There have been seven further deaths of people with Covid-19 and 482 new cases of the disease confirmed by the Department of Health.

    https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/we-must-not-allow-our-success-to-let-us-drop-our-guard-against-covid-nphet-warns-as-seven-deaths-and-482-new-cases-confirmed-39744570.html

Just me or level 5 is not working - at all? Or schools are back - cases are back? Akin to NI super circuit breaker lockdown of 4 weeks- achieved absolutely nothing. And health minister there was looking for 2 week extensions..

Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, said: “The increase in case numbers of COVID-19 today is an important reminder of the unpredictable nature of this highly infectious disease.

Translation - cases are rising, we dont know how or where or how to stop them from rising. our previous decisions have achieved very little. Yours truly, Tony H.

What are the odds that this 8 year old piece regarding a vaccine that Tony Holohan told people to take, and helped to protect the companies who rushed it through, yet gave devastating side effects to some, will become relevant over the coming years?

    History to repeat itself?

Like I said earlier, we are following the advice of somebody with repeated failures and who has repeatedly made serious errors of judgement. Why exactly should we be listening to him now?

Where else would you see it? In any other industry a guy who keeps being wrong would be pushed aside and no longer listened to. Not here, here we put him in charge.

it annoys them because it reinforces the fact that they are in a minority.
it reinforces the fact that the restrictions are working in reducing case numbers so we can reopen.
it annoys them because they know the government will never listen to them in a million years and will implement policy on covid 19 based on the evidence.

nope it's just good old common sense which cannot be fear mongering.
because numbers are down it doesn't mean it has gone away, so dispite any relaxing of restrictions we must still take caution and follow the guidelines.
level 5, just like our last lock down, does seem to be working.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

So no, you've no idea how to manage people. It's not about eating out per say. "No man is an island". Humans are the only animals that eat while looking at eachother. We're talking about deeply rooted evolutionary forces here.

And restaurants are not the only place people can meet. Much safer at home.

I find your point bizarre to be honest, "managing people".

    Hello.
Risk assessment and corrective measures for a pandemic are very complex undertakings. We have a team of specialists appointed and working full time on that task, and I would urge all to heed their message and comply with the recommendations issued by the government.
Individuals making their own assessments, and acting independently as they see fit, would unfortunately be a recipe for disaster.

People have been eating and drinking out as far back as history records civilisation.
It was probably happening even before that.

And dying from their own ignorance for millenia too.

    Just on that.

EVERYTHING is a god given right. Its what we call freedom.
Restricting freedom is a big deal. Possibly one of the biggest there is. Even temporarily restricting freedom where necessary for the public good must therefore be proportionate and appropriate and hold up to the utmost scrutiny.

Nphet and Tony seem way too comfortable in their new found role of the nations tough love daddy.

Selfish spoiled and frankly weak attitude.

We need to grow a pair and practice some delayed gratification.

Man's need are few and wants are many.

We are too soft and have grown to consider luxuries as rights.

I stick to every restriction for your information . My argument was with a poster who seemed to think I was daft to do so

I agree with you but the problems are many- shops, cafes, restaurants, cinema, theatre, hairdressers, travel etc etc practically everything we’d use normally to socialise is all shuttered as per St Tony’s “very worried” dictates. I’d have a normal Xmas in the morning but it’s impossible with the mania and lunatic fringe currently running things. I’m resigned to a quiet non existent Christmas with close family. My heart breaks for people forcibly separated abroad and also stuck here away from loved ones

    "Impossible"

All you need is some groceries and your family.

Why is it bothering you that I stick to the restrictions of 5kms ? Can you explain that to me ?

So you are in favour of family members abroad travelling here for Xmas to reunite? And eat some groceries while they are at it?

I forgot thepresents, go visit friends safely.

    What is abnormal here?

The only thing lacking is a few nights in the pub. We will survive.

Yes so long as they quarantine on arrival as expected

First part in bold - cases are going up.

Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, Department of Health, said: “The increase in case numbers of COVID-19 today is an important reminder of the unpredictable nature of this highly infectious disease.

    2nd point in bold

CMO said: If we can keep up high levels of compliance, we can get to where we need to be on December 1.”

    https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/we-must-not-allow-our-success-to-let-us-drop-our-guard-against-covid-nphet-warns-as-seven-deaths-and-482-new-cases-confirmed-39744570.html

Have you ever thought why Tony H has never said what is the number of cases where we need to be? Irish public are being treated like absolute idiots and you keep banging the drum lockdowns are working. 7 people died today with a positive PCR test. 4 died in entire August. No lockdown in August. Level 5 in November. Explain? Public disobedience is it?

Or perhaps, covid is a seasonal illness, and no matter how many business you shut down you ll always have people dying with covid in the colder months, and have "cases"?

You're not expected to quarantine on arrival.

You're advised to restrict your movements and you could do that at your family home while others come to visit you.

At the moment, you are most likely to catch Covid in a hospital or nursing home.

I think that sums up the performance of Government/NPHET/HSE.

But of course it’s easier to just put half a million out of work and finger wag about house parties while they continue to earn 6 figure salaries for their incompetence.

And we have even more evidence now that lockdown simply doesn’t work. Huge social and economic cost and we still have hundreds of cases.

Anyone who thinks the vast majority are abiding by the restrictions are only fooling themselves.
The poll on the other thread proves that this has turned into an extremely divisive issue, the results were pretty much split down the middle between those who are following the rules and those who aren’t.

The same poll a few weeks into the first lockdown would have revealed a landslide result in favour of people willingly abiding and complying with restrictions. I myself was in that number then, but not this time around.

The fear has been gone for the majority for a long time and most who are obeying are doing so grudgingly. I have yet to meet a single person this time around who completely agrees and supports every single element of level 5. There’s way more dissent, frustration and criticism than there was back in March.

I followed every restriction to the letter for 13 weeks during the first lockdown, in fact I voluntarily started restricting my movements about two weeks before the government made it mandatory based on what I had seen and read online.

I had my friends over for wine most weekends in September, when there was no lockdown and having visitors at home was allowed. The only rule I was breaking then was having 7 people over instead of 6. I’m not sorry or bothered about your judgment.

we aren't being treated like idiots, you are just in a minority and can't deal with it so come out with the usuals.
you are of course missing, i personally suspect deliberately, the terms suppression, minimising and control, not eradication, in relation to our policy on the virus.
seasonal illness or not, a circuit breaker lock down before christmas does seem to have been shown to be the correct approach.
