Really feel that eventually all of this will come to an ugly head at some point. Either the economy will dictate that we simply have to get back to normal. Or people will end up protesting.

We have to get back to normal anyway. Otherwise what's the point in anything?

How long do people want and expect these debilitating restrictions on business and life to go on for? Is it indefinitely until a (potentially never to arrive) vaccine?

If the answer is no to keeping these "regulations" until a vaccine, then when exactly can we go back?
We're down to single figure daily cases now. What exactly is going to be so different in 4 weeks time, or whatever arbitrary time frame you want to choose? There seems to be an unrealistic expectation now that daily cases can go to zero and stay there and thats the only way life can return. This is beyond unrealistic.

It all smacks of window dressing to avoid backlash from people who have been scared witless for months.

I was in a hospital for the first time during the week, and this is what swung it for me. Walking through the corridors, all the staff and whoever else, at most 30% were wearing masks. "Social distancing" basically non-existent. People sitting in cafes like normal. People chatting away in groups. This is one of the only environments where there may actually be a small chance of catching it. Either it's required everywhere or it's not??
I was able to walk in off the street through a major hospital with no mask etc. and go where I want but there's this big rigamarole in a clothes shop or restaurant? Come on.

I think when the Covid payments end and the bank start ending the payment holidays... that will be a real turning point.

People will have bigger things to worry about than Covid 19 at that point.

What is even more staggering is the amount we have spent on PPE - over €1 billion so far!

Has anyone done a cost benefit analysis of what we're getting out of this colossal amount of money? Remember when everyone was aghast at spending €2 billion on a hospital to treat sick children and now we're heading on course to spend the same amount on disposable PPE this year!!??

And now Government are focused on belching out realms of bureaucratic nonsense that will make it impossible for private sector business to get back trading again

What in the name of fcuk is going on in this country?

Don't forget the job losses, the negative effects of restrictions aren't hitting people hard enough to force them to really question is it worth it

Or most likely, rules will be largely ignored and the garda will pick on some soft targets.

Ye I think this will happen very fast, who wants to go out like that. I was was in a q outside a supermarket the other day 20 metres from the door and the woman shouts at me to stand back out of the way. Who wants that?

Have tuned out for a few weeks, today I spot on fb the requirements for pub reopening.

Am I alone in thinking there is no logic? It's getting a bit long in the tooth at this stage.

Wow, that sounds like a joke. A hospital is probably the most likely route that the virus might potentially escape and re-enter the community from.

We have sacrificed so much as a country to only piss it down the drain by falling at the last hurdle with things like this

The virus isn't a captive fugitive, it can be anywhere. Hospitals to me would be a safer bet than a large retail cloths shop with people banging into each other.

The protests, have they impacted the numbers or do we have to wait a month just to be certain.

I'm glad to see more and more people on this thread questioning the logic of all the restrictions and rightly being more worried about the business of life in the future than catching Covid.

I've been accused by some of not following restrictions because I'm all for the careful and sensible easing of restrictions. I personally have gone nowhere since mid March as I've been able to work from home and the one and only weekly outing has been to the supermarket.

I would have liked to have a look at the shops since they reopened but it's all more trouble than it's worth. Queues to get in, no browsing, no trying on. I really want to support local businesses but with such hassle?? I don't go to pubs but totally empathise with the dismay of pub goers.

Ireland is generally a hot bed of red tape and restrictions but this whole convoluted road map to the "new normal" is sounding more and more abnormal. Like another poster, I'm not watching the news so much anymore, not tuning in here as much. And that's for my own sanity as I try to navigate this madness. Hopefully some sense will prevail in the not too distant future.

    Bad news

"Sun holiday setback as quarantine rule to stay and travel restrictions extended
Travel restrictions for Irish airports will be extended for another three weeks

Families hoping to jet off on sun holidays after lockdown have been served a fresh blow as it has emerged travel restrictions for Irish airports will be extended for another three weeks.

Laws requiring passengers arriving in Ireland to tell authorities where they will be quarantining for two weeks after arrival will be extended until July 9. The move means anyone hoping to travel abroad will still be asked to self-isolate for two weeks after they return until early next month.

This would mean they would not be able to go back to work for a fortnight after they returned from their holidays.

    https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/sun-holiday-setback-as-quarantine-rule-to-stay-and-travel-restrictions-extended-39295057.html

Can someone explain why this is happening? To promote tourism in Ireland?

What happened with "we need to flatten the curve"? That was over and done with 2nd week of May.

This is just retar*ed beyond belief. Over 150,000 work in tourism sector, now we know that legally you dont need to quarantine, just need to fill out a form, but a foreign tourist with bad English will actually think that there is a legal quarantine requirement when googling holidays in Ireland...

The pub I run is the latest casualty of this unworkable madness. Owner won't be reopening as in his words 'its not worth it with all this red tape'

Better off waiting until this phase of operating as restaurants is over and aim for 20th July

We are stockpiling for Autumn/Winter, and looking to avoid the desperate race to get PPE earlier in the year.

an absolute and utter farce is right, ive had to fork out a load of money for a one way flight for an easy jet flight to Belfast from England then a coach onto Dublin not to mention train fares to avoid this ridiculous restriction.

88% of people according to the most recent survey.

Only 12% of the people surveyed thought we were re-opening too slowly.

If people are shouting at you to do something, maybe it's worth considering things from their point of view every now and again.

Sure you could have just flown into Dublin and just filled in the form. Its the only mandatory part

All down to current demand and that huge deal for €230m. Even the recent visit by the giant Antonov delivered just 12 days of supplies, according to the HSE.

We should all reflect on how we're behaving out there.

Fully agree with this. I'd love to be able to head out to the shops and pick up some new clothes, get a haircut, sit down for a meal, drink a few pints and have some normality.

But with all the restrictions in place, its just too much hassle.

I don't want to sit in a hairdressers watching a guy in full PPE and a face mask coming at me. No thanks.

I don't want to queue to get into a shop and be told what way I'm supposed to walk and be warned not to try anything on. Then have an awkward encounter behind a big plastic visor.

I don't want to go to book a table to go to the pub and have to spend at least 9 euro on some pub grub as an excuse to have a few pints.

Its all ridiculous nonsense. These businesses are sadly going to fail if this carries on. People will deal with it initially. But the novelty will quickly wear off.

Well for the pub part just wait until 20th July and you can go for a few pints without the need for the meal.

But overall I fully get where your coming from

Thankfully we already know that the restrictions being put in place to save people's lives will be lifted by degrees, every three weeks, and faster if the evidence points to that being possible to do safely. Because the absolute inhumanity of you maybe having to bring something that doesn't fit is obviously worth way more than the lives and health of your fellow shoppers and the shop workers.

Anyone know or have any idea, when intercounty travel will be allowed? Counties outside of the 20k border range that is.

Someone wanting to be normal is inhuman now?

You forgot to mention "new normal" in your post there.
