I agree. Rubbish numbers from China used by UK media to scare monger people and get some clicks, you have to be in a cuckoo land to believe below

"Beijing, which had previously gone 55 days in which the only new infections were citizens returning from other countries, has reported a total of 79 cases in the past four days. The first case in the new outbreak was discovered on Thursday after a 52-year old man surnamed Tang was confirmed to have the virus. On Friday, authorities reported another six cases – all of them, including Tang, linked to the Xinfadi market."

Why are the numbers from China "rubbish"?

    https://www.rte.ie/news/coronavirus/2020/0617/1148036-r-rate-figure/

"The latest figures from the Health Service Executive also show that there were 11 patients in ICU with suspected Covid-19 and awaiting test results.

Overall, there were 62 patients in hospitals overnight with confirmed Covid-19, compared with 71 the previous day."

It's laughable at this stage that they are trying to promote the wearing of masks when the virus is pretty much gone. Maybe the advice on masks would've been worthwhile when it was still spreading but it makes no sense now as it is just not spreading.

It seems crazy they didn't use the private hospitals to clear waiting lists once they knew we weren't going to see a surge like Italy/Spain. I dread to think what the lists will be like now for kids getting tonsils etc. done. Could have romped through those lists seeing as kids very mildly if at all affected.

Would have happened if they had got the consultants on board, that was the problem, unfortunately.
That is what the staff in the private hospitals expected , and were geared up for.
Can't do surgery, and most definitely not on children, without surgeons and anaesthetists, and all the public consultants were deployed in public system

Nowhere is going go be crowded anyway if you have the 1m between tables. When tables are full the pubs full simple as. I'm talking about after 20th July now. The 90 min stuff just won't work if you've people in for a few pints

I am agreeing with you !

Wers that person telling us we are in the middle of a pandemic? Really?

I imagine there will be further acceleration announced very soon.

I know, right? 25,000 cases and 1,700 dead in Ireland. 8 million cases and over 400,000 dead worldwide. Sure, like, you'd see worse the night of an all-Ireland!

    Give it a rest, wouldya?

So on what basis do you reckon the easing of restrictions shouldn't be sped up?

    What a foolish post.

More people died off hunger related diseases in 2 weeks than your 6 month love story with covid.

You really dont have a clue do you?

Not until those cases drop below 25,000 and the 1700 are alive again...

Your trolling is actually just sad at this point. Can you catch hunger off your colleague if he coughs near you? Can you spend your way out of an ICU?

I mean FFS, if this is the consideration for places to consider opening or not then for God sake just let them open! Table service only, a bit of distance and hand sanitiser with other hygiene practices and just get on with it.

Why would the reporter make up 6.50e? It's 8.40 for a soup and sandwich.

I presume the deaths of brown people don’t count as much when it comes to the Facebook likes.

Regarding the silly pub rules they are looking at, I've a sneaking suspicion that someone or some group is meddling/ lobbying at the table to take a chance to change Ireland's social night culture and try to get us to change to a more 3 courses and 3 drinks culture. As opposed to the have your dinner at home and head out for 5 or 10 drinks.

Nah. I don't think that's the case at all.

Not soon. They might get Simon Harris and Tony''we are not there yet'' infected with Covid.
Who would save the country then?

Could be worth keeping an eye on Israel. They are continuing to relax restrictions generally, but are reimposing them in three specific areas where the increase has occurred.

Interesting as well, their death rate is only one tenth of ours.

I know that animal welfare is the least of anyone’s worries atm but all the posts I’m seeing on social media of people dumping their lockdown puppies is breaking my heart. The rescues are going to be under severe pressure in the next few weeks as more people go back to work.
It’s so irresponsible and selfish to discard an innocent animal like that when you’re done using it for entertainment. It sickens me.

I was fearful of this. Is that serious?

Appearently this applies to those opening as restaurants end of June and not to others. So whatever is in this document looks like its for the 3 weeks.

Some of it is completely unworkable

I work in rescue and unfortunately this is happening. I'm bracing myself for when it really takes off in the next few weeks. Lots of extra greyhounds (even more than usual) were surrendered and saved from being put down when racing was on hold too. There's a lot of ignorant people out there!
