The UK fined three students 10,000 pounds each for organising a party. That's a nice fine for students.

    Expensive party that.

Dublin still going steady (although we have had an increase in cases over the past 7 days, so.... should I say it.... the next 7 days are crucial!)

That's your opinion and I'm not going to try to change it. Have a pleasant evening.

It's not my opinion though, even when we were at our peak and hospitals were nearly filled with covid patients they still pleaded with anyone needing treatment for any illness to seek treatment.

Have the guards stand outside and issue fines when the party goers leave the house, should be enough to cover their overtime!

Restrictions will continue until country morale improves.

What restrictions. I don't see any restrictions. I see requests. Would you please wear a mask. Would you please stay in your county. The only restrictions are on business people trying to make a living who are being punished for the actions of a few stupid customers.

We need to actually go back to level 2 and actually try it this time. But with the addition of heavy fines for non adhering to rules like mask wearing, jail for organising a house party, fines for sports clubs that refuse to control their members. Riot squad deployed to disperse protests and ringleaders arrested. One weekend of that level 2 will suffice for the rest of the pandemic. If we don't do that then evel level 5 won't work.

I agree with your post but case's are everywhere, too little too late to go back two levels. All for that if we go up a level though. GAA should be heavily fined, clubs celebrations have led to several clusters that have spilled over into community and with cost businesses and the economy billions due to reckless behavior by members. The Inter-counties should be stopped, GAA board doesn't give a duck about others,
    just lining their pockets.

People are really going out of their way to say online learning can't work. They can't get online until after 5pm? I know broadband isn't great in parts of the country but in Dublin? I think your students im economically-rich area were lying to you.

Also majority of students have data, surely they can hotspot. There also exists option of recording lectures and facilitating playback if needs must. We're living through a pandemic, some people refuse to even imagine compromise when it comes to schools, rather astonishing.

Many families are doing well to have 2 laptops (being used by parents WFH) - add on average 3 school going kids and live streaming for 5 at one time. My own broadband was stuggling and i have since upgraded just in case! What are families in more working classes areas to do - not to mention rural areas? If we don't have equal access for all it does not work and is not fair and I will not be part of furthering inequalities in our society.

I know there's fines for not wearing a mask on transport (I believe they are added as part of the transport bylaws)
There was talk about fine for non mask wearing in shops etc... I'm not sure that was actually put into law. Jail for organizing a house party, I'm sure there's some bylaws about illegal raves etc.. that they can amend.
Riot squad deployed to disperse protests and ringleaders arrested... as much as I want to agree with you on that.... We can't go down that road.

He is a scientist though which is something that is relevant to Covid-19
According to Wikipedia he was an intern in Vincents for 1 year. Not exactly an experienced epidemiologist.

I’ve seen a tweet from the leader of the opposition Mary Lou McDonald which has a bang of making a very serious issue a place to score political points. Can all politicians just shut up and try to work as one(I know I might as well be asking for world peace) and not be trying to use this situation for politics. I take a dim view of that regardless of what party they are from.

What I have noticed is the lack or opposition voice is either the situation is a tinder box and they don't want to ignite it or they also don't have a bloody clue what they would do, so they keep quite.

That's why a survey needs to be done by each school and the data then fed back to DOE, who could, you know, do something about it. In those situations solutions can be provided, including offer to allow these students be on school premise.DOE can source laptops and then distribute to schools to give to students on a loan basis for those who can't afford it. Do a deal with likes of Dell. All schools should have a budget to buy IT equipment.. it's 2020. The solution to cram pack a bunch of 15 plus year olds into a small classroom when we have spiralling cases is not sustainable or safe from a public health perspective.

ETA: I'm proposing we do this until Christmas break and then review btw, not for whole school year. Have
slightly longer Christmas break if necessary and move exams to January and do on-site in the hall, at staggered times if possible. Hopefully we will be over the worst of the second wave then.

You seem like a really great teacher, who genuinely has your pupil’s interest at heart. You sound like a real asset to your school.

As I am in the classroom with those 15 plus year olds I know they will probably be Ok and I definitely know are mentally better off being together in school - do not under estimate how fragile our young people can be at that stage and who will see this if they are facing a computer screen?

The broad band plan (7 yrs long) has now been delayed by covid - laptops are useless without good broad band! Ironically our schoool has lots of new laptops and even in school our broadband cannot cope with 1/3 of school online at same time.

He is a scientist though which is something that is relevant to Covid-19

He’s not qualified in anything to do with viruses. He’s a statistician who happened to study medicine and was an intern for a year in a hospital.

Could you not do weekly check-ins with those students then, can even be 1-1 in school?

I can't comment on your own schools situation, but most schools should be able to cope with 1/3 of 3rd, 5th and 6th Years being online, if not DOE needs to help with that, make it priority.

Someone said on a local newspaper's Facebook page that the GAA wouldn't have gone ahead with matches at all if the government had not promised it money.

Lockdown didn't eliminate Covid on this island. So why would NPHET think a 6-week lockdown would eliminate it now?

Then what's the point of having a 6-week lockdown now?
