Latest testing and contact tracing data is out.
Referrals increased slightly yesterday, nothing out of the ordinary.

Average/median number of contacts plummeted. Average number went from over 5 two days ago to just over 3 today. Likewise, median dropped from 4 to 2.

Well then they need to put in protective screens between tables in restaurants and divide pubs the same way. This would obviously cost a lot of money but if these businesses are allowed to reopen they just can`t realistically expect to have all public health measures scrapped for them when other types of businesses have measures in place.

Sorry, that just will not happen

Or, it will. It doesn't have to be perspex pods or anything. You could do it like so:

Who knows, I was actually in touch with my GP about something else today and she said you don't sound great, its cause of hay-fever and she said she could send me on for a test if I wanted. Don't know about other parts of the country but if my GP is sending on people with hay-fever for tests that could be one possible reason.

There you've close contacts who'll be swabbed twice.

I turned down the test by the way.

I have been caught at the back of my throat for the last 3 months. Pollen is high this year.

I wouldn't trust any of that 'data'. George Floyd was carrying corona and they only found out from the coroner. It makes this entire tracing effort pointless.

The virus needs to burn its way through the population, that's the inconvenient truth IMHO.

I had some cold/flu with heart-burn like chest pains a week after (have no pre-existing conditions), I'm pretty sure I already had it. Too bad for old folks, they will get rekt.

Just for you, it's in Cork, boy! Place called Longboats, friend in a group chat sent it to kill an argument just like this last night.

This is one of the most ridiculous comments I've seen on here and that says a lot

Right thanks for that. I have saved this picture for future reference. Could turn out to be very useful at a later date on these forums.;)

The stats around close contacts are very open to fluctuation. There could be complex contact tracing cases along with clusters etc.

Its one to keep an eye on for sure but can't draw much from it from report to report

Yeah noticed that, found myself getting dry throats quite quickly this year. Its purely hay-fever but it seems worse this year

Its an interesting solution. And it may work for some places. But most of the Victorian Pubs in Dublin operate under strict preservation rules and cannot alter their internal layout/structure.

For them this would be a non runner

Without doubt it’s worse this year probably due to lack of rain . i rarely get it, in the beginning i thought i had got the virus.

You seem to really enjoy dealing in absolutes and fishing for negative perspectives.

These are temporary measures, I'm sure anyone standing over these preservation orders or whatever on these pubs you mention would be fine with allowing the owners to come up with temporary solutions. If the pubs close down and fall into disrepair, that'd probably be a lot worse for their preservation than allowing them make small alterations to keep them going till we're out the other side of this.

Or maybe they won't be able to, in which case all those publicans, and the locals and regulars, should get onto the overseers of those preservation orders and tell them to pull their f*cking heads in and stop acting the c*nt. Solutions can be found, in a once-in-a-generation event like this business owners should be encouraged to take whatever steps necessary to carry on.

Christ I'd murder a pint. I shouldn't have gotten into a pub debate.

    Latest HSE operations update

Hospitalisations down from 115 to 105.

Number in ICU up by 1 to 35 - 1 death in last 24 hours (fairly certain this was in CUH) and no change in ventilated cases

I don't know what your question is. Objective reality doesn't care.

Does anyone genuinely know, like genuinely 100% know one reason as to why masks aren't compulsory? I'm clueless.

Because there is practically zero community transmission so I don't see the point.

Good decrease in hospital numbers today. St James's now covid free in general beds, 6 in ICU. If we can drop that 105 down to the 90 mark tomorrow that would be fantastic.

Huge drop in the number of vacant general beds today too, 489 general beds free which would suggest more normal hospital work starting up

at 8pm on 8th there were 115 that was down to 110 by 8am on 9th. didnt think that you would be discharged overnight. Also suspected cased increasesd by over 100 overnight, i assume they are swabbing everyone who enters the hospital for that increase.

Pretty bad news from the US.

