I have been following jim throughout this pandemic. He's got literally nothing right. I wouldnt trust him to run a bath let alone anything in goverment.

Ol Jim isn't ever right about anything. Not much more than a voice for developers.

Oh I sure I’m not the only one but I can really do without politicians tweeting messages of apparent understanding. I’ve seen a few from across a few parties and they need to read the room ffs. It’d be more in their line to do what they should have done in March and April and may.

My housemate told me earlier today he's having 2 mates over to the house tomorrow for nye. When I mentioned to him about the new rules (oh sorry, *guidelines*), he said "well we have it planned already and there are new guidelines every day..."

Meanwhile my fiance and I decided it best to cancel the quiet few drinks and a movie we had planned at his place (he lives with his parents) to ring in our first new year since we got engaged.

Grand scheme of things it's just a night, but still, fcuk Covid.:(

Could you not ring it in in your place with him? That would be reasonable (except maybe to a few on here :) )

    I've no doubt.

But I'm not sure why the weather was referenced. A coat will do grand for the cold.

Not much use against the virus though.

They're not breaking the law, so let them at it.

They are liars, though. They promised after the bird flu outbreak wet markets would be closed. Where do you think this pandemic started.

The main symptoms are different, temperature, cough, difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell

Not sure a runny nose would get you a test now if you don't have one of the others
Be careful! 4 out of 6 hère tested positive - 2 had runny noses, 1 had minor sniffles , one had a very bad sore throat. None had temperature or cough!! I think it’s a huge problem that many of us can be fooled with, “it’s a cold; it couldn’t be Covid”!

So no proof just hearsay. Thanks for clearing that up.

My friend got a notification from the app to say she was a close contact. She rang up to get a test and really struggled to get anywhere. So she rang back and lied about having symptoms, finally got the test and it came back positive!

Why is it so hard to actually get a test in the South? All my friends in the North just book it online no questions asked and they have it the next day. Whereas it seems to be so complicated here in the South just to secure one. Like I understand capacity issues but this was even the case back in August when I tried to get a test last time.

Strange. Please report your experience to the right people. It should be known.

I know we talk a lot about statistics on here a lot. The problem with really big numbers is there are some seriously horrific outcomes for some people. AKA statistics.

Not with 2+ households mixing in the house (one of the other lads will probably be bringing his girlfriend over too), just not worth the risk :(:(

Just calling people liars isn't an argument. With the measures they took its highly probable they stopped uncontrollable spread as many Western nations have failed to do.

Perhaps the advice on symptoms should be updated?

Even a senior medic here came out and said children with runny nose is not an issue back in August

The HSE site lists runny nose as a sometimes symptom too
The president of the Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP), Dr Mary Favier has said that parents need to seek out reliable information and avoid rumours and guess work when their children return to school.

Sniffles and runny noses are common place during the winter and are not a cause for concern Dr Favier told RTÉ radio’s Morning Ireland.

However, if children have a cough or a temperature they should be kept at home and if their symptoms persist for 48 hours their GP should be consulted.

Thanks. Covid really makes housesharing even more unbearable and I didn't even think that were possible.

Fingers crossed for a mortgage approval and new house for the hubby to be soon*!

    *in relative covid terms.

And if they catch and spread covid which leads to further spreading and hospital admissions which leads to no beds for a genuine heart attack or car crash victim, are you ok with that?
    Still leave them at it?

He was absolutely right that night. If there was an issue, it was with NPHET who moved from recommending Level 2 to Level 5 within 3 days.

NPHET didn't even recommend level three on a Thursday and then pushed the nuclear button of level five on a Sunday mysteriously after Tony got back to work

The government was right to try level three first as NPHET don't have to consider societal and economic consequences of their recommendations

Both over 65 and his mum's chest isn't amazing.

What you had prior to Christmas with a few bits extra , schools off until the 11th so far. You can still make compassionate visits, visit a grave etc

Really, so a pretend Level 5 . Everyone ignoring the rules, 90% of non essential retailers open as normal. Great
    MeHole is some man .

Really? Which part did you think was right? Also Is 4 weeks enough this time around given they weren't so convinced last time around.
Varadkar said: "The problem we had with the proposal that was we didn't feel it had been thought through properly.

"For example we asked for some comfort that four weeks might be enough, given that it hasn't been enough in Melbourne, it doesn't appear to be enough in Israel.

"They weren't able to give us that comfort.

"We also asked them what would happen after the four weeks if it didn't work, would we abandon that strategy or would we proceed regardless.

"They said they hadn't contemplated that.
