Look they are a bit scuppered at the moment. Some anon minister during 1pm news during week gave a figure of 2500 cases before schools would close. I dont think they thought the public would ever find out that the case record maxes out around the 1500 -2000 numbers, so now they need a new plan.

Schools just should go online for next few weeks.

Maybe consider injecting 5th and 6th years and their teachers with vaccine so they can go ahead with face to face classes and leaving cert and put rest online.

Any chance of dropping the conspiracy stuff?
    It really adds nothing

I feel a lot of companies are saying this - but fast forward 5 years and the same work model will not exist.

Alternatively companies may let you work from home and pay you less.

I think they will. Might not be every role but I can see the blended working happening for lots of roles across lot of companies. It'll save money for companies so can't see why they wouldn't encourage it where possible.

I've now heard of 3 seperate positive cases in people I know in the last 24hrs.

I think the numbers are at least double per day of what's being reported.

It's more than that if you look at the swab numbers

Well they are closed anyway until 11 Jan. I would not be surprised if extended but that call will not be made until Next week.

Is this a typo then? It's all getting very out of hand if RTE are not even getting the right numbers

Testing down ~5k also, you could argue if they done the same number of tests, we have the same number of swabs. Same is better than more, but with the positivity rate so high, it's extremely hard to draw any definitive conclusion.
The ballsbridge test centre was quiet today, basically walked straight through with no waiting, car park is setup to handle more (though everyone is given a time slot so it shouldn't ever get crazy)

More cases in Cork than Dublin - that’s not good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,753 ✭✭✭SleetAndSnow

Cork most cases in the country for the first time I think?

More concerned about Donegal, massive number for their population.

Dublin figures are strange being so low (relatively)

    Donegal is pretty fcuked

How does one get an age demographic breakdown of the cases?

Be good to know how many of these cases are school going age.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,474 ✭✭✭✭GreeBo

not testing close contacts will do that

I'd have expected a much bigger drop, also expecting positivity to significantly rise (50+) since only symptomatic people are getting tests.

The truth is most if the older, frailer ones have been locked up since March and carers with them. Day services are gone, which would be the main port for socialisation, and it was simply too unsafe to consider going for a meal or anything like that. Now it's so much worse when they can't have callers to the house. Its incredibly tough on thousands of people. That a significant cohort want to extend that misery and leave very vulnerable people alone with completely overwhelmed and unsupported carers in favour of being able to socialise says a great deal about them.

I haven't heard anyone suggest leaving older people alone. The fact is the vast number of people who die from Covid are older people. Advocating that all people are treated the same, therefore we should all be locked down together or not at all, may give some people a warm glow inside, but ultimately it leads to unnecessary deaths. We know who needs to be protected.

I understood 2500 was the trigger
