It was a false choice and a bad gamble.

Lives and livelihoods are not any better off now facing into another level 5 for at least another month. It's a bogus argument.

We'll pay a heavy price now, heavier than it had to be and, while, maybe, the government couldn't foresee everything, it shouldn't have gone out of its way to make the least desirous outcome the most likely.

A lot of said livelihoods wanted the opening in December in the full knowledge of potential restrictions in January. December was a more important month.

Their parents lack of control over the children, going around spreading covid, shouldn't be the problem of education staff.

    No it shouldn’t.

But given a choice between spreading more Covid through society becuse of parents irresponsibility or less because they are in school, which would you opt for?

I thought most of the covid symptoms were not like colds albeit they can be. But is it not a stretch to suggest that if you have a sniffle it's probably NOT a cold??

Is this the pretend level 5 , or the real level 5 we had in march.

Today just nails it home that we need vaccination and we need it so fast. This delay in the AZ one on the EU side is absolutely infuriating. It's obvious the vaccine is safe, but there is either a delay with AZ sending info to the EMA or the EMA are being ridiculously pedantic. There is NO excuse for either happening.

This post is complete nonsense. It's like you want to 'punish' the Government for allowing Christmas to go ahead in some shape or form. What did you want? Level 5 indefinitely? Gabriel Scally's suggestion of Christmas at the end of June?

The fact is, a new variant came from the U.K., which even NPHET in their own highly questionable over eager modelling forecasts didn't predict. Hence the unexpected increase in cases. We've no evidence as yet at all to suggest this variant is more dangerous, and plenty to suggest it isn't.

I can't get into a lot of this again. I've already tried to explain myself multiple times, but there are a few things here that are just wrong or totally exaggerated.

Do I think the government should have cancelled Christmas - No.
Did I want level 5 indefinitely - No, I've said this multiple times.
Gabriel Sally's suggestion - No, I never said that was a good idea.

Complete misinterpretation of many things myself and others have said.

    And moving on:
The jury is out about whether the growth is entirely explained by the new varient. It may play a part, it may not, the socialisation in December may have done plenty of the damage in and of itself.

Now, this final part amazes me:
We've no evidence as yet at all to suggest this variant is more dangerous, and plenty to suggest it isn't.

You do understand that if it is 70% more transmissible that is a huge problem in and of itself. Maybe it doesn't cause any worse symptoms in individuals, but if it's harder to contain and easier to spread that means that in real terms it is more dangerous because it can infect more people in a shorter time, which in turn leads to more hospitalisation, places the health system under more strain in less time etc, etc.

The main symptoms are different, temperature, cough, difficulty breathing, loss of taste or smell

Not sure a runny nose would get you a test now if you don't have one of the others

What you had prior to Christmas with a few bits extra , schools off until the 11th so far. You can still make compassionate visits, visit a grave etc

I apologise. I was going down a route there that I was regretting more and more by the minute.

I, like a lot of you I suspect, am having a bad day.

Yeah I think there’s a lot of frustration and despair today. I’m relieved our family seem to have gotten through Xmas safely. But the month ahead will be bleak enough.

By locking people into their homes!! Plus that 80,000 odd cases they have are a lot a lot higher then what they’re saying

Will Special Needs people have to tolerate restrictions that they don't understand ? What happened with these citizens in April was disgusting. I think as an emphatic country we are going downhill.

Just counted there and I've seen 23 people outside of work all year. Besides ten family members, three who i provide care assistance to, I've seen 13 of my friends socially, total. All outside.

In many urban municipal areas in The Philippines, there are zero cases.

Absolutely, although excess deaths not great for some unknown reason.

My friend got a notification from the app to say she was a close contact. She rang up to get a test and really struggled to get anywhere. So she rang back and lied about having symptoms, finally got the test and it came back positive!

Why is it so hard to actually get a test in the South? All my friends in the North just book it online no questions asked and they have it the next day. Whereas it seems to be so complicated here in the South just to secure one. Like I understand capacity issues but this was even the case back in August when I tried to get a test last time.

Even with no virus. Gathering with freezing temperatures seems v unwise. From attending college younger people are having lots of parties etc. At that age new social contacts is more important than anything to many
