We are f**ked. The Pro-Lockdown mouthpieces in the media and at NPHET have no idea what people have to live like. They have this notion that every works for trendy tech start up or in a financial industry job that they can work from home and the industry will be fine for them when everything is back. They couldn't give a **** about anyone outside of their own social bubbles.

Retail workers out of work. Cleaners out of work. Bar-Restaurant people out of work, painter/decorators out of work, people who work in Gyms out of work, people in betting shops put of work, make up artists out of work. People with **** all hope of the future at the best of times, who are just trying to get by in a world being constantly taken away from them. Now the future holds absolutely nothing. Their jobs will officially be gone soon with no hope on the horizon for the future. If you lost your job already like myself, don't count on getting one soon. It will be years until you work again. They want us dead. To NPHET and the Smuglords, these are just jobs for college students before they join the establishment class. If you're working those jobs in your 30s, 40s, 50s you're better off dead in their eyes.

Our country has been stolen from us from smug doctors and media, who control piss weak politicians.

    Great post - the media were ****ed, but now this is a lifeline with everyone tuning in as the misery porn is dialed up to 11, and boy, are these one last ramping it;
I am so pessimistic about the future, I don’t know how we can survive as a country.
When do we ever hear about the recoveries from the”lethal virus”? There have been 50k infections uncovered and almost 2k deaths, with a median age of 88, and 90% of these had underlying conditions; I’m not saying it’s nothing, but there is also a positive story to tell

Let's not forget that there will be a review of this lockdown in four weeks.

Not a hope we are opening up on Dec 1st. Under current restrictions best case scenario is we get to R 0.5 in 3 weeks time then hold that for remaining 3 weeks. That gets us to 400 cases a day. But if we open up we'll hit 1000 a day just in time for Christmas get togethers. Nphet will have to keep us in Level 5 to prevent that.

    Reality bites.

Oh there are some absolute nutcases on that side of things - they know it all and have it all figured out, everyone who wears a mask or follows the rules is a “sheep” or “slave”. The only term I can think of for them is “****ing muppets”
Facebook is awash with them unfortunately.
I have unfriended a couple of people the past while on it, couldn't be arsed reading the rubbish on my timeline

That's 50,000 cases that we know of. The WHO reckon over 700 million people have had it but I guess that factors in countries that simply can't do test and trace.

And here was I thinking this thread was a mad house with people fixated on a few elite GAA Championship games taking place. Completely lost the plot blaming some inter county matches as a reason level 5 may not work.

Never said that they were, but apart from the odd flying visit from the resident restrictions thread posters, this one is relatively saner

Quite honestly after what they said tonight and the will to jump back to phase 3 I can see the 1st of December being a deadline for them regardless, the opening of retail etc for Christmas. I don't like getting political but it'll come down to that

MMmmmm ... not so sure about that.

    Thats unattainable in six weeks

Prob means more weeks after 1st December which was always likely

Well you were saying earlier that anyone living in the sticks like myself couldn't go running after dark due to no street lights, so not sure where you get that idea from.

It looks like this thread will be finished tonight, its back to its former glory of ten pages of posts being ahead me and I have it set at 40 posts per page. Maybe people can stop posting until I catch up. :)

I think at this stage it would be better to entitle the threads by season and episode like they do on TV series, ( i.e. Covid 19 Season 3 Episode 5).

    100%

NPHET never likely to release the country for Christmas

    Very unrealistic

Pull yourself together. Many greater disasters have befallen the world throughout history. Each time we rebuild. The tools and resources are even moreso in place these days for a swift recovery.

    The hysteria is something else.

Only catching up now. Heard bits of the news, more restrictions brought in. Are they still keeping schools open?

There hasn't been any news reports about terrorist attacks around the world for a while, could do with a change of news perhaps.

    My prediction.

    Lockdown now til 1st December.

We open, the country goes buck mental again, with shopping in a panic for Xmas, there will be no room in shops to socially distance, pubs will be packed, house parties galore.

And another lockdown in January to start the year off as we mean to continue .

Sure even NPHET have more or less guaranteed this will happen. Their models have us back at 300 cases per day by early January. Pointless.

Ignoring the years of misery and suffering in between all the rebuilding. This isn't a film there isn't going to be some tidy happy ending to all this. Thousands of people are going to slip into poverty from this. Is it really worth it ?

We'll save Christmas you guys. I mean, Johnny may have lost his business, Mary may have lost her job, Paddy may have decided to go for a walk in a river, and Eileen may have decided to burn the house down with herself locked inside, but it'll be Christmas.

And then people will be calling for yet one more lockdown. The last one this time, cross our hearts. That'll be the private sector well and truly put to the sword

I don’t think it’s safe at all to run in the dark with no street lights in the countryside in the Winter.

Don't worry we can all tune in on Christmas morning for Tony to laugh in our faces while he has his gold plated pension for the rest of his life while thousands of vulnerable and working poor families scrape and get told how lucky they are to get the pup payment
