Great, more restrictions on the responsible who have little left to give, while the irresponsible will carry on as normal and be "shocked" when they get Covid.

Any word about enforcement of these new rules?

    Not that's been made public.

In a better world, there'd be curfews overnight, and if you break curfew without a valid reason (I wish they'd stop using the word excuse), or get caught at a house party, the sanction that might get the attention of some would be to suspend their PUP payment.

Harsh maybe, but it needs something of that magnitude to get through the skulls of some people.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

I'd have to say they'd say it's because of their mental health and they need a break after a really hard December and Christmas?

I know they told us it's about personal responsibility but now we are in wave 3 there clearly isn't enough of it.

One person's definition of it is different from someone else's. Nobody did anything wrong on here yet cases are exploding and health system under threat.

We can't really do anything about wave 3 now but what could we change for wave 4 (provided we do the same thing again and expect a different outcome)

I apologise. I was going down a route there that I was regretting more and more by the minute.

I, like a lot of you I suspect, am having a bad day.

Appreciate that, just before you needed a bigger shovel.

There is no way you believe it's possible that we've had more cases than China.

Why not? Did you see how they handled the crisis.

Since the start of this shìt, word excuse is used by government, by people, by cops.. Never ending bs ah we can't do this and we can't do that, we can't enforce this and that..come on, it's been joke since the start.

Because they aren't supposed to be.

    Horrible selfish country.

We aren't at all but there is a sizeable minority that ruin it for everyone and I'll continue to point them out when I see them. The entitled set.

Why are you suggesting we target people on social welfare payments? Surely if you had a system like this then a fine for anyone caught would be the way to go. Do you have some belief that people on this payment are more disposed to this kind of carry on?

A lot of politician's who were very vocal about relaxing asap have been very quiet. Hopefully contemplating how they got it so wrong 3rd time around.

I don't get it - surely going to an empty beach is 100% safe and safer than going to the nearest essential shop. Why would you stop?

Cos you don't want the third wave to get you. ? :--)

Why not? The Chinese have handled this correctly.

The Chinese have recently sentenced a reporter to prison for publishing unapproved articles about the regime’s response to COVID. It’s laughable that some believe the CCCP and their handling of the virus. Wuhan population 11 million, yet only 4,000 cases and you believe the likes of that. Absolutely hilarious.

Yes I do believe it. I don't believe the whole Trump like anti China narrative. Have you any proof they are lying?

Even with no virus. Gathering with freezing temperatures seems v unwise. From attending college younger people are having lots of parties etc. At that age new social contacts is more important than anything to many

This just goes to show how wrapped in cotton wool some people are.

We all knew there would be a lockdown in January, that's why people had a few nights out when they had the chance in December. I don't get the big deal.

    there's a lot you don't get.

the big deal is we are probably a week or two away from where the UK is now - hospitals completely overloaded, hospitals picking and choosing who to treat. this affects all medical treatment by the way, not just covid. pray you don't get sick. cause you might not get treated.

My housemate told me earlier today he's having 2 mates over to the house tomorrow for nye. When I mentioned to him about the new rules (oh sorry, *guidelines*), he said "well we have it planned already and there are new guidelines every day..."

Meanwhile my fiance and I decided it best to cancel the quiet few drinks and a movie we had planned at his place (he lives with his parents) to ring in our first new year since we got engaged.

Grand scheme of things it's just a night, but still, fcuk Covid.:(

    I've no doubt.

But I'm not sure why the weather was referenced. A coat will do grand for the cold.

Not much use against the virus though.

I was a sole trader in Ireland for 11 years. I paid my bills and got nothing in return. Now, this is pay back time. I want everything ... PUP, rent, medical card, back to school allowance, free dental, free glasses and my Christmas "bonus".

Apart from closing schools it's virtually all present and correct, no?

No its not. Construction sites. Non essential retail list was changed alot in October. Nothing like March. Traffic on the road over the next few weeks will reflect that.

I think you live outside reality because our Government has managed to control the virus so well and you have no actual concept of what things would look like had that not happened. All the while mocking and disparaging the job they have done.

I don’t mock or disparage people, but last time I checked, this was a free country and people are allow to debate the merits of the restrictions, NPHET’s approach, the behaviour of our media and what sort of job Ireland is doing behind the media hype.
