I don’t see the argument with not having a tiered structure. You can get promoted to the top and compete. If not good enough to get promoted then you weren’t going to win an All Ireland anyway

Can ever understand how every county championship is run with junior, intermediate and senior grades yet for some reason every county needs to play for Sam.

One way or the other there is a clear anti Dublin GAA agenda there.

Ah here lad, listen. We (Donegal) won one All Ireland this decade and we are still getting abuse in media circles and from supporters from other counties for "ruining football". I can honestly say I don't know anyone in the country that gives a hoot. Tune into any of your GAA Hour, Off The Ball podcast type shows and they'll tell you Donegal play a blanket defence and boring football, despite the evidence of the last 3 years. The narrative has been set against us. But I can honestly say that we could not give a hoot because we won our coveted All Ireland and people from Armagh/Kerry/Dublin/Tyrone etc can say what they want and it won't take that away from us. And that is only one poxy All Ireland!

Dublin have won 5 in a row, and this forum is polluted with Dublin supporters lamenting the fact that users aren't lining up on here to cream themselves over how unreal Dublin are. Honest to Christ, I hate to say it but I can't help but think the average Dublin supporter needs to grow a thicker skin. Ye have won 5 on the trot and are on course for 6. What does it matter a damn about some lad on boards with an "anti Dublin agenda"?!

Say what you want about Dublin winning, it’s not their fault. Gaa money and structure has the gaa where they are today. Football is gone boring no chance of an upset, until the smaller counties turn around and say we ain’t wasting our time entering a senior team in the AI,football is dead in this country.

Yes, it’s an awful comparison. But Dublin could insist on playing an odd match away in the championship. And by that I mean play, say this year, Donegal in an All Ireland semi final in MacCumhaill Park. Or Cavan in Breffni Park. Can’t use capacity as an excuse this year.

We can use Covid. Nonsense idea.

No chance. I couldn't take the insufferable self justification. I'll stick to the real game and the only AI really worth winning - hurling.

Off you pop. Nothing like a "hurling man". State of that post.

How many more backdoor rounds are left?

Or was that turgid affair between Waterford and Clare the last one before the AISF?

    I'm not blind to issues.

I'm just not blinded by the hatred that exists amongst the bleaters.

To think Dublin are the cause of all ills in Gaelic football is just ridiculous.

    Look closer to home.

Anyway, this crap has gone on long enough off topic.

Roll on the other 2 games tomorrow. I look forward to the chat about this year's championship.

Or perhaps we should look closer at the GAA. Perhaps if you bothered to listen instead of losing it everytime someone mentions Dublin then you'd see that the criticism is levelled at the GAA who allowed this situation to come about.

Why? “We need to gather money” has been the narrative to date. Ah shur come up, what are you all scared off?? Be a bit of craic, then the Dubs could say “we’ll play anyone anywhere” (in a game that actually means anything and with a chance of being knocked out).

But it’s ok, it’s cold up north. And the transport links are terrible. And it might affect preparation. Bless.

They could always ask their official airline to fly them up to Donegal. Gweedore has a decent ground.

I dont think its hatred, at least not among real GAA people tbh but there is an issue and it aint going away. Getting rid of the provs wont change things over night and might never but it just might give the likes of Meath, Kildare, Laois, Fermanagh, Tipperary, Clare, Limerick, Sligo etc some breathing space, that maybe just maybe they might begin to make progress under an open draw type system , one tier or two, whatever

It's dying because players from many counties are seeing the pointlessness of it. Why train hard, give up a lot of your free time, sacrifice so much, only to play in a competition that has been compromised by the governing body giving one county outrageous advantages. Players are voting with their feet, so are supporters.

I do believe there is a thread changes in the gaa thread

Anyone giving Tipp a chance? Apart from one hammering a couple of years ago, they've been close to Cork in championship and league last 5/6 years and beat them in league two years ago.

Granted, none of this might matter tomorrow, but Tipp are both familiar with them and should have some hope, especially as no-one seems to be giving them any hope after Cork's great win over Kerry.

    Might be an interesting match.

