Is lockdown coming in tonight at midnight 00:00 Wedneday morning or have we another 24+hrs left? They made a fair disaster of the timing, could they not have said it comes into effect from 00:01 or 3am etc?

No tonight tomorrow night. Ya they should but it at a different time as it is confusing even to press conference last night

From here until Christmas, it's always midnight.

But midnight is 00:00 and the start of Wednesday morning and literally 3.5hrs from now? I saw a video of Leo and Martin both as confused as each other. So the lockdown starts at 00:00 on Thursday morning and not Wedneday?

To all the people who are advocating the closure of schools then what. Where are they to go who will look after them. Have you ever had children at home when you are trying to work. When do you allow them back

I fully support the need for schools to be open for the benefit of children ie education. However it has to be safe.
However you seem to be confusing the school setting with a child minding facility as opposed to learning environment.

That would be today at midnight, it's tomorrow at midnight. Or 00:01 on Thursday say if it's easier.

is there any pill available for hibernation?

Being a lover of walks through the forest in all seasons, I'd have no hesitation in recommending you try a mix of hazelnuts & acorns. Berries are not to be overlooked either, but they simply don't have the same shelf life.

In an emergency, you could consider "borrowing" from your local farmer's grain store but it's not something I'd be comfortable with myself.

This diet should keep you bright eyed & bushy tailed for the duration.

They should simply have stated 'Day' at '00:00' to avoid any sense of confusion. Midnight is the border between PM & AM, it doesn't belong to either.

More information on validation studies of antigen testing as reported on RTE:

'A detailed health technology analysis on forms of rapid testing is being undertaken by HIQA, with the findings due to be published by the end of the week, according to the Chief Medical Officer.

Asked about rapid antigen testing, Dr Tony Holohan said validation studies are happening in certain settings and said it's vital to know what it's effectiveness is in the field compared to our Irish gold standard.

At least two validation studies are under way at the moment, he said.

However, he said that the antigen test could not be seen as some sort of magical shield.'

Sometimes I wish Boards had a puke emoji.

There isn't rapid testing in Ireland for the most part. And there is feck all contract tracing. If contract tracing was anyway up to scratch we wouldn't be at level 5, 4 or even 3.

We were promised South Korean testing and tracing, we got South Sudan - like almost every god damn thing with the HSE.

And this matters why it is 13 people who have died early due to Covid. Have some respect

Its hugely important, if kids are dying of this and keeping schools open there will uproar, do you honestly not care if kids were dying and we were not being told.

Most of the time if there is downtime on a website they usually work with 00.05 or something like that rather than midnight to stop this type of confusion .

What I really don't like lately is the refusal to call out numbers

Last time we got % that was community spread was last Monday week when it was about 22% - nothing since then that I recall

No breakdown on ages by range of deaths either or Icu numbers, unless I'm missing smoething

Transmission source of cases in last 2 week period reported 5/10 to 18/10 to date

    40.84% under investigation
39.64% Close contact with confirmed cases
    17.10% community transmission
    1.22% healthcare acquired - patient
    0.83% healthcare acquired - staff
    0.38% travel related

Of those admitted to ICU in two week period between 5/10 and 18/10, age range as follows

    5-14 1
    15-24 1
    25-34 0
    35-44 2
    45-54 0
    55-64 6
    65-74 11
    75-84 3
    85+ 0

    Yes. Thursday morning.

Exactly, they’d have been better off to impose it at 11pm Wednesday night to avoid confusion. We’re so lucky with what’s running the country.

Interesting statistic in graphic in that article.

Proportion of Covid cases in school aged children before schools reopened 14.3%

Proportion of Covid cases in school aged children after schools opened 14.1%

Don’t let facts get in the way. I am expecting a concerted effort from certain quarters to get schools closed in case cases start to drop with them still open

Not at all and if I did apologies. But the fact is if the schools are closed what do we do with them. School is very important for education and rules and the such

Nobody is reporting the age of the people that died, we all know they are in their 80s but you can be guaranteed when the first young person dies of this it will all over the media.

I agree but the failure to have an effective isolation policy means our testing and tracing is doomed to failure.

There's only one midnight or 00:00 on any Wednesday and that is immediately following 23:59 Wednesday.
Wednesday doesn't begin until 00:00:01. There is no 00:00 on Thursday mornings.

There is trouble brewing in england.

Is King Andrew challenging the authority of Parliament ? This was all sorted in the 17thC.

Burnham at the stake I say.

Ah thanks clearly I have not been looking in the right places

So 17% community transmission does not correlate to rampant in the community to me

    Perhaps its a communications issue

And every single piece of data conversely points to highest deaths in old, obese and sick people. There could be 30 asymptomatic students in one room and we only have some idea when one becomes a bit sick. Then close contacts are in the firing line WHEN the hse get back to the school. The offending student is taken out but unlike the government promise, theres no pods so the other students party on through the community or school. Without mass testing in schools we will never know really.
Of mass testing that has taken place in schools, 246/10513 tested positive. Lower than positivity rates in community.

If it had mutated where regardless of age or fitness then it be very important and I am sure if that was happening they would say without mention of age. I do have a strong feeling the poster I quoted was not thinking as you are, which by the way is a very valid point

Yep... I don't understand it but there is a clear anti school agenda that is baffling. It's like the anti Vax crowd, no matter what data you give them they stay entrenched in their original opinion. Anyway, I think we'll see numbers falling steadily over the next week so we should be grand.

Rubbish. The new year starts immediately 00:00 or midnight has past.

How is the basic concept of midnight on a particular day so difficult for you to understand? Midnight end a Calander day.
