Varadkar was full of it. Sniggering and laughing as he read out grim death stats. No thanks.

Ah here. You don’t have to like the guy, that’s absolutely fine. But it’s also pretty unfair to say he was laughing and sniggering at numbers of people dying.

He openly said the worst part of every day for him was the updates in the evening bringing the news of how many new cases and deaths were reported that day. On at least two other occasions he stressed that it was important that people not get too desensitised and just see the day’s numbers as numbers, that it was important to remember they represented real people who were sick and who had died, and families and friends that were grieving the loss of loved ones.

Leo definitely didn’t handle covid perfectly, he and his government most certainly made mistakes. And the Mean Girls quote, though I don’t believe it came from any bad place, was probably not his best idea. But it’s going way too far to say he laughed at people dying.

I’m really sorry to hear that you’re struggling with worry over vulnerable family though. It’s a very tough time for people in that position, but also equally tough for the people who love them.

Healthcare workers, travel and those under investigation.

CMO said they've likely been fully traced just not included in the stats by the time the press release is published.

Do you know whether the category of "nosocomial" infections includes healthcare workers infected at work?

Yeah they do I think. That means they picked it up in a hospital environment.

31 cases not associated with a known outbreak and not close contact of a confirmed case is a lot. What is the source of these cases?

Letting tourists come in from countries that are riddled and letting them on their merry way.

Only 3% got a follow up call out of 130,000 tourists who arrived.

Just to follow up on the gaa posts, as a non gaa person, I spoke with someone today who received a notification that someone they had been training with had been tested for covid following a display of symptoms. The problem is however that this person went to training after their test. So you can have the best systems in place, but you can't deny it's an outlet for potential spread if people don't follow procedures.

Tony was very snappy with journalists, not sure why you feel like that

only when they asked stupid questions. commendable.

The Virgin Media news map of Ireland with Cork plastered in red and thus marking it as a virus hotspot along with the 3 midland counties is absolutely ridiculous and straight up wrong.

I think they were just giving general good advice to avoid cork at all costs

Such an idiot. Something should be done for that type of stupidity.

That person who went training while waiting for the test result was an idiot.

I saw a report on BBC about the restart of rugby practice in UK clubs.

They were disinfecting the ball every 5 minutes, because it is an obvious way for infection to spread from one player to another.

Are the GAA doing the same ?

Terrible. May they rest in peace.

What is the point of this, do you think all the people that died were good people?

With a comment like that I don't think you're in the position to judge whether anyone else was a good person.

But does this only look like a regional thing because the affected meat factories happen to be in these contiguous counties? If one of them was in Limerick instead of Laois would be getting a different LOKdown?

It's made clear by you but I haven't seen anything official about it ever. The truth is we have no idea what qualifies as a suspected case. You believe it is people awaiting test results in a hospital but you could be wrong.

Have you ever possibly wondered why suspected cases to transfer to confirmed cases in hospital?

Only 2.5% of the total cases to date (26400+) have been classified as travel related transmission.

Probably. It’s gone beyond the plants now, so they need to contain it. A real shame, but you would absolutely hope they’re looking at mitigating the risk in other meat plants nationwide, although it does seem like we are only capable of reactive measurements where they matter.

Ok. It's just the case definition of "hospital acquired infection" makes no mention of healthcare workers, so it's confusing.

And then they use "nosocomial" rather than HAI on a lot of graphs and statistics.

County Lockdown but no ban on flights from Covid hot spot Countries and with no forced quarantine

19 cases in the entire county from community transmission in the last five days. There’ll be plenty of people looking explanations why life is put on hold in three counties because of an otherwise unremarkable level of virus-at-large.

Are we still letting in tourists while putting restrictions on 3 counties? People aren't going to be very happy there and I wouldn't blame them.

What percentage of people did those 2.5% infect when they brought the virus into the country?
