My teenager had their first online class this week and out or 27 students in their class, 7 logged in. You are saying teachers aren't bothered doing their job, that works both ways, the students have to try to engage as well ,or else why would the teachers bother!

No pointing out the obvious allowed in here. Just remember it's all the lazy teachers fault.

Let you do the compare and contrast, if I'm wrong and they're no way similar..... I've no problem admitting it:)

Well pointing out the obvious shouldn't need to be done. Do a little reading.

I agree with this to an extent. Depends on the age bracket tbh. I have students that aren’t engaging very well with online learning and seem to be struggling a bit whereas in a regular school setting they’d be fine.

It just requires a certain level of motivation and independence when it comes to learning that unfortunately some haven’t developed in early pp school years. Parents obviously play a big role too.

I guess I am just worried as Dr Holohan said to expect them to rise again

Ah now, don't be the bearer of good news, you might cause panic!

The numbers are good and improving every day, positivity rate now down to 7.7% cases and hospitalisations are dropping like a stone thankfully. ICU numbers have slowed, unfortunately they'll take the longest to level off again.

    But all good overall.

    Yeah that's fair enough

It's more that the pace of decrease will slow rather than cases increasing as such

They will definitely rise a bit now that they are going to start testing close contacts again, hopeful only for a short bit before they keep falling

Not by much, you'll find a lot of close contacts are either isolating, finished isolating or managed to get themselves tested anyway.

Bar the few who won't follow guidance, but even a positive test wouldn't change those attitiudes.

A time frame i heard floated yesterday was special schools back after midterm and them maybe all primary back the following week so would be the 1st of March. No idea if that will happen but that was what was mentioned at my union branch meeting.

I can’t see that happening now when ecce is suspended until March 5th.

Really? You seem to have knowledge even the government don't have. Remarkable that you share it here on an internet forum rather than with people in far more powerful positions.

Sure the special schools and classes still haven't been officially told that they aren't reopening last Thursday!!!!!

Some one from one of the hospitals, UHL I think, said that the figures don’t tell the full story. When they say X number in hospital with the disease, they don’t include those still in hospital and requiring ongoing treatment but who are now testing negative for COVID. These are people who may be in hospital for weeks to come.

Yes. I have not been contacted by my son's school yet.
I would like an e mail that says :
"The 1 February re-opening of our school has been postponed indefinitely".
Is clear communication from schools not possible ?

It is not the schools, it is the DES you mean. They make the official announcements

It would be nice if they shared it before the end of the school week when in theory we are due back next week !
