Christ Almighty who is this little puppy put onto Prime Time to represent teachers and their views. The presenter is absolutely atrocious and he’s walking all over him.

Jesus, Miriam o Callaghan needs to step away from the Kool-Aid.

Absolutely raving about not paying teachers.

Has your one from the Parent’s Council surveyed every parent about how they are finding online learning?!?

Our school is getting great feedback about how it’s going.

As an aside, not one parent was going to send their child back yesterday in our school.

    What about their voice?

A part of me dies when I see an A3 page, post-it's and highlighters

Must print a t-shirt "I think all the other tables covered what we discussed"

Haha love it! Couldnt put it into better words!!!!

What in gods name is wrong with her? This is not helping. What an inflammatory comment to make. In the journal

She is dead right to be honest.

Who is batting for the special needs kids? They don't have their own Unions, so someone has to put their case forward.

Think the presenter posts here :)

He went straight to "who do you think you are?" and the PUP argument. Pretty poor fare.

The union fella was a scene from The King's Speech tho, chronic

Obviously you didn’t read the part of my post where I said our school was getting great feedback.

Agree with all of this. It amazes me how educated folks cannot get their heads around it. It’s up to NPHET to balance the risks and made the decisions. Teachers unions etc should accept their advice.

Agree, I still do not understand why INTO schools are open in Newry but closed in Dundalk.

I heard vague general stuff about contact tracing and testing, but nothing specific about making the classroom safer.

The teachers, snas and parents gave been fighting together for years, no one else was all that interested before now. Have you gone door to door or campaigned for more resources for kids with additional needs, when someone calls to your door to ask for your vote maybe ask them about provisions, I always do, any evening or weekends spent rewriting applications so kids can get access to equipment they need, begging people to come in in June to scribe, making extra resources so students can access the curriculum.........

Nope, but my principal did and that’s what he told me.

Spoke to a few parents of children in my own class over the last fortnight, also.

Nice attempt at being clever, by the way.

As a matter of course the principal would have called every parent, they weren't just going to guess how many might turn up today had it gone ahead

Incidentally, the DES never formally informed schools that todays partial reopening was abandoned,

Ah Marko bud, you used to be much better at this. You don't think contact tracing and testing will make the classroom safer?

Are we talking about in general for the entire population or extra contract tracing and testing just for teachers, because there is a key difference there.

and we could do with a few

Clearly either or both would make the classroom safer but surely you knew that already.

Everyone here has been clear they mean normal contact tracing and they are happy to go back to work with the same conditions in the community and school as before Christmas. I'd bite my hand off for my conditions in November, the work load is brutal at the moment

Incidentally 20% of one of my senior classes are positive and another class is going that way. Thankfully asymptomatic so working away and on live classes today laughing about having to pick their dinners up form outside the door. Asking for more work some of them as they've seen everything on netflix. There is no way some of those kids wouldn't have passed it on, given several of them are on teams and I know they are still playing in the park after school (when there is an after school) Most won't be tested but given the level of contact, including sleeping over in the same room, you'd imagine the numbers are even higher.

I work part time and we have fights and rows over home schooling, sometimes I do the kids work to get it uploaded so that we can all get out for a walk and a bit of a break, I really feel my freedom is curtailed, normally when not working I would be going for a walk, doing my housework at leisure etc. Having said all that, I actually dont mind it too much if everybody is kept safe, the amount of parents chatting at the gate before lockdown was insane. I just cant understand who are these parents who are in this mad rush when numbers are so high to get their precious children back to school. There is no way I would be on that parents council, sounds like a loony lot trying to get children back when there is bad strain on the loose. I can understand special needs being tough but dont say all on learning is not going well, most people i talk to say this time it is going very well. Why cant parents just chill, we will get through this, your children wont be going up the aisle damaged from a couple of months. My dad was taken out of school to pick potatoes, do loads of jobs, snow etc, he had great handwriting, was sound as a pound, the way some parents go on, janey mac i would hate to think how they would survive in a war situation with bombs falling on them.

I think everyone would like that testing and contract tracing be better but you don't see Gardai or Nurses walking off the line because of it.

I just see it as a convenient excuse tbh.
NEPHT advice was quite explicit when it comes to the school, yet the Unions decided to ignore it. That is the fact of the matter.

Youre having a mare tonight on this one. You asked what measures they have up the North that allow them to open. They have testing, tracing, proper ppe and severely reduced numbers.

You were told that we have no testing,no tracing, no extra ppe or further measures, you would have 20,000 people plus moving around while at the same time actually neglecting even more at home online because teachers and SNAs can't be in the same place...

But you didn't like that answer so now you're saying "but but but nurses... Sniffle... And Gardai..."

Try the mandatory quarantine border line again. These are measures staff and for students like, a lot of them would have additional health needs!

Can you please link to the explicit NEPHT advice on reopening the schools in the manner suggested by the minister?

Haha I happen to log in three times today and everytime you've brought up the same laboured point after people take time from their day to explain it to you. I'm not bothered looking through posts I've missed. You must be awful bored to keep bringing the same point up over and over.

    Appreciate the honesty marko.

    Point made, again

we receive no contact from any teacher bar through seesaw.
i have worked completely through all lockdowns and i work hard like many people do.
my wife stays at home full time, has last 8 years, and we have 2 young uns under 4.
    and 2 in primary school.

i have discussed this with my wife and we both agree teachers have the right to close schools. i dont like it but thats me being selfish.
but we also agreed we are not going to interact in any way with the teachers while schools are closed. no see saw no zoom etc etc
its liberating and the 2 teachers in question have never contacted us to ask about it.

I'm just curious as to why you don't want to interact with teachers while the school is closed?
