Huge anti lockdown protest in London today, hard to say how many people but it looks like tens of thousands.

The funny thing is that the lockdown in England is nowhere as harsh as ours, I think the only major thing is that pubs have to close at 10PM.

We didn't have RTE where I lived in the north. I don't see the attraction. The fact that everyone is talking about it points to the fact that it's got a massive following.

It's all about the audience. The audience for the LLS is already following everything Holohan instructs them to do. He will not be getting his message out to anyone else on the LLS.

Did I hear right that the Westminster/Parliament bar isn’t closed?

It depends on which tier (1, 2 or 3) you fall into. They're fairly restrictive.

I think most of the Irish are realising they were sold a pig in a bag and have been the most suppressed nation in Europe since June.

Tony H said last night this will not be a normal Christmas.

    Not really.
In the upper tier you can still go to the pub/restaurant for a pint and a 'substantial meal' (The copied that off us).
    All retail is opened.
Their highest level is more or less where we were at in July.

Anyone with the brass neck to cling onto his role after presiding over the cervical check scandal is, at the very least, a dangerous egotist
It has to be said that, in this, Tony is just going along with the culture of the ruling classes in Ireland; brass neck all the way, never take responsibility, never fall on your sword and do the honourable thing and always brazen it until you're guaranteed your golden handshake.

Tide is turning on Tony. He will still have his loyal supporters, he could drive a nursing home bus off a cliff and some on here would defend him, we would probably get a graph on the dangers of nursing home buses. He is all ego.

You seem to take the stance the the rest of Europe have similar restrictions to Ireland and it just isn’t true, no matter how many times you are proven wrong. Localised lockdown is not comparable to nationwide lockdown.

Ireland is an outlier, has been for months, and will continue to be.

He should never have been allowed to retain his position.

His every appearance smacks of an 'I know best' smugness and arrogance.

He makes my skin crawl TBH.

I agree. When there was talk of freedom of the city for superhero holohan it just made me really sad. What a slap in the face after the cervical check scandal. And people going for it.

I don't. You seem to keep trying to put words in my mouth. Stop it please. I know localised lockdown isn't comparable to nationwide lockdown. I didn't make that comparison. I didn't say they have similar restrictions to here either. You're reading something that isn't there.

You initially responded in disagreement to a post that stated the UKs restrictions are not as harsh as Ireland’s.

I’m not putting words in your mouth, I’m repeating what you are saying.

I remember not that long ago a certain individual within the FAI somehow became a celebrity of some sorts. His job was to run the FAI, but he was a narcissist and hogged the limelight at every opportunity he could.

Be very wary of people who follow that path.

If this was 50 years ago, Tony H would be a bishop and be on the LLS telling people why they can't have access to contraception.

There is a sizeable cohort in this country, happy to outsource their thinking to the man in the big house.

A few years ago the social-media generation were slapping themselves on the back telling themselves how far Ireland had traveled - what a fcuking sick joke that turned out to be - at the first sign of trouble we fell straight back into an ultra-conservative, subservient bunch of sheep.

    Embarrassing.

I'm sick to death of reading the pro-lockdown agenda of RTE anytime I click an article about coronavirus. Today grilling the Taoiseach on why it took so long to move to Level 5.

Are there any Irish journalists or media companies brave enough to challenge the lockdown mantra and ask the tough questions?

Honest question. I would like to read their articles.

What was actually said, which was the part I was responding too was, "the only major thing is that pubs have to close at 10pm." I said that it depended on the tier you were on. There are other fairly major restrictions in there too. You're not repeating what I'm saying. You're paraphrasing and making assumptions.

Do you think Christmas is going to be normal?

The thing is, he's not trying to be a celebrity. It's the media that are pushing him as a celebrity. If he's being invited on to the likes of the LLS, surely he'll be thinking, "What better way to get the message out there."

Could do it over Zoom. Being in person was not "essential"

Oh okay. I really don't care either way. If he'd done it over Zoom, which is a shíte way to do an interview IMHO, he'd still be getting shít for it in here.

Posting this in travel thread but worth mentioning here

Valencia region in Spain which includes all of Costa Blanca and the Alicante area introduces curfew tonight until 9th December. Curfew might to 6am. Pubs last orders 11pm. Gatherings limited to 6.

Alcohol sales in offies and supermarkets is not permitted from 10pm to 8am. Still better than Ireland’s liquor laws!

Infection wise the region (similar population to Ireland) is one the best performing regions in Spain.

What’s most interesting about it is the justification. Government wants to avoid any type of lockdown unless absolutely necessary. The official document goes in to great details to highlight the problem areas by age group and social activity. We see nothing like this in Ireland where decisions are made, bar summary by country.

Could ireland not have considered something similar?

You prefer level 5 lockdown instead?

I am against any levels of lockdown. I'm supporting Sweden way of fighting the virus. Nonetheless, if i had to make a choice between Spanish Covid policy and Irish, I would choose Irish no questions.
