    In fact, some countries never had to close at all to any significant degree. Apart from limited public groups, wearing masks, and bars closed - that's it. Life remains the same. People can still go to restaurants that act as bars to some degree. Hairdressers never closed etc.

    Imagine anything close to that in Ireland? Not a chance.

    Not as long as Moany Hologram, Ronan Glum, and Professor Bore-an, are in charge.

    Yup, I'm pretty ok with not reopening hospitality as a significant chunk of the population can't be trusted, but you can easily reopen hairdressers, gyms, non essential retail etc when we're under 4-500 cases and for things to not get out of control assuming masks/capacity restrictions are enforced. It'll get a lot of people back to work and make life more bearable for the rest of us at least.

    RTE are saying that over 50& of people coming into the country are returning holiday makers! Crazy, who would go abroad at this time. Will they quarantine now?

    That could be 50% of 2. Without figures percentages mean nothing tbh. Are quarantine hotels in operation here yet?

    Was just watching the latest figures on the 9 o'clock news, and see the positivity rate is just over 5%.
    So for every 100 folk that feel bad, and their gp recommends they get tested, only 5 are positive.

    So what is wrong with the other 95? Never seen this question asked anywhere on tv or radio debates.

    Is there any proof that hairdressers increase the spread of covid by a lot? Hell, for a male, you're barely in their 15 minutes and wearing a mask at the same time.

    The one I go to has a max of 4 people in at a time (and it's a good size place), windows or door open, masks on and the actual haircut takes about 10-15 mins at most. I'm more in danger if I head to Tesco imo.

    Where is open? Schools shut. Construction shut, cafes shut, pubs shut, retail shut, restaurants shut.

    My SIL of 30 years without fail due to childhood asthma gets a bad chest infection every year about this time. Same prescription meds everytime. This year her GP refused to give her a prescription without her getting a Covid test first. Her result was negative but she got her prescription and 10 days off work paid.
    I'm sure there is many other examples along with routine testing in certain settings.

    Are you suggesting what we have here in Ireland is barely level 3. No social outlets open at all.
    Meanwhile.... a glimpse of what most of Europe will experience in the coming months. We of course will still be concerned.

    People getting admitted to hospital also get tested. There's cohort testing in hospitals too and serial testing in residential care settings. Close contacts now being tested again routinely.

    They've stopped issuing any new passports or renewals until travel restrictions have been lifted and we move to Level 4.

    Of course we will and that's simply because our population cannot be trusted to not act like bullocks let out of the shed after winter. Remember what happened for the few weeks around our meaningful Christmas?
