I think it is appropriate to pass on sympathy to those people who have lost their jobs this week. It must be a very stressful and uncertain time for them and their families.

I think it is approriate to pass on sympathy to the families of those people who have lost their lives this week. And every week since this began.

And to wish a speedy recovery to those in poor health and still in hospital from this disease. It must be a very stressful and uncertain time for them and their families.

Death rates falling for Covid in UK hospitals - this is why you flatten the curve, to buy time to develop new treatments and allow hospitals to better prepare.

I'm not. I'm simply stating that people are taking the lead as they have done throughout. And regardless of what is happening in pubs/restaurants, they are meeting up with their friends. If you or anyone else who is frightened by a virus that is infecting less than ten people per day and not much of a health threat to the majority of people want to visit a pub/restaurant with restrictions, then go ahead.

When did I say I was frightened ? I would hope that the virus will, remain suppressed so that we can relax further .
You called those who were happy to go out and about under the new relaxed restrictions " frightened fannies" which says more about your state of mind than anyone else's, as you can't accept these rules you said, and would stay at home .
Bit strange to be calling for restrictions to be lifted for weeks and then when they are , still not happy .

The subject was not about those going out meeting their friends outdoor , it was about rules for pubs acting as restaurants, which is only for 3 weeks , but still a cause for endless whinging and complaint on here by some .
Should I make up some offensive name for those posters but I guess some would rapidly hit the report button if I did , never mind the continued childish stereotyping and name calling by these very same posters , on this thread .

Bars to close again in Texas at noon, restaurants limited to 50 % capacity and indoor gatherings limited to 100 people. How long until they have to close again here? I say October.

The world and its mother know at this stage Belgium over counted by attributing practically all its deaths to Covid-19.
Sweden on the other hand only count those that test positive before they passed.
If you are going to make comparisons why not like for like with Sweden`s neighbours that used lockdown, Norway, Finland and Denmark ?
If you have forgotten the stats I can provide them for you if you wish.

Charlie , this has been provided repeatedly to both of these posters but no facts and figures will change their minds about anything .
Waste of time and energy . Ignore .

I completely agree with you. What I said and what you said are not mutually exclusive. And indeed there are people who have lost loved ones and are now facing economic hardship.

Not just this week, for the last since 1st of May when that ridiculous 2 week extension was announced. "We go into lockdown to flatten the curve" we were told... get out. Flattened that curve 2nd week of May...... Everything happening since is just country bleeding economic activity that will take years to restore.

    Not at all.
the level of Covid19 is now so low and has been for most of June, it offers the hope that we can all potter about with social distancing and keep it at bay.

Countries like Portugal are seeing 200+ new cases per day still.

Aside from anything else, they re-opened when they had way too many cases in the community already.

I think people have become less sensitive about cases. I mean new cases . okay? So? Is ICU overwhelmed? no. Are new cases recovering? yes every day. Have 60% + worldwide confirmed cases already recovered? yes they have. All is well.

Its a bit like i tell you there is 1000 new cases of influenza diagnosed in parts of Canada yesterday. ..... ? okay. not great. But thats kinda it. What do you want me to say? Lock up Canadian children? The winter is coming?

Same response for Portugal's new cases. As evident by black lives matter protests where 100,000 + have gathered around the globe breaking social distancing rules etc, as evident by liverpool fans jumping up and down and seriously celebrating premier league win without any masks or social distancing, all over Europe, covid is very quickly becoming old news.

So you are saying that when RTE report over 490,000 people have died with covid, that figure is overstated? True number of deaths is lower?

Wow, but arent you the one saying this is a highly deadly disease? Who else does it apart from Belgium? Jesus, Belgium figures cant be trusted, China figures cant be trusted, Belarus figures cant be trusted.... but you keep banging the drum this is a very deadly disease and very infectious disease?

I feel much better now. True number of deaths is lower. Charlie why didnt you post this before??

I got no response on this :(

Is covid worldwide death figure overstated due to Belgian shenanigans? How many other countries do this overstating covid death number? And then you wonder why people dont wear masks or treat covid seriously?

I suspect it is swings and roundabouts. Some jurisdictions may not be fully reporting (may not even test for it) and others (including us I understand) are following reporting anyone who passes away with Covid.

From Guardian feed @ 16.18 today
Belgium has set up a new system to track mobile phones in order to limit crowding of seaside resorts and beaches that formally open for the summer season on Saturday.

Again like Texas they never really got everything under control to start with so never got the first surge managed, same as many states listening to the clown in the white house. No shock is it ?

I dont think the issue is as much of getting it under control as the serious obesity issue they have there. Like i think 2/3rd of US population is overweight? and 30-50% are obese?

