Makes me wonder if so many of the employees are out sick with covid then how do they even have enough workers to open the factory so fast? I havnt seen any jobs advertised

Wouldn’t even surprise me if they were fLying them in from some Eastern European country like keelings without doing the 14 day quarantine.

There may well be areas in the plants with no cases. Some employees will have been on holidays. Also, this dismantled just start in the last couple of days, some people will already have been tested and isolated for 14 days.

Those masks proving a rip roaring success aren’t they
Yep. Because community transmission is still very low.

Even lower before masks became prevalent :)
I believe masks have their value in very crowded confined spaces, including busy public transport, but not convinced that wearing them in reasonably spaced out shops and supermarkets isn't allowing their misuse to become more dangerous than their absence.
It's clear as other posters have said, that many are putting on/off/on/off masks and pulling down from the nose and itching noses and eyes, and likely increasing the risk to themselves whatever about protecting others.

Is MM due to make a speech?

Rte one live on YouTube the past hour under the title "Statement by taoiseach Micheal Martin on covid 19" . But its actually the Saturday evening movie they are showing. It's not a great movie either

The next time that happens in the same manner as last night it will be a national lockdown.

The big jump today was signposted yesterday. Expect more of the same for the next few days, it will get worse before it gets better.

What's the point of friggin masks, if they were any use there wouldn't be any need for a national lockdown.

Are all cases in workers working in Kildare assigned to Kildare or if you work in Kildare and live elsewhere, is that case assigned to your county of residence?

Hard to believe so many still struggle with the difference between community transmission cases v cluster outbreaks cases or close contacts cases from those clusters.

You’re dying for a national lockdown aren’t you? Loving the drama? Why should the rest of the country be locked down with low cases? On your bike.....

I saw someone take off their mask, turn it around and put it back on.

The WHO have said the same as yourself, but try telling that to the pro-mask lunatics on here...

It's reassuring that the vast majority of cases can be traced back to known clusters, but the bigger and bigger the clusters get the less reassured I feel.

Hard to believe that so many people don’t realise that the numbers are a product of ...

    The mechanics of transmission
    The politics of the day
    The managing of public perception

    = bingo

There needs to be an education campaign on how to use masks but there still hasn't been anything. Make masks mandatory in retail and on public transport as if the problem will just go away. They need to educate people and make them mandatory in all settings.

It will eventually get around to every workplace. Isn't it reassuring that it can all be traced?

There's a big difference between grabbing a pint of milk in centra than wandering around Tesco for a hour.
They shouldn't be mandatory in all settings as they are a danger to everyone if being used incorrectly which they are. People are going into shops and putting them on inside after pulling them out of their pocket, that's redicilous carry on.

Extra 10,000 dementia deaths in England and Wales in April
There were almost 10,000 unexplained extra deaths among people with dementia in England and Wales in April, according to official figures that have prompted alarm about the severe impact of social isolation on people with the condition.

The data, from the Office for National Statistics, reveals that, beyond deaths directly linked to Covid-19, there were 83% more deaths from dementia than usual in April, with charities warning that a reduction in essential medical care and family visits were taking a devastating toll.

What's worrying is that workers were taking paracetamol and whatever to suppress their symptoms, this was being discussed back in July by the oireachtas and in the papers back in May. If they are doing that do you think they care if they spread it in the community.

If they were taking paracetamol we're they truly asymptomatic.

Theres so many people here clinging onto large asymptomatic spread within the population, that's there's people walking around with this virus and they are all doing great and it's just a little cold. If these workers were taking paracetamol to hide some high temperature readings, were they truly asymptomatic? It doesn't bode too well for self isolation, doing the right thing for the greater good and for community transmissions.

The clusters getting bigger means the virus is spreading and people are still getting infected. The only difference is they know where it's spreading from and even then they will never be able to trace everywhere those known infected have been

Absolutely not however I am pissed off that people still can not comprehend why these restrictions were imposed.

It is a serious situation and always has been.