15 states have reported a record surge in new cases today

Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Kentucky, New Mexico, North Carolina, Mississippi, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Utah among them.

Georgia reported 77 new deaths which is way up on it's tallies until now. Georgia is ground zero for this really, hopelessly opening up early under a ridiculous governor.

Florida reports over 1,000 new cases and 54 deaths.

Looks like the premium for stupidity may be starting to come through.

Can you be more specific in what you consider stupidity?

South Carolina only allows for no more than five retail customers per 1,000 square feet. Arizona stipulates that customers must stay 6 feet from one another and employees. As of a few days ago

That is stricter than Ireland. No?

Alaska requires masks as mandatory fyi

Since all these US states have different restrictions, and some other states, including those with strict lockdowns and those with no lockdowns at all, have not seen rises then my question is what conclusions are we being asked to draw and why?

Saw this post on Reddit and thought it was quite funny/accurate.
The World Health Organization's message on this topic has always been clear.

Masks don't work, and no one should buy them, but everyone should wear them because they protect everyone and will help stop the spread of the virus.

Also, asymptomatic transmission of the virus is so rare that it never happens, but also it does happen and is a real cause for concern.

They shouldn't be open at all. They could have reduced the curve significantly by remaining closed for only some weeks longer as they were implored to do by the medical community. This was deemed too much for some.

They flattened the curve nationally but did not bring the trajectory negative.

They were left hanging at a high plateau.

Far from ideal and could have been had they held the line on suppression.

You can blame that all on Trump.
By denying each state federal funding, he has forced them to open up way too early so they can get taxable income to fund state services.
This reduces the headline unemployment figures which is the key pole of his re-election campaign.

    From the Guardian

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jun/09/coronavirus-cases-uptick-detected-some-us-states
The surge in cases, which public health experts have described as worrying, and had warned about repeatedly, shows that while Covid-19 is now in retreat in New York City and other major urban centres, it is sweeping across rural areas, infecting smaller towns.

Figures from the Texas department of state health services showed that 1,935 people were hospitalized for coronavirus-related reasons on Monday, up from a previous record of 1,888 on 5 May. Officials in Dallas said the city hit its highest ever one-day total for new infections on Thursday, at 285, while Houston has also recorded climbing numbers.

On Sunday, Florida recorded more than 1,000 newly diagnosed Covid-19 cases for the fifth day of the previous week, with Thursday’s total of 1,413 the highest since the state started providing daily updates in March.

California saw a 40% rise in cases last week, with large cities including Los Angeles, which has the highest number of cases in the state, and San Francisco lifting restrictions on travelling and access to beaches.

Arizona, meanwhile, has seen one of the largest jumps in the country, with the daily total in new cases breaking the state record on four separate occasions over the past week.

Doug Ducey, the Arizona governor, who relaxed restrictions two weeks ago, has put the increase down to an increase in testing and insisted that his approach on reopening has been prudent.

The overall number of new cases recorded each day across the US is hovering around 20,000, down from a peak of 30,000 in April, but this decrease is mainly due to the improving situation in the worst-hit states, such as New York and New Jersey.

    Texas hospitalisations reach record high...

    2020-06-09_14-43-12_0.jpg?itok=GGXeZtFy

Pretty alarming in some states particularly for the middle of the summer.

The best to hope for is this tapers significantly before the late Autumn. If it doesn't and it stays like this or accelerates and that coincides with Winter illnesses like flu then that wouldn't be very good.

I'm asthmatic and had pneumonia a year ago. When well I'm very fit. For those familiar with the peak flow metre I hit 780 on it.

Today I woke up wheezing, feverish and my bed clothes were soaking from sweat. I rang my GP and was sent for a Covid test.

I have to say all the staff involved were all so friendly, warm and professional. A really amazing service. I expect I have some sort of virus but not Covid as I've cocooned and stuck to regulations. Will hear in 2 days.

I can't over emphasize how impressed I was by the whole testing process and the people behind it.
