im all for a bit of positivity but is that not a bit odd tbh, we have one of the worst healthcare systems in the EU, our contact tracing is falling apart, our education system is also one of the worst with regards numbers and resources in the eu, we have an open border with the North which is particularly bad. How the hell are we bringing numbers down when no one else can?
Bars/restaurants shut, no visits to homes probably

Its seasonal in the sense of how we live our lifes, the effects of the virus will be worse during the months we spend more time indoors in close proximity to others. Reduced sunlight and people spending less time exercising outdoors will also effect the body's immune system.

Just because we were the first to shut bars/restaurants, Dublin bars shut over a month ago. I'd also imagine contact tracing is collapsing everywhere right now, huge surge in most European countries, and no system can cope with that.

Any day now below 1000 is a good day, that's how bad it is.

This is a seasonal disease. Why is it so hard for people to understand that it was going to increase in the winter as businesses opened and people continued to do normal activities?

How can it be ascertained at this early stage that Covid-19 is seasonal ?

    Hayfever is seasonal

We call the flu seasonal too but it's really our behaviours and habits that are seasonal

In my opinion, seasonality, in the case of a virus, suggests susceptibility to temperature, humidity and/or amount of sunlight

Cork should be sleazed off with those numbers

Yesterday’s positive swabs were higher than today, so if anything things are improving slightly.

You (like a number on here) are reading way too much into each single days figures.

No that’s never going to happen but a continued downward trend would have been good

Yep, few hundred cases. So we'll have a big day of cases numbers in the next few days when they catch up. I find this very irritating, as it will be reported on RTE as an increase, but it won't be

Its about 1,600 over 2 days. This time last week it looked like that number would be a daily figure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 387 ✭✭Goldrickssan

They need to build up a backlog of cases so they can give George Lee a big number at least once a week.

He would die of blue balls otherwise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,802 ✭✭✭✭ACitizenErased

Luckily even with the backlog it looks as if, with the swabs dropping, the +backlog figure won't be as bad as previous weeks
