Most likely because the meat plants don't draw on the nursing homes for their workforce.

I'm not talking about citizen or his family.

I posted exactly what I know from St James. ICU numbers are reported to HSE at 18.30. Its quite simple if you have a paitent awaiting a result of a swab, be it symptoms or not it must be reported as a suspected case. They swab all ICU admissions and all being admitted for procedures.

Thats direct from an ICU nurse.

That's ST james and I totally agree with you that all swabs are suspect, what I am trying to put across is not all hospitals are swabbing for the same reasons and therefore we cannot just dismiss the suspect numbers.

In one sense that's bad as we know its hard to trace without people having the test and the amount of people that haven't bothered when their indentified as a contact.

In another sense its good that they've found them and isolated them in this situation

Is it still early days to be saying they're asymptomatic? I think I read something about the first cases towards the end of July. Couldn't they still go on to develop symptoms?

Everyone who gets a test is a suspected case, whether or not they are in a hospital. That's thousands of suspected cases every day. It matters not a jot unless those tests come back positive.

This issue will not be resolved until we have full flight and travel bans against a good number of countries.

The severity of the outbreaks in the midlands is caused by factory working conditions. Travel bans will not mitigate that.

Did the thought occur to you that those other posters might be entitled to an opinion, even if it doesn't concur with your clearly God given right to have the correct one?

Podge I have no problem defending my own view

Don't forget the third sense: they haven't dropped down dead.

What are the other reasons? You've just had accounts from two different hospitals.

If anything the numbers etc. over the last while correlate to what they are saying in the daily reports .

Uk citizens can’t get out of the car when transiting Belgium from Netherlands or germany.
I say you can stay in the car.
I’d say it’s grand if people can freely go for work etc

So how did these meat factories get through the first and worst few months without this happening in them all, fluke?

    Caveat: speculation
Nobody went to Santaponsa on holiday and then didn’t quarantine in wider community then someone went to a bbq. Then infected everyone over a number of days.

This young whippersnapper of a CMO isn’t as calm and cool as Tony. I feel he may erupt at any moment.

Tony was very snappy with journalists, not sure why you feel like that

There was 158 suspected cases in hospital 3 weeks ago per article below.

Think about it this way, given how low the prevalence was and the the speed at which tests results were being turned around (with 48-72 hours I think mostly), if you look at the below number of cases and suspect actually meant "likely Covid cases", then you would surely have seen an acute rise in confirmed numbers in hospital shortly after. Instead they fell further into single digits.

    https://www.rte.ie/amp/1153327/

Suspect cases means tested but no result confirmed, they cannot rule out that they've Covid. Some of them may have Coronavirus and return a positive results, but reading into this statistic would be like classifying the daily number of tests still awaiting results as "suspected cases of the virus". Not to be advised.

Now that we are definitively on a new upward swing, Is it time for the Gardai to start taking control and stop people from breaking the COVID guidelines?

They don't have the legal authority.

The role of the modern foot soldier garda is to raise revenue for the state.

31 cases not associated with a known outbreak and not close contact of a confirmed case is a lot. What is the source of these cases?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 4,077 ✭✭✭Away With The Fairies

How are they announcing deaths from May? How does it take 2-3 months after someone died to figure out they died of covid?

Healthcare workers, travel and those under investigation.

CMO said they've likely been fully traced just not included in the stats by the time the press release is published.

It's up to the family to report the death.

Shane Beatty asked Dr Glynn if the 4 deaths were recent or Historic and Glynn said he wasn't sure.

    Did anyone else catch that?

    How can he not know?
Caught that he didn't have the information available. Educated guess would say most if not all 4 deaths are from a few months ago.
