You see, we accept slack performance in this country, that is why less than a hundred thousand people have had a vaccine in two months!
And supply HAS been sitting around at times, especially recently when the issue between getting either Astra or Pfizer came up.

Aah shur, we'll get the vaccines done soon enough anyway!
I understand it's a matter of deep regret in government that you weren't called on to run it!

It's fantastic to see vaccines being administered, it's just so disappointing that it has been so slow in comparison to UK. Can't believe the lack of urgency shown by the people we have to look up to here.

I'm just surprised how well people buy in to the UK propaganda - it doesn't particularly matter what they're doing with their vaccinations. We'll get ours done at our speed, which will be pretty fast once there's enough vaccines available.

Anyone want to bet that most of Europe will be done (roughly) at the same time?

Judging by your less than a 100k comment, it seems you are judging Irish numbers by people who have had both doses. Any reason you aren't judging the UK numbers by the same metric?

Broadly. If current vaccination rates continue, Ireland will actually be done before the likes of Germany and France.

And you know what other graph we're behind the UK on? Deaths.

All these people banging on about how great the Brits are doing with the vaccines all seem to have forgotten what a shit show they presided over for the previous 12 months.

Oh come on. Do you really think if Ireland had a 2.5 times bigger land area and 14 times bigger population everything would of gone far better. Might not of gone worse granted.

Although it's a valid question by Paxton, the graph he tweeted is totally disingenuous.
It measures total doses, not percentage of population, completely ignoring the fact that the UK is many times bigger than Ireland.

    Meanwhile here's Jeremy PaxMAN (thanks lbj666 :))

You are right, sorry about that. Not intended.

How far he's fallen since his peak

Paxton and Paxman are different people.

And I think this was his peak

What's with all the pointless UK vaccination comparisons? The annoying thing is people are so absorbed in British media in this country that the average John & Mary from Ballinasloe will think it's all the Irish government's fault for the EU being so constrained with supply.

I can't thank this post enough. Who gives a flying fcuk what the UK are doing ? Might as well compare with the Ivory Coast for all the relevance it has.

TBF it will deliver data for mass vaccinations with AZ, otherwise it's just a country adopting a particular vaccination approach.

That is irrelevant to a vaccine discussion though. The UK is doing better than Ireland on vaccine rollouts, that is a fact. Why do people have to try and argue it?

We know why they're doing better and its largely out of our control, but that doesn't mean we have to downplay their success.

The gap is definitely going to be bigger than 3 or 4 weeks too

What nonsense. We share an Island with them, its massively relevant.

We had months and months of UK comparisons when the UK and England in particular was being hit hard, we had opinion pieces where the way the UK was going solo rather than part of the EU plan was going to end in disaster for their vaccination program, we had an intense focus on how northern Ireland was doing particularly when the government was trying to divert attention away from itself down here.

Good recent enough example is M.Martin saying Northern Ireland wasn't sequencing to detect variants which was a blatant lie but fitted the partner of diverting attention to focus on failures elsewhere.

So of course after all this there is going to be a focus on the UK vaccination effort or is it only ok to pay attention when it makes FF/FG look good.

So far, our vaccination efforts - the parts we have control over - do make us look pretty good.

What reason is there for Seven Oaks to come out and say this publicly? Contact the person you were dealing with in the HSE and sort it out ffs.

Free publicity (and a little faux outrage) I would say.

Ohh I agree, its just that it seems like every second post on what was a very informative thread has become UK this, UK that, bla, bla. Its apples and oranges on a host of levels.

Nah, it's really evidence that the new untried system is botched, a disaster, not fit for purpose etc.!

I very much doubt anyone in any country will forget the previous 12 months or for that matter the next 12 months.

The death rate in the UK is appalling so to in France Italy and Spain.

Lets not let our government point fingers at other countries death rates being higher to justify our own death rates.
Most countries have failed its citizens and we need to know why the poorest have suffered the most.

At least by the responses here everyone is happy with the laid back ,chilled approach of the country. There's no rush really I guess, if we get the vaccine before we get the virus, sure that'll be grand!
You clearly haven't read any of the responses

Sitting outside my 90yr old grandmother’s GP waiting for her to come out after her vaccine. There is an absolute slew of elderly people coming in and out. It’s actually making me really tearful.

Unfortunately the Guards are also here, clearly to make sure no nutters turn up to protest/cause disruption. (Not unfortunate that they are here obviously, just that it’s necessary!)
