There is absolutely an agenda being driven by the media, in particular the propaganda machine that is RTE. If you listen to those actually in charge, they'll refer to the recent changes as "asks" or "advisory" but seconds later you'll have George Lee or one of his miserable colleagues refer to them as "bans". It's all a bit tabloid-esque and cheap headlines for me. I'm not sure why RTE is pushing the fear agenda or who is pushing them to do so.

Pat Kenny aside, Newstalk seem to take a very different angle.

Something to take note of about the house visit ban. It’s not all doom and gloom you can still visit people who live alone and includes ederly and the vulnerable. That’s good for people who have partners that live elsewhere alone. I think the whole thing is a judgement call rather than a ban.

A member of NPHET is married to an RTÉ journalist. There’s mutual benefits to both sides; NPHET look good and RTÉ make money from all the click bait articles, breaking news items, etc.

Don't think it is fair to blame RTE.

When you have the Govt. talking about asks and advising... and then you have the Gardi setting up check points every morning and looking to ensure everyone follows these 'asks and advice' I think it is more on the Govt. for not being straight with the people.

The politicians might being using nice words, but they are effectively bans - as that is how the state itself is treating them. RTE are just reporting on the reality of the Govt. actions, rather than there words.

George Lee is doing OK out of it too. Front and centre of the 6-1 news every night. Before all this happened he was reporting on the the likes of the young scientist exhibition or the ploughing championship. All the important stuff...

I'm being facetious of course but I do sense a lot of self interest in much of the media reporting.

It's a symbiotic relationship in my opinion.

    No sorry. Doesn't add up.

The median age of death seems to be 84. We only have x amount of people in that age bracket anyway. So even if Covid in a worst case scenario was an outright killer, there would be a limit of way south of that crazy 200k wild imaginary figure.

And Covid remember is far from an outright killer. 4/5 of everyone infected in our nursing homes did not die. I mean how deadly is a disease that requires a test to know whether you have it! The mass graves thing was just hype. There are none in Stockholm.

Yep, the median age of of those died from this outright killer is two years higher than the current average life expectancy.

Interesting talking with the owner of a local nursing home recently.

Still extremely grateful he took my mother in a few years ago and his staff called me a few hours before she passed away so I could be there, feel sorry for anyone in the same situation now as with these ridiculous restrictions that could not happen.

Has had NO deaths from covid. But from October to Christmas last year they had ten deaths from flu, not a word about it.

That’s George for you. I read somewhere where minister McGrath did point out it’s not a ‘ban’ more down to judgement calls and ultimately down to a persons individual decision.

I think we're going to be stuck in level 3 for a long time, I never realised they didn't publish a way to get out of it. :(

should have read my posts then,
been crying about no exit strategy or exit criteria regarding this Level 5 - level 1 from the day it was published.

    nobody listened :(
too busy shaming their fellow irish citizen into compliance

Yeah he was on Prime Time last night, I was impressed with him. Comes across with far more empathy and clarity than some of his more prominent colleagues.

Living alone is not in its self an exemption it’s only if you are providing care for someone living alone.

Is there going to be any sort of announcements this evening, does anyone know?

I'm nervous they will move us up a level and I'll lose going to the gym... It was the only thing keeping me sane in this seemingly endless Work-Eat-Sleep-Repeat cycle.

Living alone is living alone, it’s to prevent loneliness, you ever hear of that word?I wouldn’t expect you to feel any empathy toward that situation so your replies to my post mean absolute zilch. My partner of 10 years lives alone and i will be visiting her with precautions full stop. As mcGrath has said it’s not a “ban”.

Dr Glynn has also said they are looking into the possiblity of ‘social bubbles’

Well there isn't a cabinet meeting scheduled so probably not.

If you’re in Dublin I’d say there’s a good chance of more restrictions since level 3 doesn’t seem to be having the desired effect. Maybe no announcement until next week though.

They'll do nothing until after the Bank Holiday, numbers are high but ICU was down by 1 this morning I think.
Things are looking ok but it's very early to tell.

I think it'll be just before the bank holiday to lock things down pre mid term.
They ruined every BH weekend since march with announcing just before

Claire Byrne had some doctor on the radio earlier talking about hospital capacity etc. She was pushing him for the most dire prognosis at every turn, she didnt like when he started talking about the other negative impacts of lockdown on metal health etc and wanted him to condemn the government for daring not to follow NPHET to the letter. A really sick mentality coming over the airwaves, i lost some respect for her there.

They won't close the schools, everything were doing now is for the schools, hospitals are ok. The won't close more businesses as the don't want to compensate them they'd rather then stumbled on making a loss which will close them anyway.

Indo says NPHET are recommending level 5 nationally for 6 weeks!!
Level five restrictions should be introduced for the entire country for six weeks, the National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) has recommended .

The public health group led by Chief Medical Officer has called for the highest level of Covid-19 restriction as fears grow about the spread of the virus.

Level five restrictions would see people banned from traveling further than 5km from their home, no public gatherings other than small funerals or weddings would be permitted and pubs and restaurants would only be allowed to provide delivery or takeaway service.

NPHET are only looking at this though a very narrow lens - as is their remit. It is the Government who needs to make the final call

However this nonsense of the press getting wind and plastering it over the web/apps before the Government meets to discuss it has to end. It only causes more fear and hysteria and furthers the narrative that the tail is wagging the dog.

It's the indo trying to be sensationalist.

Here's hoping it won't be the modus operandi for the press in the near future.
