    Of course they are not.

    Look up.

Imagine the uproar if we didn’t? This forum would be full of people saying the teacher isn’t doing any work. I use ideas that have worked for friends of mine but have to alter the majority of it to suit my gang.

This thread has entered the twilight zone at this point!

Are some teachers now trying to claim that the government closed the schools!!! As opposed to the teachers unions??

Yup I am anyways as I have to tailor it to suit my students so I make my own worksheets and instructions. I also source videos to help explain the topic and methodology as I would do in school. This adds hours onto an already too long day and takes time away from my kids education and family time.

All of which is far more stressful than teaching face to face...I know, I was on that treadmill last summer. Now that my school just does live lessons I actually find the whole thing far less stressful and workload is halved, if not more. But - as I've said on here before - that only works for a very small group of schools.

Teachers are trying their best. Really, they are.

Even the language used by some posters is quite telling, "We", "We all" "Us all" just goes to demonstrate the hive mind mentality.

Why do some posters refer to themselves collectively as we?

I don't envy you if that's the culture you're faced with in the workplace.

I didn't see you posting this when other posters came on to derail the thread painting teachers with the same brush and claiming to speak for all parents.

    Why is that?

So you are not collaborating with any colleagues? Or talking to other teachers? Or friends? Or taking part in online discussion forums with other teachers? Or getting any other help from the school?

    May I ask why?

This sounds like a very bad approach.

I would be very interested to hear what the (usually very vocal) teachers on this thread think of this?

Teachers, is this acceptable? Should this teacher be sanctioned in any way?

Is THIS your big question? What do I think of this teachers work effort? If it's true, I think it's not ideal, I think the class would prefer more contact, I think it's not typical, I think that it sounds like something happened, maybe a bereavement/breakdown/struggle with family duties/etc etc.

I also think that it's true that there should be minimum standards across schools, and the DES haven't done that.

Not only do I create my own content, I have to edit and redesign it in some way every year. Not by much, the bulk of the work would be done first time around, but - as cliché as it sounds - no two classes are alike so a one-size-fits-all, while you could get away with it, will not get you the most out of your students

Well, Poster T complains ad nauseum that teachers don't teach over lockdown.
Poster T then admits they didn't teach last lockdown either.

I don't know, would you by any stretch of the imagination call that hypocritical?

    Who is "poster T"?

You'll have to stop talking in riddles and be a bit braver than that.

I must have been dreaming MM’s speech in which he said schools are closed. Yes unions had an issue with the reopening plan (we all know why) but if we were told we have to go on Monday then we’d be in.
Also again I see you say that your question wasn’t answered earlier in the thread and I have directed you to where it has been.

Are you seriously claiming that it was not the teachers unions that closed the schools? Really?

If so, I think you should think about how this might alienate the non-teachers reading this thread.

Government has the power to tell schools to reopen. You'd have to wonder what information they are privy to that they have totally rowed back on the language in relation to schools and insistence that for instance the traditional leaving certificate would take place. You have to look at what they aren't saying.

Yep. I was at my kitchen table at 7:30 this morning.

It has to be tailored to how they are taking it on board, how quickly they are progressing with new concepts and where we need to take a step back inorder to take two steps forward.

For instance the likes of shape in space might be given a week in the scheme. It doesn't need that much time so I tailor it so that I can gain extra time that can be allocated to something that requires it.

So hundreds of teachers all over the country are creating video explaining the same concepts and covering the same curriculum. Absolutely bonkers. Ye might as well write yer own individual textbooks while ye are at it.

Horrible duplication of work. Very little reuse value if tailored as much as you say. What a waste of time.

Would you be better off doing it live in that case? At least that way it's interactive.

Totally bonkers we did ask DES for central body these could be dowloaded from but they declined to follow that up

What, that you did SFA for the last lockdown, and are now here day in day out banging the same drum about lazy teachers that didn't perform?

If so, I think you should think about how this might alienate the non-teachers reading this thread.

It probably won't alienate them as much as a teacher who openly admits to abdicating their responsibility to teach their students, while blaming others for their wholly unprofessional attitude.

Unions don’t have the power to close schools. The government did that.

Are you? What are you doing? What have you learned to do this year that you didn't do last year? You said you aren't getting any support from your own school now you confront someone else on whether they are? The aggressiveness continues. Can't see what your line of attack has to do with schools reopening.

I haven't been on this thread in about 2 weeks as I've been too busy working.

And yes, I'm brave enough to say it straight as opposed to indirectly insulting someone via some sort of "cryptic crossword".

    It is really very simple.

    The Government closed the schools.

The Union objected to a reopening in specific circumstances. And there's a lot more to it than that but of course you know that already.
