Your wishing antivaxxers losing their income is vile though. If your vaccine works what are you worried about?

No, antivaxxers putting the health and welfare of the rest of the country is vile.

Life is a lot more than just an ideology,

Just for arguments sake, I’m not in the vulnerable category of people who die from this looking at the stats...I’ve a 99.997% chance of recovery. Do you think everyone like me should be forced to take the vaccine and do you think if I refuse I should lose my job, access to welfare, travel etc?

I just want to know how much of a nazi you are.

Oh, so now you suddenly care about everyone's welfare and health. A selfless man :pac: And there was us thinking you were just obsessed with getting the pubs back open :D

Realistically - not looking like pubs will be opened for Christmas.

Non-uptake will be a lot higher than 1%. 30% of Americans polled said they won't be taking a Coronavirus vaccine.

I saw constant whining from people on here moaning non stop when the pubs were closed.
When they opened up again , I expected them to be packed since so so many people , especially on here made out how it was so important, integral to everyday life, and people HAVE TO socialize with their friend , as if this could only be done in a pub.

Guess what, the pubs were dead quiet, where were all the people ?
Now they are closed again, back out comes the same people who cried previously.

Personally I dont care if they are open or shut, if the open i enjoy my pint, if shut, then so be it.
I am in control of my own actions and pubs are not that important to me in the great scheme of things when family and other things take priority.

Did the poll take into account people’s circumstances such as age and vulnerability level? I’m not arguing with you, those 30% could all be in the 20-35 age range.

"A poll published Friday from NPR, PBS NewsHour and Marist conducted Aug. 3-11 found that 35% of respondents said they would not receive a COVID-19 vaccine, 60% said they would and 5% are uncertain.

Men, at 64%, are more likely than women, at 56%, to say they would get a virus vaccine once one is developed. Eighteen- to 29-year-olds, as well as people 60 and older are the most likely age groups, with 66% saying that they would be willing to receive a vaccine. Americans aged 30 to 44 are least likely, with 43% saying they would not get a vaccine."

The worst part was you had people screaming for them to be open, crying about the welfare of the publicans who, despite having the opportunity to open while serving food, didn't do so. How were these people supposed to survive without them, their dedicated clientele, having regular gargle sessions...........

Then those same people went once and said "It was terrible. I had to wear a mask going to the toilet and, worst of all, there was..... SHOCK HORROR...... table service. I won't be going again".

    Spoofers!

The logic behind Level 5 is apparently so we can have a normal Christmas.

Hopefully that includes opening the pubs in a safe way, like how we had a couple of months ago. Bookings, social distancing etc.

Ain't gonna happen. After what happened over the summer publicans are simply going to write off the rest of the year.

We'll be doing well to see a pub again in 2020 :(

Yeah i think that's what we should get but we all know we wont because Pubs get the blame for the virus spreading

More likely these restrictions will be extended

And you should be angry. If it wasn't for people ignoring restrictions and "getting on with their lives", throwing house parties and rubbish about "not living under the bed" we wouldn't be in this mess. But there you go.

We can't open the pubs because these people exist and ruin it for the rest of us

I'm not anti-vax, and have had them before, but I won't be signing up for this as:

    a) I'm not in a group at risk from Covid (>0.3% chance of dying from it if infected). This would apply to the majority of people. Only the elderly and medically compromised 'need' to be vaccinated, if they choose to do so.

    b) Vaccinations require years of longer-term testing to confirm safety. This won't be the case here. I imagine this will be the biggest reason for non-uptake.
I thought it odd that you are being branded an anti-vaxer. I guess people have different definitions of what it means. To me its a conspiracy theorist type rather than someone like yourself. I know one of these clowns, goes on about Bill Gates planting mini micochips in the vaccine.

Having a reasoned legit concern about taking a brand new drug is not anti-drug in my mind. I will be taking it when it comes out but fully understand why people would be wary for legitimate reasons -rather than believing Bill Gates is literally the anti-christ and wants to implant chips in you. Or that there is some elite cabal is doing some sort of mind control or that on the whole that vaccines do more harm than good.

