^^^ This! Unfortunately, that could have been us (but not in Stillorgan). Despite agreeing about the importance of masks, I have been unable to find or make a mask that my OH can/will wear. He 'feels' smothered the minute he puts one on and is too mulish to keep trying and practicing a little every day.

No amount of telling him that holidays abroad and entrance to whatever place requires them are now out makes the remotest bit of difference. He claims he'll stay at home and forego these places until it's all over. It's going to be a long 2020 and 2021 ....

How packed is the Luas and Dart? I'm going back to work next week. Will be wearing a painting respirator, the normies can fly a kite.

I wonder how they want everyone to go back to work and still have trains running half empty. (I don't say 'half full', bite me)
They would need to set things up so ppl work at night, have varied working hours. But I bet everyone will just pile up on the 8:40 bus.

    What exactly are normies

If you can do the job, do it. If you can't do the job, just teach it. If you really suck at it, just become a union executive or politician.

Those who think we should be 'getting back to normal' and ignoring the absolute fact that the virus is still a factor and that masks help to prevent the spread.

It's a stupid nickname. We should just call them morons or arseholes.

In Galway City yesterday. Would say less than 5% wearing masks.

Lahinch, holiday resort on the Atlantic Way, in Co Clare. Full of people, almost business as usual. Americans, Spanish, Irish young people. Pubs regulate number of people inside but I can't see how that achieves anything. We were sitting in a tiny café with 12 other people.
No masks anyone including the staff, they just have glass shield at the counter, that's all.

You need to make decisions for yourself, by not going in in the first place. Get a takeaway and leave others to their risky behaviour.

That isn't the point that McGiver was making and you know it. What good is him staying at home going to do if there is a significant minority of the population which has thrown all the guidelines out the window.

What is with alot of people in retail wearing visors instead of masks?

Visors look to be a excellent additional layer of protection to the wearer, when worn with a mask, but from what I have read if just the visor is used, they do not protect from possible infection - via aerosolization.

They are definitely better than nothing, and I think they are ideal for children or people with medical issues, but they should not be instead of a mask, but rather used in conjunction.

And my point is that you have no control over what others do, just over your own behaviour and choices.

We're a country that didn't mandate mask wearing. What do you expect?

Basically free to not wear a mask, free to wear a mask, free to wear a face shield, free to do whatever the fcuk you want.

Other people are making choices that could affect us all. Do you want another lockdown?

It's our government that made that choice.

We won't get one, certainly not like this one. I understand people live their lives in different ways and I generally see people acting responsibly. Just because they are not doing it the way you want them to doesn't mean they are irresponsible.

Visors mean customers who rely on lip reading can still user the shop. It's more accessibility friendly imo.

The poster said 5% were wearing masks. I think that makes them the minority.

In this case I was talking about people going to cafes and not practicing social distancing.

Mask wearers are just cranks who look ridiculous, right?

Compliance seems to be on the up, based on what I've seen.

Was only a handful of people a few weeks ago, but was around 50:50 in the supermarket over the weekend.

No staff wearing them though. At all. What's that about? Are there arguments about who supplies the masks?

Nope. Mask wearers are people who have decided that mask wearing is necessary. I have no problem with them wearing a mask.

Nobody should have a problem with people wearing masks. It's the idiots who don't wear masks.

Saw an elderly couple walking through Stillorgan Shopping Centre yesterday. She was wearing a mask. He was walking along beside her with no mask. I am trying to figure out the logic of this?
She was wearing a mask because she wanted to. He refused to wear a mask because he's stubborn.

At the start of all this, my Ma had to argue with my Da about wearing gloves and distancing. Eventually he agreed to wear gloves while pumping petrol. He wore one glove, and pumped the petrol with his ungloved hand. He did cop on a lot more though as it became clear this was a pandemic and not just another virus scare.

Many aulfellas are just stubborn aul feckers who will refuse to do something specifically because someone told them they had to.

I hate that attitude, they've really fragile egos, it's so pathetic

I don't think visors are all that useless. It does need to be used with a face mask though. The face mask protects others, but the visor protects you and in Ireland we should all probably be protecting ourselves because not everyone are wearing masks.

How does the efficacy of a mask plus a visor compare with just wearing a medical grade mask?

I heard over the past few days that vulnerable sections of the population might be advised to do that in the future.

Would such a policy allow the economy to open more fully ? (those vulnerable sectors would be obliged to wear such masks if unable to socially distance and the masks would be provided free of charge)

Would the expense of providing those masks be extremely expensive and would there be enough of them to go around so that hospital workers etc would not have access to them?
