Well I wore a mask from circa 1st March until the middle of last week but I don't think I need to now. When we open our airports I will have to start wearing it again. Unless of course we do Quarantine and testing at the airport for all incomers whether they be visitors or returning residents.

Mexico reports over 5,000 new cases and 947 new deaths.

The situation with COVID around the world is out of control.

There is a lot of self delusion and happy talk going on around Europe that is not matched by the reality of the situation which is on the wrong side of grave.

How some can not see this is beyond me.

Mexico must be doing crazy little amount of tests, looks like they are missing 95,000 cases at least based on that number of deaths

Oh and 12% of new cases in nevada over recent weeks had attended a protest and 10% had attended another type of large outdoor gathering. The protests here were relatively small compared to other places so I'd imagine their figures might be higher, if they are even asking that during their tracing efforts (I know some states, like new york, arent)

Important to note compactness of crowd.

A recently published study is bad news for the ‘Herd immunity’ crowd, and maybe also for vaccine development, if the findings are proven in larger peer reviewed studies. Also the so-called “immunity passports” may not be worth the paper they are written on.

Coronavirus antibodies may last only two to three months after a person becomes infected with Covid-19, according to a new study published in Nature Medicine.

The researchers found people without symptoms had a weaker antibody response than those with symptoms.

Within eight weeks, 81% of the asymptomatic people saw a reduction in neutralizing antibodies, compared with 62% of symptomatic patients.

Additionally, antibodies fell to undetectable levels in 40% of asymptomatic people, compared with 12.9% of symptomatic people, according to the study’s findings.

There are still a lot of unknowns about this nasty virus... how exactly the immune system responds once a person is exposed... whether antibodies produced in response to Covid-19 offer protection against getting infected again and of how long immunity lasts.

The best plan at present is to avoid getting infected if at all possible.

Herd immunity of 60-70% was never really a viable option look at Sweden 7% failure and immunity passports are nothing more than a retards wet dream.

I have read and even heard Prof Luke O'Neill on the Radio recently who makes this stuff simple even for the googlite scientists on here, that those people that have severe symptoms will have a better antibody response and will have better immunity in the future. Their body has fought harder to clear the disease and similar to having bad experiences in general life those that give you the most bother you simply don't just forget.... the body immune system and in particular memory lymphocytes wont forget CV19 in a hurry.

Those people who had very mild symptoms or were asymptomatic the virus for what ever reason didn't get a good grip and probably didn't give their immune system much bother so their defense is not as great.

Have you a link to that because it's BS (Prof O'Neill is never one to change his mind depending on what is happening)

Simple example - we get jabs for common stuff like measles, it never has a chance to infect us but guess what - it gives us immunity for life

I won't even go in to the other studies showing the common cold gives us antibodies to fight off coronavirus

Were you listening to him at the start when he said nothing to worry about, we're all grand in Ireland - laughing away at the suggestion we might have a problem?

Guy is a fool who for some reason gets paraded around the various TV/Radio shows for some ungodly reason and never brought to task about anything he has said in the past (and when I say past I'm talking about only weeks ago)

You do realise you have no control over how other countries handle the virus, or how seriously other people take it? Take whatever precautions you can personally but other than that its out of your control. Obsessing on the negative and stressing out about it is only harming yourself.

Don't you live in Ireland? Things seem to be under control there for the time being. Enjoy it while you can if you really think it won't last.

Only half, there is still hope they'll snap out of it.

Almost everyone, i know over 65 is now acting out and talking such bollocks I've decided to give them a pass til things settle down a bit and they get a chance to walk it off.
    Anyone else feel the same?

How does mask wearing work in Vegas? Can't people drink and smoke while gambling? Or have they stopped serving alcohol while they gamble?

I suspect they would lift up the mask to take a drink and then replace the mask afterwards? 95% mask wearing is better than 0%?

Yes, he's an absolute spoofer. He shouldn't be wheeled out peddling his nonsense at all. Hate hearing that he will be on any program.

    Kingston Mills is good though.

What is the story with the vaccine?

    Jesus Christ.

Why is the world so completely and utterly useless at this? Like just do things right for a while and then it goes back to normal. This long drawn out response is far worse for everyone.

And that's why they aren't being included in the relaxing of travel restrictions here

Lots of candidates and many will fail. There are only a few of them at various levels of trials. Early 2021 is the very optimistic end of things.

A professor of Biochemistry in the Trinity school of Biochemistry and Immunology is a spoofer who is spreading nonsense about covid? Because you dont like what you hear does not mean its nonsense. Not saying we should act on everything he say, but a voice such as his should be listened to, along with others. He may well be wrong, but would hazard a guess hew knows far more about the subject than anyone on this thread.

I do agree that Kingston Mills comes across better on this however

Posting that at 2am. Get some sleep. Everyone on this thread is well aware of the situation worldwide. You only update it every hour or so. People are trying to be positive maybe after a tough few weeks for us all. Nothing wrong with that and I'm not sure others people's mental state bothers you. Their is not self delusion in Ireland for the vast majority of the population either and their is data on movements etc to back this up.

A few of these immunologists and other experts have ended up as media darlings, intentionally or not. What they show is a willingness to talk, speculate and advise in a loose way that the CMO would never countenance. Not all of what they say is necessarily good to hear, though.

The countries and US states Kermit quotes are in wave 1 which I’m sure he’s aware. We didn’t hear about them when Europe was very high...

It’s like RTE - fear, fear, keeping living in fear.
Remember when George Lee said further lifting of our restrictions was ‘scary’? At a handful of cases per day..Time to turn off Clare Byrne too and her ‘Amárach’ polls...I would love to see a fact check on those, Time to live.
Let’s not forget many hospitals have been empty throughout this crisis, we need to get on with dealing with the other medical issues which are piling up by the day.

People see what they want I'm afraid. Unfortunately we are headed the wrong direction and lockdown is inevitable again sooner than we think.

Agreed. I remember him on the late late show laughing and joking about it when others where warning it would kill untold numbers and collapse the world economy. An utter plank of a man.
