Cavan now has a 14 day incidence rate of 910 per 100k. That means roughly 0.9% of the population of Cavan has tested positive for coronavirus in the last 14 days.

It may be time to consider the status of schools on a county by county basis. Schools should not be open in an environment where infection is that widespread.

It's also still growing in Cavan, 80 today with a 14 day case average of 49.5 per day.

ICU admissions growing by over 600 each day in the European Union, 1/3 of total capacity will be occupied by COVID patients within a week and a half. I don't know what average level of occupancy of this total is during normal times, but 1/3 of that total being occupied by covid patients is surely a massive strain on the entire continent either way

Most countries have surge capacity plans whereby elective procedures are cancelled and surgical theaters are used for additional icu.

Belgium I believe has fully activated this surge capacity.

    LOL.

Taking it as 2 December before the next announcement so

It's to be reviewed in four weeks, so around the 18th November

They're already talking about further lockdowns (or extending this lockdown) at Christmas and in January. We haven't even started this one FFS.

Ah don't be so negative. Things will open for the Christmas season, and will shut up in January AGAIN.

Numbers permitting I suppose, but they can be suppressed I suppose, who verifies them I wonder?

After the schools close for Halloween they may not reopen. If numbers are still high it makes no sense to send kids back into covid Central.

Well one thing is for certain.

THEY CANNOT OPEN THE PUBS BEFORE CHRISTMAS.

People would go mad with christmas and just being out of lockdown.

I would say the pubs can't open at all until next year. If then even!

Its interesting ...people are having very emotional reactions to this.

Seven students positive and 45 close contacts. The school has been forced to reopen.
“My over-riding rule of thumb throughout my career has been ‘what is the right thing to do’ in every circumstance I deal with,” he added.

“This situation was no different. I will continue, to the best of my ability, in consultation with all the stakeholders of the school, to manage the health, safety and welfare of individuals to the very best of my ability.”

That's possible but not probable IMV. It makes a lot of sense in the dark days of Winter though if they are trying to keep hospital beds at best capacity and keep the spread from spreading.

But it is the one thing that FF nailed to their mast, so we shall see.

Not a popular opinion round these parts.

    Prepare to be corrected.

This is exactly the attitude he was referencing. Take responsibility and stop blaming a third party.

But he's doing exactly that himself, telling the public and teachers to be better behaved while never being critical of their own short comings.
But lets face it, the people who need to pay more attention to the guidelines won't be listening to him either way.

They will have to allow restaurant and pubs to open for the period at least that is when they make 30% (I heard) of there profits

We all know they won't be open before Christmas

To all the people who are advocating the closure of schools then what. Where are they to go who will look after them. Have you ever had children at home when you are trying to work. When do you allow them back

They will have to allow restaurant and pubs to open for the period at least that is when they make 30% (I heard) of there profits

Veradkar and Martin have both come out with opinions on this
Martin - we hope to go to level 3 in December

Veradkar - unlikely pubs and restaurants will open again this year

Donohoe - unlikely pubs and restaurants will reopen again this year

    https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-40067942.html
Pubs and restaurants will not be able to trade as normal once the six-week lockdown is over in the run up to Christmas as the country will remain at least level 3 until the New Year.

Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe has confirmed bars and restaurants will remain at level 3 until the end of year and, therefore, will not be able to re-open fully in time for Christmas.

Speaking at a press conference, Mr Donohoe said that even if a move to level 3 before Christmas, it will still create many challenges for the hospitality sector.

In what will be a devastating blow for thousands of businesses across the country, Mr Donohoe’s comments make clear there is little or no chance of returning to a level 2 or even level 1 in time for Christmas.

“In relation to level 3, that is what we are working to get to, but it is the case that we move to level 3 it will still create many challenges for those in our hospitality sector. But that is why we brought into VAT rate of 9% and it's why will maintain the EWSS up to the 31st of March,” he said.

Well you'd think they'd announce it yesterday then if that was the impact they were looking for no?

Every single fcucking week since March we've posters claiming deaths and cases are being secrretly stored as part some diabolical charade of scare mongering . Seems to be cases and deaths being 'saved' for 7 days a week, 365 days of the year

And this matters why it is 13 people who have died early due to Covid. Have some respect

Its a big elephant. Its not a situation anybody wants. But if you view pubs as being bad then you would have to say schools are beyond bad.

Even if they were open they aren't going to have the corporate xmas parties, team lunches, reunion dinners etc

Not going to be as easy to get the schools back next time they shutdown.

Depending on how the pay situation goes during lockdown

Every single piece of data points to schools not being a big driver of infection rates.

So what's the incentive for people if the government are saying it will be level 3 for Christmas?

That means no visitors to your home, no hospitality venues open, no travel outside your county

    Why specifically dutch patients?

Germany also spared capacity for French,Spanish and Italian covid patients back in April as well. Putting all of Europe's healthcare to shame!
