Hello. You may not be following my updates on this and other threads here on www.boards.ie, but effort is now focused on avoiding that scenario, and there is every indication that through a variant Level 3 status following the current Level 5 programme, this can indeed be achieved.

Level 3 is a lockdown as far as I am concerned

NPHET out already putting a damper on the vaccine news at their press conference. They don’t sound very prepared for a mass vaccination roll out either. Is this going to be the case once again where we watch citizens in our neighbouring countries return to normal long before us due to a lack of planning, organising or forward thinking...
And this despite NPHET clearly stating their strategy was bide time until the vaccine arrives...

I really don't understand people who seem to watch these press conferences religiously...and get pissed off every single time. I have yet to watch one.

Hello. This is correct. NPHET’s Terms of Reference include overseeing and providing direction, directing the collection and analysis of required data, directing communications at local, regional and national level and evaluating the readiness of Ireland’s health service to manage Covid-19. Executive powers rest with the cabinet who as well as the NPHET briefings, take a wider view of economic and social priorities into consideration.

Hello. Can you confirm or deny if you are in a government post or indeed a member of NPHET please?

With respect that statement makes very little logical sense.
All those in the test group are getting the same vaccine, so why would it greatly change the percentage for all the rest in the group compared to the first 94 that received it.

    Are you serious?
    What makes you think that?

Any test set up worth its salt uses a double-blind system, with half the subjects getting a placebo and the other half the vaccine, and no one involved knowing who got what.

If that system was not followed and the test data is revealed for examination, then any results they claim is not only suspect, but will be dismissed out of hand by anyone with a lick of sense.

I see the cases are well down today. Hopefully they will reduce further in coming weeks. So what is the best we can hope for on Dec 1 when this six week lockdown is over? Have Nphet and the government beaten us into submission? Have they broken our spirit?

Tony in his perpetually miserable state will push for level 3 while all data suggests level 2 at worst. Government will go level 2 and a bit is my guess.

I think Tony will struggle to get to grips with his waning influence over the government and the fact this whole thing might come to an end with the threat of a tribunal looming over his head due to the nursing home fiasco. He would deserve some sort of tainted legacy from covid, not a positive one.

He has a few tribunals to face.

I only saw the somber Leo on St. Patrick's day.

Have avoided all Covid media driven stuff since, especially Nphet related information. Far too depressing altogether.

We know what we should do now. Until the vaccine arrives which is great news.

So you have no idea what’s going on but spend your time arguing with those most informed on the topic?!

    "Most informed"

You're a good laugh Fintan, I'll give you that. I'm very well informed. I even know what the terms, 'police state' and 'banana republic' actually mean.

Hello. 'Lockdown' is rather imprecise term, varying in colloquial use and in the media, and what it means to different people.
One is free to use it as one wishes, but it has little purpose in conveying the level of restrictions being applied at a given time. The current structure of five levels is more useful in that regard, with less room for the individual subjective interpretation that you describe.

As far as I am aware Pfizer`s Coronavirus vaccine trials are double- blind. Anything I have read or heard on these latest results has said the same.

If you have information they are not then perhaps rather than speculate, post the information

It is you who said a double blind was not carried out so why not answer your own question instead of trying to turn it on me?

..... and no I will not be responding further if you attempt to wriggle out of that ..... maybe by implying you meant only half the test subjects ........

I second the requests for MelbourneMan to clarify if he is a member of or has ties with NPHET. If you are then maybe ask yourself if it’s appropriate to be posting here without full disclosure of your circumstance/professional bias.... if not, then maybe stop posting as if you are!

It’s a respectful request to be fair.

The problem is, if he admits as much, there'll be a pile on from the usual crowd.

That’s very true! He’d be hounded no doubt! But.... my opinion only, if he is I don’t think it’s appropriate he is posting here in the manner he has been! Again, that’s just my own opinion.

There is another thread on this site where I have personal ties with subjects involved in the matter (non covid) and have decided to refrain from posting in it! So it’s just a position I feel is appropriate.

    We were closed.
Demand never dried up. Businesses were forced to close based on NPHET advice.

    Doesn’t matter anymore anyways.

Today will be a tough day for some people no doubt but lockdown is coming to an end very soon.

And most of us will party hard next year despite the recession.

once lock down 1 was over we were not closed, we weren't 100% open but that was never going to happen, and it didn't really happen elsewhere either as there were often local lock downs.
but yes mostly we were open.
those of us who understand restrictions are necessary as well as lock down if things get to a stage where there is a risk of losing control, certainly don't find today tough but quite a promising day all though certainly one must be cautious until more data is available about this vaccine.
yes lock down ends on december first.

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.

FFS do you know so little about vaccine trials that you somehow believe anybody even imagines that all participants in trials receive the vaccine.

You may not be in favour of vaccines, but that does not entitle you to act like a petulant child.

The current structure of 5 levels that neither the government or NPHET can agree on when coming up with new restrictions.

Remember when it was launched and Dublin was put on Level 2 + 'a bit of whatever you're having yourself'? That was great craic altogether. Or when the rest of the country was put on Level 3 with some level 4 added for the shïts and giggles. Fun times indeed.

The 5 point plan is more subjective than critical theory and that's some hogwash altogether.

"Well, yeah, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man"

Caught a clip of our Dear Leader st Tony there on news earlier- clear he doesn’t/didn’t want to know about the new vaccine - obvious from his body language and words. Code for- There’s no way this clown is giving up control anytime soon and we will be continuing with this nonsense as long as humanly possible- even with a vaccine. He’s found a very nice little niche that requires no innovation or lateral thinking.
I’ve all but given up on Covid 19, haven’t posted here in weeks since the latest waste of time lockdown. No one else seems to give a hoot about how we are paying for any of this. My only hope is other more sensible, rational nations will get on with it soon as the vaccine rolls out and eventually we’ll have to do the same

If you have a problem with a post or poster report it and leave the modding to the mods

In addition it is inappropriate to request an anonymous account holder to reveal their identity, and indeed anyone they mat say they are cannot be verified unless formally vetted at Office level. So drop the point

It is very sad to see the attitude from posters in this thread toward Tony Holohan who is really doing a great job and the vast majority of people in the country are 100% behind him.

This thread most certainly appears to be a collection of militantly anti-restriction posters and so on who have no thought or understanding at all on how to manage a pandemic.

Plenty of terminally ill women would disagree.
Hopefully we have a tribunal on the nursing homes as well.

Incredible that a man with so much blood on his hands still has a job.
