Got their dates alright but you can't vaccinate a nursing home with an active outbreak.

Can a positive case not be vaccinated :o need to be completely free of it or never have had it, difficult with false results

No point in vaccinating someone who's positive while they have it. Pointless

Testing down ~5k also, you could argue if they done the same number of tests, we have the same number of swabs. Same is better than more, but with the positivity rate so high, it's extremely hard to draw any definitive conclusion.

    Signs of stabilisation, possibly, hopefully!

    yesterday

    tests 26 866
    positives 5573
    rate 20.7%

    today

    tests 20586
    positives 4502
    rate 21.87

That's too much positivity for new year

We need to know how many are "todays" and how many are historical, can't believe they are lumping historical and live cases together after the German labs debacle from last year.
Why? At which point do you think people should start being more cautious?
And "historical" will be a few days old, not months like we had previously.

Positivity about 1% higher then yesterday, id be very concerned if it got higher then 23% tbh... not that I am not concerned now but! Stabilising in the 20%'s isn't what we want, hopefully it will drop soon, and quickly at that!

What percentage of swabs turn into cases generally or do we know?

Gav Reilley and Richard Chambers had threads on this, generally the swab numbers give or take 10%. So todays figures would = around 4200 cases. Most will go into the backlog though.

Yes, of course, but it needs to stabilise first, then fall.

If as Nolan says they announce circa 3000 cases today then the backlog becomes even worse at over 10k.

Most of our current backlog is from another year, 2020. I would consider 2020 to be history.

    Well, f*ck.

You might need a few more expletives when you hear the swab numbers for the last few days and the size of the back log brewing.

Just to clarify, you mean three days ago?

In that 3k figure, will they differentiate between backlog cases and new cases?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,139 ✭✭✭What Username Guidelines

not testing close contacts will do that

Still worrying they’re finding 21k people to test without testing contacts.

No idea. Not sure it really matters. Can't be too difficult of a calculation to get a rough idea. People get hung up about this stuff for some reason.

Highest number of Covid-19 hospital admissions recorded in the last 24 hours.
THERE ARE NOW 581 patients with Covid-19 being treated in hospital, with an extra 73 people being admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours.

This is the highest level of Covid-19 hospital admissions recorded in Ireland, with the number of patients in hospital at the highest level since 11 May.

    https://www.thejournal.ie/covid-19-hospital-5314532-Jan2021/

“The most concerning trend at present is the rapidly increasing number of people being admitted to hospital – we are now admitting between 50 – 70 people a day to our hospital system. Unfortunately, we expect this to get worse before it gets better. Our health system will not continue to cope with this level of impact.” Tony

Not far off 0.1% of the UK tested positive today. If we had really case numbers we’re about the same I guess.

No, I mean last year. There were 366 days in 2020, each of them is now historical as they are part of a previous year not a current one. :)
