The question was clearly answered at the time they posted. If you're confused, you should go back to review instead of badgering Blondini.

In fairness, I don’t think the question was answered by blondoni. If I’ve missed the answer perhaps you could show where the question was answered?

It may come as a surprise to you to learn that the virus is dangerous in hospitals, nursing homes, supermarkets , restaurants, pubs, churches and lots of other places. Even walking down the street it can be dangerous.

I can’t understand why you would imagine schools would be different.

the major difference between all of those places and schools is that they have extremely strict policies and procedures put in place (and policed by the gardai) to cut numbers/visitors down on top of many of them (hospitals etc.) being given medical grade PPE gear to protect their employees.
So yes they are in danger from the virus, but the have mitigated the level of danger, schools have put some fancy posters around, partial mask policy, no number restrictions (the biggest issue), dwindling sanitiser and wipes, shared equipment that we trust children to deep clean after use on top of so many other glaringly obvious issues.

but you know all this and are just looking to antagonise a group of people that have a genuine and real fear for themselves and those they care about (including students)

The whole '48 hour rule' when it comes to close contacts in school is an utter farce.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 840 ✭✭✭teachinggal123

Anyone watching MM just now? Did he just imply that schools could close again if the situation gets worse?

Edit - I think he said “this is how we’ll keep our schools open” but may have misheard. Anyone know what he meant?

    About 200

    Here's the famous riddle.

    Really complicated.

School count = count of how many schools or how many cases in schools if you want

    Answer is about 200.

Really hard to get I know.

Yes, I heard him. I would think that he is adopting a "carrot and stick" approach.

I know that they have Schools listed as remaining open in all 5 Levels but I believe that they will close if we get to Level 5 and I believe that if our hospitals become overrun that they will also close. Just my opinion.

Level 5 advice for schools changed last week. Now something along the lines that local numbers will dictate what occurs.

Certainly missed the answer a few posts above but then again some posters don't want the answer.

Yes. I don't know the name, but a close friend who has a younger kid in the school with mine has an older daughter who lives with her mum there and apparently it was a small outbreak. I believe the class was all sent home.

That list isn't in anyway comprehensive. I am aware of schools with cases that aren't on it.

The admins rely on people sending them copies of the texts from school or the HSE letters.

What have the teachers done, apart from teachinggal who earlier in the thread admitting to not doing anything once schools letout, to deserve any "questioning?"

For a start, threatening to go on strike to exploit a pandemic for more money?

    It wasn’t.

Unless you define more sneering condescion from veteran educators as an answer.

Have a look at a replay of the gen sec of Asti last night on tv saying that more money was part of their demands.

So in your eyes this is a quote claiming "all teachers worked during the lockdown".
At this stage I pity you.

    Post reported for insulting me

By the way the buildings closed but the teachers continued working. If you did not get the service you felt you required take it up with principal, as the school is now open. THere is a distinct difference between closed buildings and schools being off, if this needs further explanation I can explain how holidays work

There is a significant difference between number of schools and number of cases in schools.

So it’s not what I want, nor indeed what you want.

    So which is it?

    Or do you know?

Or is this more teachers trying to close the schools nonsense?

The quote says “teachers continued working”.

Do you mean SOME teachers continued working?

Equally you cannot assume that the quote means all. It says teachers were working. That is true thete were teacgers working. The quote doesn't qualify the quantity.

The exact quotes are "teachers continued working" and "teachers are working their asses off". What does that mean to you? There are also a huge amount of other posts saying all teachers worked during lockdown.

People can make up their own minds about what the posts mean. To me it seems perfectly clear.

I know of one school that were down 11 staff members today because of Covid related absences. I know of another school that had no cleaning staff for the same reason.
    Crisis? What crisis Comical Willy?

Looking for thoughts on the following

Whats app sent out to staff today about possibly taking all classes to the local farm shop the day of midterm. Obviously subject to there being no local lockdown in place. Each class will go at separate times to pick pumpkins. No thought given to the fact it will probably be indoors so children from 3rd to 6th are supposed to be socially distant. All classes are supposed to only be mixing with their own pods. Does anyone else think this is madness?
