Easy to see how it escalates from 80 in Brady's ham I know a guy who works there who tested positive now his whole family of 6 have tested positive that's from 1 case

    was he actually sick?

The NPHET letter yesterday said that cases per 100000 nationally were 9.6 but in Kilare and Laois it was over 61 and 46 in Offaly

Glynn says that most relate to clusters so that is positive.

But all the testing is going into them atm. The rest of the country will probably see an increase now the clusters are too big to control.

Only 300 test today across Laois,Offaly & Kildare. Not enough.

Schools probably wont open this will now probably take 4-8 weeks months of lockdown to control now.
300 at the new testing centres - mass testing is not conducted at these centres.

They keep addressing the population like children, it's the bloody meat factories need the schooling.

With the way some people behave, they might as well dumb it down as much as possible.

Boycott Brady Family Ham, absolute disgrace. The business community of Kildare should sue them for every cent lost in the next 2 weeks. What a **** show.

Local politicians in Laois Offaly complaining how businesses in the area are being discriminated against by having different restrictions imposed to the rest of the country

Laois had only 5 cases the last two days if cases remain that low they should be taken out of lockdown.

The Kildare Chilling one is now bigger than the Timahoe plant as far as I know

Is that the big plant on the right hand side I f you were driving from Kildare to Newbridge? Almost beside the Curragh?

If it's Kildare today I think its only a matter of days before Laois and Offaly see a big increase

Looking beyond the headline numbers that the doom merchants and fear mongers love, it'll be interesting to see how many people who've tested positive are asymptomatic or have very mild symptoms, and how few if any end up in hospital.

It's disappointing to see a rise in cases after the heavy promotion of mask wearing at the expense of good hygiene and social distancing.

Any word on hospital numbers? Are these people actually sick, how many asymptomatic?

These are clusters with little community transmission. Wise move by government to try and isolate these cases and not allow the China virus to spread around Ireland again.

Get it under control and we can move forward again as we were.

They should release the % that are asymptomatic. It’ll help to see how mass outbreaks in the younger communities happen

Total of 10 people in hospital as of 8 pm last night. None of them in hospitals in Laois, Offaly or Kildare.

Corrected: Original reply gave Thursday night’s figure of 12 but figure was 10 by Friday night.

Yep. Because community transmission is still very low.

They know who got tested positive and who got hospitalised, but most people recover at home - there's no way of gathering statistics on what kind of symptoms those people had, if any.

Some of the green list countries may actually ban us from travelling to them.

    Genuine question, why?

I don't know how people are so optimistic, the testers seem to be two weeks behind, expect this number to double in the next 2 weeks. The only positive I see is that is looks to be only factories at the moment but what's going to happen when we have 1000s of students all packed together? It's mayhem

Were the meat factory workers wearing masks?

Do we know Brady’s had no controls in place, or were some workers bypassing of ignoring controls? It’s an important question

Won't be buying it anymore. Same goes for Carroll's.

You won't be buying most of the cold meat on shelves so. Those factories do more than just Bradys and Carrolls.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,759 ✭✭✭✭ACitizenErased

    Genuine question, why?
Because there were meat factory outbreaks in those counties too. One company, Kildare Chilling, accounts for 70 of today's cases according to RTE.

As our infection rate is now higher it should see new countries added
