People go to house parties, then they go to work, then they meet friends for lunch, then they go to the gym.

Stage 5 will cut out many of the scenarios where the virus can spread. Though keeping schools open will more than likely render it pointless too.
Level 3 cuts them out too though. Work is wfh unless essential - much like Level 3.
Cafés/restaurants can only serve outdoors at best, so little difference there.
Social gatherings are prohibited, so they can't meet elsewhere.
Gym classes are prohibited under Level 3 too, so again not huge difference.

The extras in Level 4/5 I just don't see covering much more that's not there already, especially if there's schools and no enforcement of the above (particularly around gatherings). They're the real nub and none of the plan really tackles it.

Moving from level 2 to level 5 may only be the stroke of the pen for the likes of NPHET but it means putting tens of thousands on the dole, businesses ruined perhaps permanently and weddings and the like also ruined. And all because the HSE and particularly NPHET had no plans to increase ICU capacity.

This is where there focus should be, not on lockdowns.
It is the government's responsibility to increase ICU capacity

While I am glad we (hopefully) aren't moving into Level 5 as we do not have a concrete plan again....does that not mean that all along when the government is telling us "sorry but the health experts tell us this must be so, how dare anyone question the health experts" they were talking completely out of their ass?

Biggest joke of a government ever elected.

Didn't NPHET recommend level 4 for Dublin a few weeks ago but the government rejected?

    Smyths toys website:
Our Home Delivery service is temporarily unavailable.
This is to allow us to manage the unexpected surge in orders today. We have good levels of stock with more arriving each week so please don't worry. We will be back online shortly.

If someone had to choose between businesses getting to stay open and attempting to reduce contacts of people or people allowed to have house parties cos of constitutional rights, the people who choose the latter are idiots imo.

Its NPHET's responsibility as those running national public health strategy to request more resources and provide a plan.

Its then the governments role to provide finances.

At this stage it feels like someone deciding to shutdown their workplace rather than do a bit of work. Get the finger out, increase hospital and ICU capacity. Do your job.

Our Health Minister gone quite, any thing also from Paul Reid of HSE?

So a bunch of non-medical suits have ignored doctors orders on our behalf?

    Sounds great.

“Elsewhere this afternoon, the GAA announced it had suspended all games with immediate effect. A statement released to clubs says that the association has taken this decision following “a number of incidents” in relation to post-match celebrations and “a lack of social distancing” at recent games.”

You know things is fûcked up when the GAA come out criticizing their own. That just never happens.

The HSE wasn't even consulted. Jesus Christ.

List of HSE members who make up NPHET.
Dr Colm Henry – Chief Clinical Officer, HSE

Dr. Lorraine Doherty – National Clinical Director for Health Protection, HPSC, HSE

Dr John Cuddihy – Interim Director, Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC)

Dr Kevin Kelleher – Asst. National Director, Public Health, HSE

Mr David Leach – Deputy National Director of Communications, HSE

Dr Michael Power – National Clinical Lead, Critical Care Programme, HSE Consultant in Anaesthetics / Intensive Care Medicine, Beaumont Hospital

Dr Breda Smyth – Director of Public Health Medicine, HSE

Mr David Walsh – National Director, Community Operations, HSE

Mr Liam Woods – National Director, Acute Operations, HSE

To suggest they weren't consulted is pretty hilarious.

616 cases in the North again today, no deaths. Deaths remaining low there despite the large case load

UK now seeing 378 COVID hospitalisations per day vs 3000 per day at April peak

I don't get why people are mocking the toy store situation. We've people crying that the economy is ruined and then when people actually start spending they're labeled as fools. Can't win in this country.

No, it's the HSE's. The government just gives them the money.

    Yes.

    Level 3

Restaurants and cafes (including bars/pubs serving food) may remain open for take-away and delivery and outdoor dining to a maximum of 15 people.

The wording on that has changed a bit. Between so many graphics around and then what's on GOV.ie.

"Up to and including no indoor dining"

Maybe the case on some, but in Limerick, cork & Galway student accommodation is full and plenty big house parties on going

But are any of these students clogging up the ICUs? And before you say "Bring it home to vulnerable people"... they haven't gone home yet.

I don't disagree, but I'm talking in the context of groups of people who have invented vague "Constitutional rights" in their heads which are unlikely to hold up in court.

If we have to shut down a sporting club or pub using public health laws, let's do that. It'll be 12 to 18 months by the time it has gone through the courts, if they really want to take it that far. Similarly let's fine home-owners who have house parties now in breach of our public health laws.

Look up Nphet members. A fair number of them have no medical training and are non clinicians. Only 2 would be considered infectious disease experts.

Most have responsibility for resources in public health. Instead of requesting more resources months ago for an obvious second wave, they requested nothing. Now they've been caught out and they opt for the nuclear option.

Without the meeting minutes you have no idea whether the HSE was present or not.

That's actually quite a shocking thing to occur in a democracy.

Yes and no. It kind of shows that they are just saying it how it is (how they feel it is) it appears they are happy to side line everyone and just say what needs to be done to deal with the virus.

Ok well this day become a defining day in the history of Ireland ....the day three Political Parties signed their own death warrants ...how will the electorate feel as we live through the next few months haunted by the suspicion some things could have been avoided