They chlorinate chicken.... somethings going on there are just mind boggling

They have death penalty in few states too? US is 1 tough place to live

George Lee on Six One again saying Tony Holohan is ‘very concerned’ about travel. These same people didn’t want to reopen here for weeks, we’d still be under a 20km limit with nothing that’s reopening Monday under their plan reopening until late July/August.
We need a strong government to step up and stop the carnage. We are an island nation, there will be thousands of job losses if we are to remain closed.
Could it be we are useless at setting up airport safety checks such as temperature controls/quick and effective testing & tracing, etc? Because that’s not good enough at this stage & someone’s head should roll if this is the case.

Like, tbh, you know the "typos" in govt plan, the "we are not there yet" "cause for concern", you'd really think our govt is just useless full stop.

Look at leaving cert? That wasnt handled very well. At all.

Look at planning for school in Sept? thats being butchered by ministers currently with no one having any courage to make a decision. Now being held to ransom by teachers...

Totally agree, all of this kite flying in the media re September is just the authorities being too scared to make a decision. We all know what needs to happen, reopen with new sanitary measures, fast testing and tracing measures.
The chickens will come home to roost shortly when mortgage breaks end with the banks...quite simply thousands more jobs to go with parents trying to mind & home school their children and Ireland to go bankrupt ultimately. I don’t think most people realise how delicate our financial situation will be, particularly when we don’t seem too bothered with thousands of jobs being lost as long as we look great on the daily Covid numbers.

I’m absolutely sick of these restrictions and measures at this point.

I had a half day today and I decided I’d head up to the shopping centre and have a look around. I’m a 34 year old man and I like to think that I’m somewhat responsible!

I washed my hands thoroughly before leaving the house. Sanitized my hands in the car before getting out. The first 3 shops I went into, I sanitized my hands each time on entry. Also sanitized once with my own.

As I was passing, I decided I’d quickly pop into CEX and have a look at the switch games. I was the only person in the shop. Shop assistant screams at me to use the hand sanitizer. I look around and see a small stool with a tiny bottle of sanitizer on it.

Of course I left the shop feeling like a scruff. And I realise the assistant was probably just doing what he thinks is right. The shop has now lost potential business at a time when business is needed more than ever.

Like I said, I feel like I’m responsible enough to wash my own hands. If I don’t use the sanitizer, it’s because I’ve washed enough in the last hour.

Is it even mandatory to use the sanitizers in EVERY shop? Surely I’m not the only one that feels like we’ve lost all sense of reality at this point?

Anyways, despite the restrictions been “lifted”, I think I’ll be sitting on the sidelines for some time until common sense returns.

I’m more than happy to cook at home, drink at home, order essentials online and save a fortune. I was hoping to put some of my money into the economy but I’ll wait until the madness subsides.

I feel the same. I think everyone is dealing with this in their own way, but I'm noticing some individuals (I include myself in this) maybe not coping as well as others. I can see potential issues down the road regarding mental health. Personally i feel like some sort of massive weight is on my shoulders. My employment is far from secure as is my wife's. The simple things like doing the shopping seem like big tasks now that we have to prepare for. But then we arrive at the shopping centre to see that clearly other people don't give a hoot. Only today my wife stood outside a Penney's in the queue only to see four "ladies" walk straight in the door, basically giving the finger to everyone else. She is blessed with patience, but if it was me I would have walked away in frustration. It's putting me off going to these places. I thought I was dealing well early on with the whole lockdown but I actually think I'm getting worse. Apart from playing a little golf, I'm finding that I prefer to stay at home and away from the public. I know that sounds cowardly or lazy but I can't quite put my finger on it. I miss meeting my friends once a week for a pint and a chat. Sometimes I get angry that this has happened. I want to lash out at someone (preferably a Chinese government minister lol!) for causing this but I know that's a ridiculous thought.
I know there's loads of people who've lost loved ones during this awful time so my thoughts are inconsequential. Like everyone else I'm hoping this will soon pass. I just want my old boring life back again!!!

Watched RTE today, first time in 3 weeks. Oh boy where do I begin

George Lee: "CMO will be staying in Ireland for holidays this year, a staycation, and he recommends everyone does so as well, and I d also like to point out NPHET say that Irish people should stay in Ireland this year and not travel abroad and not listen to the airlines".

That there is absolute business, jobs murdering propaganda on national f TV. absolute disgrace.

Followed by some woman falling in a river, getting rescued by a Gardai, and WHAT DO YOU know started to hug every Gardai (3 in total), no masks, no social distancing nothing. Crowd standing beside them cheering them up, no social distancing or masks.

Are we in some sort of cuckoo land here in Ireland?? Not watching that shi*e for another 3 weeks anyways.
