back to the point of origin? and the penalty for it, I wonder is someone going to ditch it in a quarry

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,452 ✭✭✭garrettod

My bet is that. 22 rounds will end up being sold on Moore Street, along with dodgy cigarettes and fireworks, at Halloween time.

    Thanks,

There's a story in the German news today about how their army seems to be having a bit of a neo-nazi issue and as part of this it was noticed that ammo and weapons were going missing, generally a few assault rifles a year and around 100,000 rounds over the last 10 years. The special forces unit seem to be particularly affected and they were offered recently a secret general anonymous amnesty on missing ammo: turns out they recovered a few ten thousand more bullets than they had listed as missing, as well as a few grenades

That's OLD Ursula Van Der Leyen news... When she was minister for defence and left the Bundeswehr in worse condition than the Wehrmacht when it surrendered in May 1945:eek:
Strangely it happened to be military police officers...
Yeah...It is easy to blame "neo-Nazis" in the Bundeswehr" for all this sort of shenanigans esp when it comes out that it actually was bad administration and bookkeeping and stuff being lost in Afghanistan or ammo being lost out by recruits on manoeuvres.
Of course, the dead giveaway of Neo-Nazis are soldiers singing old trad German marching songs like "Erica" ,"black and brown are the Hazelnuts" or"Lilly Marlene":rolleyes: IOW the entire German army, as you all get to sing them thru every town, village and hamlet on route marches...But Van der Lier was looking at having those banned as they were "rightwing with Nazi connotations!"
I'm sure like in ANY army you are going to have some Right and Left extremists there for the weapons training. That's a known fact, but to suggest there is a whole division of off duty brown shirted Seig Heiling lads down the pub cleaning out armouries and ammo depots is media hype.

Agreed that a few extremists in an army is to be expected Grizzly, but here we're talking a few (20 under investigation) out of a 1000 man elite unit, which is a bit much

Let's be fair here now, historically people in the military, by and large, were right wing and 2% of a population is nothing. Factoring in margin of error, this could drop to the national average.

Do you mean this lad that was found in May last year in Saschen Anhalt who was a KSK trooper?
It's never been made public yet as to exactly what he had apart from the usual sweeping media terms..."A machinegun" tells us nothing much... or that he had "large amounts of rifle and pistol ammo."He could have smuggled all that in from a tour of duty in Afghanistan or the Balkans. It doesn't mean it all walked out of the barracks armoury! Be a major scandal if it did!

While an alarming find, it's one particular man and the trouble with German media saying "extreme right-wing" it almost instantly equals Neo-Nazi in everyone's perception over there. You'll get to see this as you will be over there for a spell in the German perception.
Could be this unit lost good friends and comrades in Afghanistan, and are bitter against Afghani Taliban or something of the like..that in today's PC world classifies you as a right-wing extremist.

Someone got pissed one night and sang the Horst Wessel leid up in the barracks with his boozed-up mates? Neo-Nazis in the Heer!
There is a lot more to this story, and the backstory and context of this is important too
I'm not trying to excuse or justify it BTW, but this is almost a regular occurrence in the Bundeswehr that they are finding neo-Nazis hiding under every cot, or right-wing extremists in every locker. and have been doing so since the Bundeswehr was founded. And in this case, it's juicy , because it's the KSK[ Germanys SAS] that's involved.

I’m quite sure that if you went scratching the surface a wee bit here and there in Ireland that you’ll find a few people in the Defence Forces and the Dail and possibly the Gardai who privately think Eoin o’Duffy was a great lad.

I've seen it written in a few places, here is one in English.
A report by Germany's Military Counterintelligence Service (MAD) in January revealed that 500 soldiers in the German military were being investigated for right-wing extremism.

MAD noted that 20 of the suspected right-wing extremism cases currently being processed were within the KSK. In relation to the number of personnel, this was five times the proportion in the rest of the Bundeswehr.
    https://www.dw.com/en/ksk-german-special-forces-company-dissolved-due-to-far-right-concerns/a-54386661

I think it goes a bit beyond the 'anything right = nazi hysteria' though, this is what I've gathered so far from reading related articles..

It's hard to tell of course cause they are a secret unit but it does seem like there was/is a cell of a neo-nazi group in there. Daniel K was one of the KSK trainers and recruiters and was supposed to be kicked out recently after it was discovered he was in a NDP youth group and lied about it

Andre S. set up an underground "Day - X" prepper group and ran illegal shooting courses

The guy you mentioned above had a few Nazi paraphernalia and was also a part of the prepper group I think, although he claimed differently in court.

And they were all involved in a leaving party with hitler salutes and nazi-rock that made the news a few years ago.

Also associated with the prepper group and Andre S. was regular soldier and neo-nazi Franco A. who was pretending to be a syrian refugee and was arrested for planning a false flag attack.

Could all be coincidence alright, maybe they really are just preppers, or collectors or assholes who find hitler salutes funny, but it's the kind of thing that definitely needs to be investigated.

Deutsche Welle, saw that article, again MSM giving broad brushstrokes to this story.

Andre S. set up an underground "Day - X" prepper group and ran illegal shooting courses

His name has shown up since the National Socialist Underground affair in the late oughties where this group was shooting Turkish emigrants all over Germany, and finally were trapped in a camper van and ostensibly committed suicide in Bavaria.
[Strange how someone who shot themselves in the head with a pump-action could eject the spent shell and reload a fresh one, and then set a camper van on fire:eek:]
The day X [Tag X] is from the Turner diaries, which the NSU was obsessed with. So it kind of strange that they are pulling this old story into it.

