Do people who say we wont have a vaccine until 2022 realise that government is already prepping the priority scale for distribution by the end of this year

That will be in place ahead of vaccine being ready but hopefully it is ready sometime next year all going well

Cases are creeping back up as consequence of the reopening, hopefully it stabilises around the current figures.

Whether it's 10/15/20 new cases, take your pick, it's around those numbers. We seem to have stabilised for the last 4/5 weeks or so.

I'd argue that they have been very stable. We've had a handful of clusters. And the contact tracers have done a great job in following up and identifying contacts. We've been sub 20 cases for the 7 day average for a while now.

Does anyone know the shortest amount of time a proven to work Vaccine has taken from development through to deployment to the masses, a couple of months does seem like an awfully short time frame for a vaccine to be 100% safe, hope im wrong ill be first in line when it does come.

Yeah they increased marginally (as expected), with no major surge and reduced again this week.

40% reduction on two Sundays ago.

7 day moving average for daily cases was 12 on July 1st. Nearly a month later it's 16. Clusters are always going to skew things on certain days.

It was 19 two weeks ago so its not as if its increasing, its decreasing.

It surely deosnt bode well for next week....if sunday sees a 20% week-on-week rise??

Amount of tourists and people travelling around at the min,all it will take is 1 or 2 super spreaders and we could have dozens of clusters, into 100s of cases in our coastal/tourist regions

We need to go back to county boundary limits imo until summer over

    20% increase... from 10 to 12..... seriously

Under 5ys would be a massive achievement, getting 80%+ of the worlds population to take it will be an even bigger hurdle. It's going to take multiple vaccines over a long time.
It's great to have hope but it really is la la stuff hoping for a vaccine to come quickly, what's the uptake of the flu vaccine amongst Irish health care workers around 40% I think, are we going to make this new vaccine mandatory for them as not enough of them will take it if left to their own devices.
    Interesting times ahead.

    The math is correct?
You're on about an increase of 2 cases as not 'boding well'...... That's a joke surely? What do you expect?

Look at the mortality rate for flu and the mortality rate for covid and that answers why so few HSE staff take the flu shot. Also if you feel the timeline is la la stuff then you'd best get onto Dr fauci, Oxford, Astrazeneca, Pfizer, moderna and sinopharm and give them your detailed breakdown as to why that's the case.

Rubella was 5 years from start to finish. Think that was the fastest.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about safety, many are using existing proven safe methods and of the ones using more experimental types no major safety issues have arisen at early stages.

The bet that is being offered, the one you said you'd win, obviously.

My youngest son is 20. He met up with a group of friends in Clare two weeks ago tomorrow. They rented 2 houses. About 30 odd, students. Life goes on.

I'd be willing to bet 500 euros we still won't have a working vaccine by 2022. And I'm confident I'd win the bet too

I think we had our lowest week for deaths this week since the first death was reported in March.

21 less reported cases this week compared to last week, good going when you consider some was going into a mad panic with the rise in the R Rate number.