Exact words Costello said to linesman was “fxxk off... ya prxxk”. From footage it’s easy to lip read at least that. That’s a straight red so won’t be overturned imo. Costly for him I suppose but deserves his ban by letter of the law.

Strange statement to make on the hurling game when it was the football that was a non contest.

I don't know why anyone would come into the football thread, make a statement, refuse to back it up and then say that hurling is better and go off in a huff.

It was a bit odd tbf. I'm sure you read back and understood the context.

That's the spread. Probably accurate enough.

Could also be argued that Cork are on upward trajectory - which they obviously are - while Tipp are in a bit of a flat space. Although, interestingly, their best performance in league even though it was loss was getting within a point of Cork.

What even is your point? At the time I thought it was clear I was meaning one all Ireland this decade, although since it's clear that it wasn't received that way. I also mention 5 all Ireland's for Dublin in the same post, as opposed to the 30 odd that they actually have(and they've even won more than 5 this decade...)and nobody pulled me up for that. I thought that would make it clear I was referring to this decade.

I think cork will probably have to much
Tipp struggled for large parts against limerick, mind you
Corks attacking power should be to much on home soil

But but as I have said on here before cork are like the Irish weather, unpredictable

They looked very good against dublin last summer but went out on a whimper to Tyrone and roscommon
Youd expect them to win tomorrow but wouldn't be overally surprised if Tipp done the unthinkable

Dublin would love a trip up to Donegal. Great view from the plane. Make sure you get Aer Lingus to paint it in blue.

In fairness to the linesman, he's not there to be told to "fk off you pr1ck."!

Nothing to do with being hard. Its about respect. It is also on a different level to the back and forth between players.

We've all seen certain chaps on the sideline act the boll0x over the years, intimidating linesmen and without any back up. They are as deserving as anyone else of good manners and a bit of decency.

You watched Clare vs Waterford followed by Dublin vs Meath, and out of those two, it's the Clare vs Waterford game that you're describing as a "turgid affair"? Honestly?

Dublin could field their minors and end up in the semis.

Well that's rubbish given their minors haven't won a minor all Ireland since 2012. Cork minors are current champions and Kerry won 5 in a row before that. Some amount of rubbish posted here.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 478 ✭✭Roots 2020

Laois have played Dublin 35 times in championship. NEVER in Portlaoise. A few times in Athy and Tullamore. Nowlan park 2016.

Now that's a terrible indictment on the GAA. There's a historic bias at play. Also the men from county boards across Leinster who voted for Dublin's financial aid are gombeen men. Like John Delaney yes men. They rise to these positions but are clueless as to what their clubs and counties' wishes are.

Dublin are a superb team. That first goal today was sublime, from kick out to finish. They made it look so easy, and it wasn't. One poor loopy handpass and the chance was gone. Perfection. We forget how good they are.

But we need fair play off the field.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 478 ✭✭Roots 2020

Also I was disappointed with Meath. From the off they were fearful and never took the game on.

Meath have a 200,000 pop, Kildare 220,000 population. They are predominantly football counties. If Mayo, 130,000 population and Donegal 160,000 pop can be competitive surely the two Leinster counties can.

I was down over Laois last weekend but we have a population of 86,000 and the county is split down the middle between hurling and football. Offaly, Carlow, Westmeath are similar. But you would expect more from Kildare and Meath.

Can we keep the knockout format until someone can challenge Dublin? Super 8s were a joke last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,174 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

There are still plenty of good games to watch in the football championship if you avoid watching Dublin. As a Cavan supporter, for example, we’ve had fantastic games against Monaghan & Down that were hugely exciting, even for neutrals.

Last year we had games like Donegal vs Kerry in Croke Park that were terrific to watch so, other teams may be playing for second place at the moment, but there’s still entertainment to be seen.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,029 ✭✭✭vetinari

That's true. It's more the idea of having an extended championship format is daft when Dublin are so dominant. Last year it devalued everything before the semi finals as there was no hope they would be knocked out. At least this year with straight knockout there's the chance they could have a horrific off day and go out.
