    WTF are you talking about?

You are claiming someone is inventing a scenario.

I asked who is that person / persons?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 42,574 ✭✭✭✭Boggles

41% of total cases to the end of October occurred in October. Kids were not getting tested in the spring. So that number is in no way surprising.

Ah, it is a bit, to me at least.

The constant teeing up of arguments from multiple posters with comments like "it must be coming from doorbells" pushing the narrative that people are arguing that cases or outbreaks wont or cant happen in schools, which has not been suggested by anyone. These same individuals then claim that any evidence of a case in school completely disprove any suggestion that schools may not be a major driver of cases with the type of smug self satisfaction the is completely at odds with the paper thin argument they are presenting against an imagined scenario.

Its the Trumpist method used to position an extreme non existent version of the opponents message and hope enough people believe it that your own point doesn't seem so bad

Numbers falling fairly steadily now. Schools closed again I take it?

Like this type of post, raind?

Jaysus, when one actually gets reported you seem to take it quite personally and get quite angry about it.

Maybe you need to re-balance the narrative you constantly push, that way you won't be surprised or angry when someone posts about it in a thread about schools and covid.

    Up to you.

I never commented about the case, which is to be expected. I commented about the narrative being pushed in the commentary associated with the case. It is relevant to a schools thread on covid to challenge as spin being put on what is actually happening that does not align with the broader data

    Indeed.

Its ok if you cant see the difference between sarcasm and spin

Think the fact that any and all references to "doorbells" on this thread are mick taking exercises is clearly lost on some.

"I know you are, but what am I" would probably be on the same level as this one.

Just acknowledge that you were hypocritical in your rant this morning and we can keep the thread on track.

Big school in Cork closed owing to covid in schools.

The school closure in Cork is good to see if it keeps staff and students safe.

When there's a whole page of doorbell mick taking it's repetitive and inane. If you want to have a scoff thread maybe you should start one.

It's a Shinner attempt at sarcasm, we all know that. Especially ridiculous because they can't keep things under control where they are actually in charge.

I know I will probably regret asking this question.

But what is a "Shinner attempt"?

I'm wondering that as well seeing as I'm as far away from a "shinner" as you'll get.

Does that poster mean "shinner" as in Sinn Fein?

I actually ruled that out because I can't for the life of me marry any relevance.

    Weird.

    Only interpretation I can muster.

It is exactly the interpretation. I think comment was made Leo the only reason it is constantly mentioned is to continue social media FG vs SF squabble. Unless people think Covid doesn't transmit on the surfaces.

Well I mention it because of it's absolute ludicrous nature. Also kinda funny that it was one of the reasons used so strop people visiting. Nothing to do with politics or party affiliation.

Its a style of argument that seeks to assign the most extreme interpretation of the opposing view, one that is often not actually professed by anyone, and then seeking to ridicule anyones argument by constantly referring back to that extreme. Id refer to it more as Trumpist, but can see in the the Shinner method also. To be clear, its not a suggestion that the views are aligned with Trump or Sinn Fein, which are very different in most ways. Its more the methods applied by their supporters which are quite similar.

Well if you say do then of course it has to be correct.

So basically if you disagree with me you are aligned with Trump or Sinn Fein motives.

Cool. Different level of lack of self awareness and hypocrisy in that.

    But hardly a shock.

    Pertinent part bolded.

    Point stands.

The deflection and name calling that has gone on here is quite Trumpian to be fair, since you brought the artificially tanned one up, I see quite a few similarities in tone and style.

But We will leave it there, very off topic, plain trolling really.

    Methods, not motives. Big difference

And in reality, this discussion has resulted from consistent ridiculing of any viewpoint and individual who challenges the accepted narrative on the thread. An accepted narrative which itself is at odds with the wider view and data

As I mentioned earlier in the thread there was a case in my child's class. The child's parents are health care workers. The entire class was tested, off for a couple of weeks and there was no further transmission. They are all back to school now. Seems like it was handled well.

Sounds like it was, but unfortunately there isn't a uniform approach in schools to identifying close contacts or to testing. I think the biggest factor that has kept numbers low so far, apart from handwashing, has been keeping the windows and doors open to encourage ventilation.
