Dear Santa.....this year we've been a very good country in a difficult year. For Christmas we would like a bank holiday, a surprise and a selection box? I promise to make an effort to be really really good. Thank you, Ireland.

So then this bank holiday idea. Many businesses are already pushed to the pin of their collar and now they're supposed to pony up for everyone to take a day off.

Anyone who needs to be explained to as to why NPHET had to be overruled today should question their outlook on the current situation.
It is absolutely unacceptable that an unelected body of doctors convene an unannounced meeting on a Sunday, then leak to the press re their recommendations which haven't yet been ran passed the elected Government. All the while failing to appear before our elected TD's at the Oireachtas Committee until forced to last week and actually provide some data as to the reasoning for their recommendations.
Level 5 would finish the economy, jobs, healthcare, futures. Zero Covid is unachievable and NPHET should be disbanded as a matter of urgency and replaced with a body of doctors with wider views on how we proceed. This body should also include experts from other areas of our economy and society to help mitigate and offset future actions that may need to be taken.
Any business that is capable of following current guidelines re distancing, masks, time limits, etc., should be allowed to stay open with an information campaign rolled out for the Winter for those who are at greater risk of severe symptoms of Covid.

I'm hearing the government leaked the letter first not NPHET hoping to get the country on side for rejecting the proposal

Leo is going to be on Claire Byrne live later to answer questions.

    Where the feck is Mehole?

It would be hilarious if he criticises the disregard for the advice given.

Try to get the public onside with the carrot of a bank holiday at Christmas. Pathetic really

Really? I recall reading several posts on this forum from people who were calling for the authorities to create extra bank holidays to make up for St Patrick`s Day and the Easter and May bank holidays when the country was at the height of restrictions. Now they may be given what they wanted in December.

Random enough but good idea. Should be yearly tbh https://twitter.com/gavreilly/status/1313182054989869057?s=19

Bastards better pay self employed people for it instead.

Never has so much money been spent on so few beds. How do other countries, who spend less per capita manage it?

What is the purpose in this? It is hardly as obvious as it looks.

Bank Holidays mean fook all under current circumstances anyway. Had a rake of them in April and May which were no use. At the time , I wished I was back working.

    Same here. Easter was horrid

If business gets to stay open until year end instead of level 5 they will not mind an additional public holiday come December. Should be linked to our Celtic roots.

And all the retail stores will end up paying time and a half for long hours.

Why didn't the government get out ahead of this by augmenting staff numbers, hospital bedstead repaid testing.

We all knew a second wave would happen near winter but they just say there with their thumb up their arse

So there we have it. As of midnight tonight we become the only country in Europe, possibly the world with a blanket ban on indoor dining. 180,000 jobs gone in the space of a few hours. Massive over reaction yet again. But hey, at least we have an extra bank holiday this year.

Absolutely uncalled for, reported  my comments regarding schools come from working in a school, what do you work as? Education is of incredible importance but it is not more important than people's safety.

Apologies if I caused offence. Will have to agree to disagree but I am sorry if my post was offensive.
