Getting the excuses in early. I believe him. Thousands wouldn't but I do.

It was a despicable question from the journalist to be honest

To those saying there will be a lag of weeks due to the increased number of cases, why wasnt there in, say the UK, the first time around?

If anything deaths peaked before cases

Sinn Fein are doing a really bad job.

its incredible how politicans everywhere can be blamed for the spread of an infectious disease. can people take no personal responsibility these days?

I think they are saying they'd like an all Ireland approach.
Remember we don't have a border so this thing tends to migrate.

Fair point. Not sure how it would work politically, but an all Ireland approach is definitely a wise move for somewhat controlling this.

Mate of mine in Donegal says it's a free for all of folk coming over from Derry/Strabane etc....It's a wonder how level 3 slowed their growth rate down at all!

The House of Commons and DUP have come out this afternoon to say that they now support a united Ireland and will be handing the keys over to Micheál today.

    Give NI to Iceland.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth house?

Because vulnerable people did not protect themselves first time round.Deaths apparently peaked before cases first time round as we only started testing enmass when large numbers of deaths started occurring.

There is an undeniable lag of several weeks between cases and deaths, observed in the southern USA, Spain, France

"They" are the NI Health Executive.

They can favour an all-island approach until the cows come home, but until we can control travel between NI and GB, then an all-island approach is a no-goer.

And there is no chance that the Unionists will allow quarantine periods for people travelling between NI and GB. And on the off chance that they do, I expect London will veto them. Sovereignty and all that.

How do you explain to young people in particular that they can never make new friends or form new relationships, nor can they take part in normal sporting or cultural activities.
It can’t work and it won’t work.

This exactly. I have not seen any of my friends since March. Have enough now.

I’m 29 and want to put myself on the dating scene before it’s too late as well

Actually it was more a case of the virus rampant in the community and getting into care homes.

Any word on whether there's a NPHET briefing as usual this evening?

Cases peaked before deaths. They just weren't testing and therefore weren't recording them.

    Give NI to Iceland.

What have Iceland done to deserve that faith?

It is a contributing factor. Half of deaths in most countries are outside of care homes so not the only factor

I'm seeing and hearing so many people suggesting a circuit breaker before Christmas so we can all eat, drink and be merry over the festive season. That would be a huge waste of a lockdown IMO.

It would mean people going straight from a lockdown to doing everything we've learned gives oxygen to Covid's accelerated spread. We could quite possibly end back in the same or worse situation for the rest of winter into spring.

Which is why I don't believe in lockdowns, its kicking it down the road and we go carefree when its lifted and head back to the same trajectory. A always on alert living with approach is better but we can't drop our guard.

Unless you can reschedule it, I'd say yes. Maybe have proof with you.

Unbelievable, fairly sure they'll all be waved through

Was similar in Galway this morning on the M6. Luckily enough I was working from home today, but some people I work with were stuck for over an hour who were essential workers, who needed to be onsite, and got serious hassle at the checkpoints about their reason for going to work.

Yup know of nurses and doctors who were very late this morning because of checkpoints.

People still need to go about their business, be it going to work, school or appointments. This only serves to annoy them

There is nothing stopping them closing bars/restaurants in the North. Baffling at how little action they are taking.

Just thought Id be the first to say this..

...the numbers are late today (see thread in 3 hours)

Was thinking this. The only people this really affects is the people that have a genuine reason. The people without a genuine reason are inconvenienced but can probably factor that inconvenience in.

Are they really looking at curtailing off licences? I mean ffs, that's a bit too much nannying for my liking.

You think they were just stopping nurses and doctors and that caused the tail backs? Seriously?
