That's really unfair. Parents have no say whatsoever in any pay or funding allocated. They're doing their best dealing with a myriad of issues at the moment. Who could ever have expected to be homeschooling and keeping a roof over their children's heads when family planning? With no support or understanding whatsoever from employers or government I might add.

Tough. They should have thought about that before having their kids. They knew having kids would be an effort. Why have them if you're not able?

Yeah so it's a bit of extra work. Everyone is having to do a little bit more or do things a bit differently at the moment and they just have to get on with it. If parents can't or are not willing to do that then maybe their kids can be taken off them and someone who is able or willing to do that can do it for them

*Discalimer for anyone who doesn't do sarcasm or irony: please try to see what I am doing here. It kills me to write that, it really does

And if parents aren't willing to do it we should stop all their Child Benefit too, that'll change their tune!!1!

...no, before someone jumps on me, I'm not being serious with that either.

You beat me to it Bananaleaf. My first thought after reading Lillyfae's post was to swap parent for teacher. What's the reason for the difference in perspectives and lack of kindness towards teachers so often posted here? Jealousy and resentment of the intellectual accomplishment and holidays, imo.

I'm not a teacher so gtfoh with your "ilk" comment. Something to be said here for reading comprehension as I've said this many times before. Which really proves my jealousy point.

And I'm not watching your no doubt ridiculous link which has nothing to do with the thread.

Mix it up a bit Billy, you threw that line out yesterday.

Weekly testing in special schools in Northern Ireland has just been announced. It's a saliva based test.

I could teach you, but I'll have to charge

(But I'll have to do it over zoom of course, unless you are happy to have me in your home, in which case I will don the PPE and be there in a few mins, but only if you swear to say nothing to Newstalk and if anyone asks, I'm in your bubble, okay?)

An unemployment payment to people working from home? Is this across every sector or just the sectors that you don’t like?
I hope we’re all back in school after midterm too. Now if we are all brought back to work after midterm and when everyone shows up will you be on here apologising for insinuating that teachers don’t care about their pupils education?

Why should I apologise when some don't? Not all teachers are working, sending a video once or twice a week is not what I'd call work!
Now that contact tracing is starting back up tomorrow teachers should be back. No more excuses.

Paddy, did a teacher take a chocolate bar from you when you were in school or something? I sense a distinct rage towards our profession.

    To paddyirish23

My teenager had their first online class this week and out or 27 students in their class, 7 logged in. You are saying teachers aren't bothered doing their job, that works both ways, the students have to try to engage as well ,or else why would the teachers bother!

Funny how what we said at the start of January is slowly coming into focus. Lots of us predicted after midterm as the earliest possible timeframe. Hopefully some might be able to return after midterm with the phased return which the government have been touting happening after that. Funny how things work out.

Let you do the compare and contrast, if I'm wrong and they're no way similar..... I've no problem admitting it:)
