And where would a person who thinks like this stop?

And where would someone like you start?

Here's a comment that was on twitter... Someone going through cancer treatment asking you to wear a mask.

I bet you still don't care.

Why weren't we urged to wear them three months ago then?

You can thank all the clowns in charge who did everything to avoid over 1700 dead peeps in 5 million population, great result isn't it. Plus you can thank all the cry babies complaining about restrictions and freedom, all the clowns saying I won't wear one, cuz I don't give a ... Anyway masks are not life saver on it's own, but we should put it together with all other important measures. Maybe country would be open much faster to avoid all other impacts. Yet we still arguing here on masks. Kills me, seriously. Any country who implemented them in early stage does far better. We'll be facing local outbreaks and spikes, as we can see in countries which eased up restrictions earlier, so to control and suppres them, masks should be implemented. Don't forget how easy health system can get fcked up here.

No one has an agenda to make masks mandatory forever. We're in a pandemic, masks help. And yes you do have a desire to infect others with your refusal to wear a mask.

I wouldn't bother feeding the trolls , anti masks ,anti vaccines , anti government , anti RTE ,, there has been an influx of these posters most nearly all new members joined up since April /May with an agenda .

There's no agenda, just protect each other. I don't want to catch it and you don't either, so both of us wearing a mask, we protect each other. I don't understand how that is now seen as an agenda.

Genuinely curious about what you mean. What would the agenda be? Companies that sell masks pushing this to make more money if they’re mandatory? Something else?

Did you wear a mask to protect others out of the kindness of your heart before covid?

I'm going to pre-empt your reply as being no, so when there's a vaccine and its rolled out you'll keep wearing one to protect people from head colds ?

I'm sorry but its impossible to take that seriously. When a suitable treatment and or vaccine is developed mask wearing won't be a thing

I did when I was sick and coughing a lot in December. It was only for one day before I was bedbound for four. Guess I've lived in Asia so long that some of that social responsibility nonsense rubbed off on me.

That was certainly one of the failures. Wearing a mask in a healthcare setting, however, cannot be compared to mandatory mask wearing in general society.

So they just magically stop working outside hospitals?

Masks will be more important than ever now as things start to open up and there’s less social distancing.

People are entitled to their own views and opinions without someone rando preaching down to them or giving personal abuse.

Check your lane. That's out of order

But opinions should never trump facts. Allowing opinions as much validity as facts has caused a little more than a few problems in recent years.

    Anti gov ,anti rte?

    What facts are these ?

"Allowing opinions " talk is a slippery slope. You don't get to decide friend.

No idea what your first line is about.

The “facts” would clearly be dependent on the topic. It doesn’t change that they shouldn’t be trumped by opinions.

I do get to decide what I allow, which was my point. If people think critically, they deny a platform for alternative “facts”.

If use filter in cloth mask will they also protect the wearer? Whats the best and cheapest idea for filter? Might be answered further back but can't plough through the whole thread

You don't have to listen of course. But you don't get to decide what people think, type or say.

Just go back form my local Super Value and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of people wearing masks/face coverings.

    Probably about 50%

What does a mask do? Blocks respiratory droplets coming from your mouth and throat.

    Two simple demos:

First, I sneezed, sang, talked & coughed toward an agar culture plate with or without a mask. Bacteria colonies show where droplets landed. A mask blocks virtually all of them.

    What about keeping your distance?

Second demo: I set open bacteria culture plates 2, 4 and 6 feet away and coughed (hard) for ~15s. I repeated this without a mask.

As seen by number of bacteria colonies, droplets mostly landed <6 ft, but a mask blocked nearly all of them.

Seanergy you are wasting your time with your pesky science.

We have reached the argument of 'Meee Fredums' when it comes to people not wearing a mask.

The majority wearing them in Dunne's stores the other day. Without out a vaccine it seems with mask wearing we've reached the 'Last Chance Saloon' but it will work if everyone buys into it.

Posts 1 - 1000 probably the most relevant, use the search function with words like 'filter' 'meltblown' 'cotton' 'brushed'. The noise and general messing started after post 1000. There really is some valuable information, tests, data etc., early on in this thread.

Your so right, how's 'Meee Fredums' gunna get anything from an Agar culture plate.

Droplet spread from saying 'do you have an peppper' over a pint of the black stuff at the bar for your 9 euro dinner.

That's the United states of America you are thinking of.

    Different country, different culture,different constitution.

My post said no such thing.

But then the mask is covered in bacteria? How can microscopic bacteria be 'blocked'?

There are vulnerable people and hypochondriacs who have lobbied for mask wearing before Covid-19 arrived. They see this as an opportunity to push for their cause. I know it's a very small group of people, but the tail has been wagging the dog throughout all of this.

When the 'logic sets in' the social distancing will be out the window, and masks won't work in a pub setting for obvious reasons ! I'd be inclined to bring my own pint glass, or better still those tankards with the hinged lids.

I see a lot of opinions on the forum, which I would expect to see. I don't see a lot of alternative facts. Are you saying that people should not express an opinion on an Internet forum designed for that very thing?

I just got back from Aldi and it was no more than about 20%. One man outside who was wearing a mask gave me €2 for my trolley as I was leaving it back. That was the first time that has happened since Covid-19 began.