You say "anti-vax" as if it's some sort of label to be scared of :D Every individual has the right to consent. To flip your label, I would say big pharma love "pro-vaxers" like yourself. You'll be pleased to hear they're already suggesting you'll be requiring multiple doses. Nothing to do with money, obviously. You can have mine.

Elon Musk said he won't be taking the vax as he's also "not at risk from Covid". It's highly likely he knows more about it all than you, considering he's... er, Elon Musk. Maybe also the fact that he's in business with CureVac, one of the vaccine developers.

I'll side with Elon Musk over Noelle Long Page on this one. Good luck and good health to you, regardless.

    Hi Elon :)

Can I have one of you cars free please?

PS Elon Musk is a complete psycho nutjob. There is no doubt that he is a very intelligent person but he his skip-roping back and forth over the line between genius and madness.

So the young and the old are more likely to do their bit for society and get the vaccine. The middle aged more likely to be anti vaxers (by whatever name they call themselves).

Like I said earlier, the anti vaxers will all have terribly clever reasons why they won't get the vaccine. They're far too clever to be vaccinated - but don't call them anti-vaxers for their anti-covid vaccination stance.

Looks like back to level 3 restrictions for bars and restaurants come December according to Leo.

That's not even level 3, that's level 4 from the original plan. Level 3 was open inside "with additional restrictions".

(Then again, this is a man who doesn't even know what day this week's restrictions are coming. You can pretty much disregard everything that comes out of his mouth until somebody else confirms it.)

I've stopped listening to Varadkar, he talks out of both sides of his mouth.

Loves to get in first with any news ahead of the Taoiseach, plays all sides. It's all cynical PR and party politics.

Realistically if hotels, restaurants and pubs aren't allowed trade at Christmas, you are looking at hospitality industry being wiped out and economic devastation in that sector. Because they will likely get not much business in January and February even they survived.

There really is no point in such a harsh lockdown for 6 weeks if that is the plan. Because there won't be much more freedom under level 3.5 if that's the plan.

No point getting down about it until it's fully confirmed I suppose. But it would likely result in Christmas house parties.

The pubs will not be getting opened again until the new year.

    Get over it.

The gov decided months ago to throw publicans under the bus. I said it already that publicans and restauranteurs do not have a big enough lobby to influence the cabinet. Politicians are more than happy to sacrifice their livelihoods in exchange for votes. At the end of the day the general perception is that your average pub or restaurant owner is not short a few bob and will just have to suck it up. Staff cannot blame the gov either, although some will. The government are more anxious to avoid losing the conservative vote who are not that pushed on pubs regardless. It is a calculated sacrifice. For every vote you lose you gain one from the other side. Everything is polarised.

If that transpires as it's alleged in that tweet, it will be a devastating step too far. I expect every hospitality group/representative body will be lobbying the government hard on this issue - and with legitimate grounds to do so. If the government attempt to keep the hospitality sector closed over Christmas, there will not be one there in the new year. Ridicilous over the top, nanny-statism at it's finest worst.

Bizarrely, according to level 5 as it's currently written:

    - Pubs outside Dublin can do takeaway or delivery (drink)
    - Pubs in Dublin are closed
-Restaurants and food pubs (everywhere) can do "Take away food or delivery only." So a restaurant or pub that serves food can not do take away drink, with or without food.

    Great coherent planning there

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 9,078 ✭✭✭IAMAMORON

Unless you live across the road or upstairs this concept of take away pubs is complete nonsense. A lot less hassle to buy a few cans.

No Christmas Eve pints this year or a few pints watching the early premier league games on st Stephen’s day!

you've got to wonder how many of them will reopen after this or when they will actually get the go-ahead to open again.
This is the death knell for some many.
And why is ireland the only country where many pubs have been closed since march.
    Serious questions should be asked.