The problem is that there was a lot of involvement and ties to Germany's secret services the BND with the NSU, and its still not clear whether this NSU was a "lightning rod" organisation set up by the BND

The guy you mentioned above had a few Nazi paraphernalia and was also a part of the prepper group I think, although he claimed differently in court.

    The Nord KreutzNorthern Cross group?
That is a story in itself. That ties in with all this does attract a bunch of weirdos alright and is still active today, As it isn't a proscribed group under german law

Ah ok, that's what it's from. I think it must have come back into prominence amongst these people around the time of the refugee crisis, like with most apocalypse theories, you just keep refitting them to the next crisis.

    .
Yeah exactly them. It's fascinating to read about it all. When I lived in Austria I had a rough idea of the situation there, but there it's got a very different character I think, far-right politics is a lot more normalised so you hear quite often things like "local village councillor resigns after being photographed with a swastika", the monthly 'Einzelfall', but it's not a big deal. Now perhaps Austria also has the cell networks too as they definitely did in the 80s but in Germany it seems much more underground and extreme, and feels a bit more dangerous because of that.
It's a complex mix of everything we've mentioned and is a situation that needs to be nipped in the bud, but it is unfair to say that the entire Bundeswehr has a neo-nazi problem.

Looks like its one person, I think they will sort that out.
Ive heard of similar for the US, where gangs were encouraging members to join the army/marines to get weapons training and combat experience.
But this is one person, meanwhile Im wondering how long it would take me to go through 300k

I actually spoke to that lad before and I can honestly say that the article is complete bullsh*t, along with the other 5 or so copy and pastes. He had a group called Na Ridirí or the Knights in English which was a group for young lads to get in shape, do litter clean up, book reviews etc. The controversy about it was the lad in charge wore a t-shirt with a sonnenrad which is a right wing symbol associated with neo-nazis and the like. I don't think he was that way enclined but I'm not sure, I only spoke to him about Irish gun laws. He made a post on gun rights so I just offered a little information. The lad isn't even in the army:D that does to show how little these "journalists" know.

Looks like its one person, I think they will sort that out.
Ive heard of similar for the US, where gangs were encouraging members to join the army/marines to get weapons training and combat experience.
But this is one person, meanwhile Im wondering how long it would take me to go through 300k

If you had 300k rounds, you wouldn't be as stingy with it as you probably are now. :D

I could easily shoot up to 500 rounds of .22 at the range on a Saturday (pre-lockdown). Shoot 100 or 200 in the rifle, some more in the pistol, go in for a cup of tea and talk sh1te and then back out for another couple of hundred rounds. Doesn't be long going.

Hell yeah, its a problem in the US armed forces alright, and has been because they aren't really getting much in fresh recruits and these guys are doing their military job of killing Americas "enemies" extremely well.
You are a recruiting Sgt, you have a quota to make, you aren't going to be too fussy about what this fresh meat has in tats so long as they meet uniform regulations and are not visible below the forearms or facial or on the hands.

You will be a whatever you signed up for FIRST and your political outlook is irrelevant by the end of basic training.
After all your new "battle buddy" might just be chosen by your SGt to suit your views. Imagine a KKK supporter ending up with a black gay lad as his BB:D:D

He's got a nice Libel case there then if he can disprove and justify his situation.

Right I remember that now, wasn't there always the suspicion that there was another member who was never uncovered.. not too hard to believe when you consider how long they managed to operate without the authorities having a clue

Yeah, long suspected that it was their BND handler or the other German intell agency The BVS? The two have an interservice rivalry that makes MI5/MI6 look like a polite chat over tea. So it has happened that both have stamped on each others toes in covt operations, with plenty of laughs and gaffs aplenty.

A good docu drama on this is 2016 The NSU complex on Netflix for those who want a good story.

Now perhaps Austria also has the cell networks too as they definitely did in the 80s but in Germany, it seems much more underground and extreme and feels a bit more dangerous because of that.

The Austrians are alot more anal about this than Germans. After all,it was one of theirs that started this whole thing :pac::D. They have the world convinced that Hitler was German, and Beethoven was Austrian. It is seriously a more Eastside problem in Germany than the Western side. T
They never had the guilt complex indoctrinated into them about Nazism under Communist rule. After all, the Socialists were persecuted and executed just as much by the Nazis as the Jews, and your parents are good Socialists,so why should you feel guilty about what the Nazis did to them?

I got out 6 times between October and December in 1 or 2 hour slots (covid timetables :( ) and did minimum 200 rounds per session on the cz. And that was with 2 5-round mags :D
I'd say I'd easily burn through my allocated ammo license allowance (500 rds) in less than 3hrs.

Always brought my travel mug so I had hot coffee while reloading mags :p

Reminds me of the guy in the black tee-shirt from the "Trailer park boys", who was never seen without a glass in his mitt :D

330,000 rounds of Eley .22lr ammo seized in a raid on a flat in Leeds, six arrested. Seems to have been a lot of raids on suspected illegal firearms dealers across the Uk last night.

I could never understand the attraction of that thing, i've managed for years to do without suckerberk and his silly invention. Ditto mobile phones, had one for a while and they are a bloody nuisance of a thing. Got rid and don't miss it at all.
