    NPHET running the country again

Government didn't have the balls to go against them

Is that new or was it always the case?

I know some pubs letting customers out at 2am, also hotel bars are open

Sounds like pubs are to remain closed indefinitely.

    Which isn't that surprising really.

Is this true? Surely not?! If there is a 105 minute time limit what's wrong with being there from 10.15 to 12?

Hotel bars are only open if they serve food.

That's not selective hearing, that's exactly what he said
Wasn't watching, but this type of setup is really not his forte. Michael is a debater! However, I get the impression that he's a lot more nervous about COVID-19 than Varadkar anyway.

But even when they do go with the NPHET advice, they should stand over their own decisions, not just point the finger.

If the skool plan "works" there might be hope for them in October.

Meanwhile in Europe, Danes have stalled Phase 4 , German cases up, Greece highest cases in weeks and French on the verge of losing control again.

And Swedens cases are now plummetting whilst all those countries are seeing rises after lockdowns.

    True

Easy to shift the blame to NPHET who will always recommend a cautious approach

Not this again NPHET is not some shadowy cabal who secretly runs the country, they give the health advice to government and its upto government to either take the advice and act on it or not.

Leo and Co went against NPHET and accelerated the roadmap, its just gets MM out of a hole to say its NPHET that gave us the advice.

How would anyone know if you've been to San Marino?
The only way to get there is through italy

Same with Monaco. That was on the green list but the nearest airport is Nice which is deemed as France and wasn't in green list.

    NPHET recommendations are powerful

They will always be uber cautious and risk adverse

    Just like this government

They couldn't even allow more people outdoors

Well none of those countries have Swedes living in them in big numbers! The kind of activity causing surges in other countries is not what the "responsible" Swedes would do. The Swedes just want to be proven right at this stage but you'd still get no takers for their strategy anyway.

If they didn't open the pubs a few weeks back when cases were low I can't see them being opened again for at least 6 months.

How can they justify opening them unless the cases are lower than in July? I feel sorry for anyone in the industry, the uncertainty must be awful.

Food served until 11 in one of our local late bars, all out by 12.30.

Roadmap acceleration was not the issue. In the main it was appropriate. It is other behaviours that keep our cases ticking along but we do need to accept levels similar to this and manage them as seems to be happening.

Judging by the non-existent crowds in the centre of Dublin today I'm not sure they'll have that luxury. All they can do is manage the crowd.

WTF is their logic in rowing back on current arrangements when there have been no particular issues, and what do they think changing things by an hour or 1.5 hours will solve? It's bizarre.

There seems to be a lot of shock and bewilderment at today's announcement, which I don't really understand. Surely it was fairly signposted that pubs reopening was unlikely to go ahead.

I'm more confused about the rowing back re pubs already open - where does NPHET think 11pm versus midnight is a problem for those of us who get out a bit later in the evening?

Can someone explain to me why the announcement of face masks being mandatory is different from face masks. Supposedly... being mandatory?

There's no talk of actual legislation or enforcement.

I think they know a lot of "restaurants" were taking the piss.
