It is a contributing factor. Half of deaths in most countries are outside of care homes so not the only factor

Its pretty major, 0.5% of the country are in care homes but accounted for 62% of all deaths. In Canada it was 82%.

    Have a read
    https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7252012/

What this virus does is not atypical of other coronavirus strains, just more severe effects are more frequent. We hear a common cold and assume sniffles, but these are more common with Rhinovirus and others. Coronavirues that cause the common cold tend to result in coughs, fevers, bronchitis and in severe cases pneumonia. There is no reason to think these viruses were not just as serious as SARS-CoV-2 when they first emerged in humans.

    Fabulous read thank you.

Only 130 years to wait for it to become milder :)

Are they really looking at curtailing off licences? I mean ffs, that's a bit too much nannying for my liking.
Having rejected NPHET they need to look like the gloves are off completely. If that's a 3-6 week event and we don't end up going to Level 4 and beyond then it's a measure they might seriously look at. It's all about tweaking and seeing what works.

So my partner, who is a health worker based in a rehab clinic, has now found out one of the patients she's had close contact with has covid. The particular patient always had her mask down under her nose no matter how much she was corrected. My partner is also pregnant, while I have an underlying health condition that under normal circumstances would do nothing to stop me living another 40-50 years. This is the nightmare scenario we've worried about, a knock on from all the selfish ***** out there who don't give two ****s how many lives they destroy.

Hopefully it doesn't turn out too bad for any of us and my son gets to be born healthy to two healthy parents and I live to see him grow up.

624 positive swabs from 14,407 tests. 4.33% positivity

We can expect this and more for the next 18 days at least.

What can you do? You have to be 2 metres apart if you are not from the same household

You were allowed to go have a drink / lunch with a friend over the last couple of months. It's what helped spread the virus but you could do it?

Yes, expect rest of country to continue rising. Key number to watch is Dublin I think.

Maybe they need to nanny and tell people what to do rather then suggesting as people are not doing it. I have a 45 year old friend who has had a triple bypass last year and has diabetes and is scared s"£^&"ss to go out not because he is not doing everything to stay safe but because it looks like others aren't.

This its the young shouldn't they be allowed to go out and be young well you can still do that but be extra careful

Absolutely. Dublin numbers will show if this has a chance of working

Exactly. Do they not think anyone going to a house party can't just plan ahead and buy their sauce earlier in the day.

Same as bringing the pub closing time an hour earlier. People just drink more in shorter space of time.

Sorry I can't find it now, it was along the lines of additional enforcement for Garda will be also discussed Friday by after NPHET.

Maybe but some of those tests today will become the backlog for tomorrow! I suppose it'll be in or around 500 cases.

    Dublin's numbers are stabilising.

But will stabilising the country nationally at around 500 cases a day be enough to prevent over run of ICU and hospitals? That's the big question. If we need reduction of cases, regrettably we may have to move up levels. I don't want that, no right minded person does.

We had times when practically everyting (except schools and pubs) were open and the daily numbers were single digits, hell were even better then when in lockdown so I don't get its the line its because everything is opening up.

I also say its not the pubs or schools fault as figures were getting crazy before this. Though I did hear from someone of a GAA club who one a county final brought the cup into a pub filled it with bear and allowed everyone to drink out of it

I expect cases hell 100 to 200 but it is way too high. If things keep going this way then hospitals will be closed for other ailments that really need it and we can't let that happen again

Good to see an increase in testing (6 days since we hit the 14k mark)

Doesn't make much sense as a solution as it only increases how many people are in the offy at any one time if there's less time to access it. But the only way we avoid a nanny state during a pandemic is if people stop acting like anything other than laws (ie guidelines etc) are just ignorable.
