So anyone buying new this year or know anyone buying new. The old fellow is getting another new car prob be his last one. Just another Sportage. I know I sound boring but if I knew I might tried to convince him to buy a new Tucson as its look have really grown on me and the Sportage is old at this stage but it's just handy for him as the Kia dealer is local. The current one he has is nice if a bit boring inside but the beige does brighten it up a bit. Be sad to see it go. We barely knew her at least I barely did.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Why a Sportage? Did you look at the new Tucson as well?

All I know is that there's a Ford Focus somewhere in Laois about to be dropped off and I for one cannot wait to hear about it!

Waiting with anticipation for the annual Laois Focus Thread.
    What colour?
    What Reg.
    First photo...
    Etc.
It's the boards motors version of Jools Holland Hootenanny, always signals the start of a new year.

What is going to happen with the new cars? Are the motor dealers closed until February? (Hubby has a new Rav ordered).

For people looking at ICE? Are you not worried that they are outdated are will suffer from poor resale value ?

No I’m wary about the technology in this first round electric cars being replaced very quickly by units with longer range etc so I’ve stuck with ICE I change every 2yrs so I’ll reassess again in 2023.

So you will be blocking people's views at double junctions either left or right and making it impossible for people to have a view of the road they're pulling of out into in carparks for years to come. Thanks dude :pac:;)

Everything has poor resale even before EVs were a thing. 100% to about 10% in 10 years no matter what you buy.

It will be business as usual for dealers

I was just asking him a question just wondering that's all. The Sportage is a good car and very reliable and of course if he intends to keep it for 6 or 7 years it has the long warranty to incase anything were to go wrong. There is advantages to buying a well proven car one that has been out a while like the fact they are reliable so it's a good choice and off course the new Hyundai Tucson had not been proven yet it could be a disaster but been a Hyundai it should be reliable.

I have a new car ordered myself. I thought dealers are only allowed to open for servicing and repairs under Level 5?

Maybe from the outside but dealers will not stop selling cars

I read in the paper that dealers are allowed do delivery of cars already bought/ordered and to continue contactless selling as before.
I think in reality dealers were working as almost normal in the last level 5. They were on the phone more and meeting people by appointment. Who’s to say if you were going to the service or sales department?
I know of a couple of people that purchased and traded in last lockdown.

Yes I do a lot of distance driving in normal times! Assuming we get back to normal over the next three years it still seems to be the best option.

Yeah, Im in Donegal , bought in Dublin. Not sure I could explain that trip as essential though.

Maybe it will be dropped at the house, but Im sure they will want to view my old car.

I bought it by phone and email, no dealer visit in last Level 5 or whatever it was called in October. So be interesting to see what happens next.
