Nah just an awful awful comparison

Schools and childrens education was deemed a societal priority which was why so much effort was made getting children back to school and also why schools remained open during level 5

Pubs were not a societal priority

Pubs in Dublin did not open since March, the majority of wet pubs only got a month since March and at no stage were any pubs/restaurants open when in level 5

Look you completely missed the point about the pubs. The statement quoted was just vague waffle. You could plug pubs, non essential retail, building sites into the meaningless statement and it would be true because of it vagueness.

I have no problem with the societal priority angle, but let's call it out as the reason we are opening schools early and not because "schools are safe".

What are peoples opinions on schools taking days off for inservice etc?

3 local schools off next friday, just think its slightly cheeky.

Inservice still needs to go ahead - staff will be working all day just not supporting kids.

ETA - Friday is a good day for children as a weeks work done rather than breaking the week and trying to get children started again.

I thought all the PDST staff were redeployed to help with the war effort?

Now hang on - it was an interesting play on the situation for one, but for two, pubs were and are important to communities. I'm not a pub person myself but for generations our entire way of life and celebrations and socialising happens in the pubs. Fundraising in and support from local pubs was important to locals. Was just thinking the other day even how much I miss the craic and meeting up with friends the odd time, or nipping in before a wedding, etc. There's a lot of depression and worse now because - in some cases-people's only source of socialising is closed. It's very sad. Just wanted to say that. We're all going through tough times some of us for different reasons so lets remember that.

We had in on the Monday we were due to start teaching online. It was murder. Trying to get our head around online classes while being taught buzz words and put in breakout rooms. Nightmare

And the ‘oh that’s a wonderful idea’. I swear they half the time they have nothing prepared for the first inservice sand just use the ideas from the first one for the rest of it. Swapping them for new ones when they get bored. Honestly everyone ends up saying the same things. I was so not in the mood for it

LoL - every table after the unlucky feckers who go first steals that line. Even though there's always one eager beaver table TG. I need copious amounts of coffee to cope. ;)

Make this man the minister, when she comes on at the end to say she has certainly picked a side, just not one that cares for the safety of families and staff

I'm delighted she picked a side, I await with baited breath for SNA allocation of 1:1, proper NEPS support with yearly multi disciplinary reviews, proper OT physio SLT and CAMHS access for children. I look forward to the reversal of cut in numers to SNAs and learning support.resource budgets.

Though I think I will be waiting

Gimme a day of teaching over a day of in-service any day of the week! They're not off on a jolly.

Ah but do you not love having to create a shared poster on a piece of flipchart paper? And then think pair share about your learnings and maybe diamond rank some paper scraps.

    So. Much. Fun.

That’s what boils my blood - cheap words for a cheap shot - pity gov weren’t on vulnerable students side all down through the years.

    It’s not the schools choice
    It’s the JCT/Dept of Education
    But yes

what about the first 30mins of EVERY SINGLE ONE that is wasted when we're brainstorming how we are going to make good communicators out of ourselves for the day.

You know what would go a long way towards everything - Norma and Josepha stepping aside for the good of the country and letting Aodhan in to start from scratch.

Everybody would start anew and build towards something realistic. At the moment you have an entrenched DES who have managed to alienate absolutely everyone.

Bunch of us left one year, they were using a meta-analysis they had clearly never read in a powerpoint they clearly hadn't made. I had read the paper so I asked a bunch of relatively basic questions about why they were drawing conclusions the author had cautioned against drawing. It was great craic, they then got very hot and bothered, became very defensive and were unbelievable rude and dismissive to another member of staff.....so we left! I'd actually question if you are available for work in the building and doing any useful work you'd have a good shot at it being impossible to actually do anything to you.

Some of the subject specific ones can be very good, depends on the subject and the person but you get the odd really brilliant one. I can think of one series that was so practical and routed in teaching that in an hour at it than I learned in a decade of other "active leaning" inservices

Running them at the moment is sheer madness though, the kids would still need emails answered about work, passwords reset etc
