What did the LVA mean when they said 'that business should be shut down immediately, it is not a pub and does not hold a pub licence'? Are they really saying that all blame lies solely on the event company or was it not part of a licenced premises?

Apparently the establishment does not have a liquor licence. If true talk about a nightmare for the pub industry on the day of the launch of the we don't want sympathy campaign.

If that is true about the license I think the fine is up to a maximum of 50K, although I doubt they would be fined the maximum unless they are to be made an example of.

Is the footage any worse than a GAA match of Football or Hurling, hundreds of them going on all over the country today.
Yes it's stupid behaviour and wrecklees what went on there, but a lot of stuff allowed to be done is the same.

An overblown and ultimately meaningless gesture in response to a viral video would fit quite well with this countries Covid response as a whole.

The LVA are hair-splitting to try and create a deflection.

It has a Publicans Ordinary (Theatre) licence which requires there to be a 'performance' when operating but otherwise is a pub. There are plenty of pubs in Dublin which have this. RIOT on the quays, the Wild Duck in Temple Bar, Barts on South William Street, Ukiyo on Exchequer Street, etc, etc.

The LVA are trying to claim that only a place with the standard Publicans 7-Day Ordinary licence is a "a pub", yet one of their committee members is a hotelier, and a recent winner of an Irish Pub Awards category was also a hotel - these have yet another category of licence.... so they aren't consistent there

Basically, it has a pub category licence and operates as a pub - so it is a pub. The old looks like a duck thing comes to mind.

Already apologised twice for the mistake.

On the contrary it would be entirely appropriate and very meaningful as a warning of what may happen to those who engage in reckless behaviour.

Why not fully think it through before posting.

have any of the holier than thou brigade actually watched the footage? or are they as usual going by the second rate clickbait journalism that is far too prevalent these days?

I've looked at four different clips. it seems to be mostly outside, there a fairly small crowd, many are wearing masks and some are a little jolly.

Certainly not the "overcrowded mayhem" that some foolish "we'll believe any sh1te someone says in a clickbait gutter rag or twitter" are going on about.

OK, not ideal, but certainly does not deserve the faux "outrage" of the snowflakes

Doubt you'd see Davy Fitz getting supporters to slug from a bottle of tequila over the barrier, or two camogie players get off with each other after slugging a shot.

You’re in a minority in a big way.

    A little jolly???
Swinging off a bar dishing out shots to anyone who wanted it, is a bit more than a little jolly.

Don't open them up then. We can spiral further into recession and all be safe and sound in our bubbles.

I was in the pub the other night and all the auld fellas were in there and there was no social distancing going on. They were huddling over talking to mates in other tables, pulling up beside others. We have football matches going on in the League of Ireland. Do they need to be going on? No. The virus doesn't know how people are acting. It will spread where it spreads.

But he used terms like "brigade", "snowflakes", "faux outrage", etc, etc. All that was missing was "fake news". He must be right when using terms like that.

    Was in Berlin d2 once

It was maybe 18 months ago

I walked through it on a sat night

Mad house is how I would describe it. Drug taking, v v drunk ppl etc

Looks like the chickens have come home to rost

    Jay Burke apparently runs it

He denied all to RTÉ earlier but has since said he’s absolutely mortified at the video
Is that Jay Bourke? I think he was banned from being a company director after running a few other places into the ground....I wonder what his involvement is

Yes. Still disbarred til 2024 unless there was an appeal that wasn't reported. Which would be unlikely.

I am guessing you can still own a company and not be a company director?

I'm not saying it's the case in this situation but under Company Law a Director includes the concept of a de facto director I. E. A director in everything but name. If a person owns a company and is involved in management/running of that company, they would normally be considered de facto director which is illegal if disqualified as a director.

Yes, but its rather difficult to show that you aren't effectively controlling a director/directors in that case.

    Not surprised by it.

I was at my local in North Kildare last night sitting in the smoking area with my meal and pint (Not allowed indoor dining due to LOKdown).
Anyway at a big table near me there was also a 21st in full swing, hugging kissing and jumping all over each other.
Point is, I think after all this time the teens and twenty-somethings are just going to behave this way when they meet up and narcotics are mixed in. Means we are way off having the pubs open for the benefit of boring older folk like me....

Those young people are going to do this stuff anyway, know some younger people in my job and they have stories about there mates being at 50-100 people house parties.
Keeping the pubs closed does nothing for this at all, and teens and 20 something's (girls at least( are going to act that way even without drink or drugs.
In terms of the Berlin event- is that video it cos it looks like about 10-15 people? Not great but if that's all I think people are more pissed off with the imagery rather than anything else. And I think Berlin is a sh-thole after being their before so not defending it for any soft spot.

It's funny how the pubs have to stay closed at this stage but the meat processing plants who have caused the massive spike are getting away with a massive spike. Another simple thing to do even if the meat plants are staying open is ban anyone who is in shared accommodation from working for now.

If two camóige players are going off with each other the pubs or GAA won't stop that.
But that wasn't my point. Probably 10000 + lads and lassies banging limbs and swapping breaths with each other today without aera sexual thought in their heads.

Are you saying that GAA matches have 5 times the permitted amount? Has this been reported anywhere? As for banging limbs, what) craziness is happening. Never was banging limbs at any hurling match in my life. Is it both arms and legs?
