Well the whole fact that pubs have been shuttered for 10 months is probably a bit of a clue?

I asked about hospitals and nursing homes being the source of majority covid cases, so your statement is odd!!

Just want a link to the proof that the source is hospitals and nursing homes.

The negativity coming from this government and NPHET is absolutely insane, do they have not one good thing to say? They've barely mentioned the fantastic news of the vaccines. Another one announced this morning but not a fcuking peep about that. Too busy trying to decide what to close down next. Also, still in the process of putting a taskforce together to make a plan to roll out the vaccines. Another bloody quango that will be milked for as long as possible on the tax-payers dollar.

Matt Hancock in the UK this morning was on the news and he was very positive. He stated they're getting 100 million doses. NHS workers will start getting them before the year is out and he fully expects things will be back to 90% normailty in the UK by Easter. I listened and was so happy to hear him but then I remembered I'm Irish and our band of buffoons in the Dail and HSE will be dragging their heals as usual, they're the reason we're in this mess now so no too confident they're going to get us out of it fast.

Talk to the nation with a bit of fcuking optimism because this constant doom and gloom is tiring and depressing.

When the Pfizer one got announced a few weeks back, I remember watching the UK press conference and Jonathan Van Tam, the Deputy Chief Medical Officer over here, explained in pretty normal terms how it works, why its a positive sign, and how he's personally very optimistic about it, and alluded to it being like waiting at a train station and seeing the lights of the train coming into the distance. He also read out some points from their findings and told people where you could find them all if you were interested. Then I saw Tony Holohan answer a question about it and basically said don't get your hopes up, he looked like he either didn't know anything about it or just couldn't care. It was jarring.

"NPHET are to meet on Wednesday to discuss restrictions" eh dont bother we'll decide for ourselves at this stage. Have we anybody in a government with a backbone???

Worried about being labeled granny killers probably.

Prioritising their profits above people's health.

The kind of emotive bullsh;t that's being peddled instead of facts.

What profits if they are not even operating a business?

Well you can't exactly close hospitals and nursing homes now can you?

I read that most people who are in the hospital with Covid actually first got infected in hospital.

NPHET can get fu**** at this stage. The game is well and truly up and over.

Went for a walk last night and saw loads of people interacting with one another, young people playing football and having a laugh, loads of alledged (granny killers) out walking in groups and chatting.

Bussinsess should join together across the country and open up immediately and save themselves from further financial ruin. This is now about the rights of individual freedom, which is fundamental to our society.

Don't be lectured for a second longer by Holohan and NPHET - they belong in court facing a judge.

Because it messes with their anti alcohol/ pub agenda. The UK don’t have a similar agenda that’s the difference.

I've often refrained from the 'NPHET hate alcohol' angle but I find this hard to fathom. An international thousand plus anti alcohol event, coinciding with the cancelled 6 nations game in March, and Tony said there was "no need to cancel"

In fairness I think Tony will bring in a new radical approach to restrictions, He will lead the way in Europe in a fresh new approach to living with the virus.

This ground breaking, game changer is set to be called Level 5+.

NPHET think that public health in all forms is under their remit - and even though pubs & restaurants are not the biggest drivers in transmission of covid, they will take advantage of this opportunity to keep them closed. Because they know better than the lowly people, they know whats best for us and alcohol is not in our best interests.

That is a huge and stunning development from Karl Brophy. I never knew that until now.

So we were right all along, Holohan has a personal vendetta against the pub industry.

He allowed a anti-alcohol conference to take place in March when the pandemic began and he himself spoke at this absurd conference.

This is just the proof we were all waiting for, the pub industry should be banging the table right now and demanding answers.

I have said it from the start, it was always an anti alcohol thing. Holohan also did a talk with Alcohol Action Ireland a few years ago.

The people on NPHET are ideologically opposed to alcohol. They blame it for all of the health services woes. They want to introduce a continental type approach of basing drinking around meals. That's what the €9 meal thing is.

There is absolutely no medical reason why sitting at table eating a meal for 2 hours is any different to sitting at a table drinking pints for 2 hours. It was always an anti-alcohol angle. Holohan and Co would gladly see the back of pubs. They think Ireland would be a better place without them.

I genuinely swear this has to be the smoking gun that wakes people up and lands Holohan in hot water at last.

Don't let this go unseen, inform as many people as possible and share, share, share.

Optimism is great, if it's based in realism.
Unfortunately, Mr. Hancock is rather incompetent and has presided over a shambolic failure to manage the Covid-19 pandemic in the UK. Dr. Gabriel Scally is on record as decrying the "dishonest briefings" given by Mr. Hancock and others early on in the pandemic.
The current crop of Tory politicians in government are simply not to be trusted.

Is there any point in writing to your tds about this anti alcohol/ pub agenda, actually I suppose the Healy Rae’s would listen.

    Might just start with them.

The only way things will change is people contacting their TDs and letting their feelings on this issue be heard. Be constructive and polite, but do it if you feel strongly about it

Although it's been recognised that the parties have social media teams reviewing threads like this, your TD is your direct voice into the decisions that are being made.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,517 ✭✭✭RobitTV

Don't bother guys with any of the main political parties, as they are all under the same spell.

Only a few honest independent TD's are willing to get this out to the public. People can bi*** about the Healy-Rae's all they want, but at least they are speaking out against this madness.

They would be worth contacting 100%

Yes thank you, I’m going to construct a letter to the Healy Rae’s first.

So why didnt they ban the off licenses?

At the end of the day NPHET doesn't make the call, its the government that makes the calls. Do any of the TD's own pubs?

NPHET just gives recommendations, like any advisory board, you don't have to implement them.

I see UK will close pubs also in their new planned lockdown format. And very limited open in Tier 2!!!

Don’t compare the opening situation pubs had in the Uk with here even when we had 5 fed kin cases a day. In the Uk for ages you didn’t have to order food to go into a pub and there was no time limit. My friend came over from the Uk in the summer and when I told him about the hour n half limit he was like WTf? But thankfully a lot of places didn’t adhere to that stupid rule.

    We've been though this...

NPHET and Tony H, with their daily interviews, tweets, and conferences have been actively undermining the authority of the Government (weak as they are) by announcing recommendations and "concerns" to the public in advance of the Cabinet actually meeting on the matter.

Government officials called Tony H out on this only in the last week or so.

NPHET should make their recommendations like any other advisory group does - ie: without the media grandstanding - alongside input from other interested bodies, and any debate on the issue should happen there, not driven by social media hysteria.

I went to the UK end of July - queued; track and trace; regularly sanitizing hands; ordering by text/card and delivery to table.

Nice few pints in 2-3 pubs with the best friend. All safe. Not a bit of food needed - ate before I came out.

Holohan, NPHET and others have an anti alcohol agenda. And don’t get my started on the fruit loop Chicken Little who said we’d have 20,000 deaths!!!
