I do nenagh to Belfast: 330km each way. 75 euro for return trip on petrol:eek:

Stop in castlebellingham supercharger for 10 mins each way and you'll be grand. Tesla is not like other EVs where you put off FCP stops or try and eke it out in preference to stopping for 5-10 mins. There's always a supercharger available, they always work, and you get live occupancy and uptime data on your satnav

Getting 75% of EPA rating in winter with a lot of 120km/h motorway driving is very high. Most EVs would get a percentage a lot lower than that. I'd say you'll stay feeling much better about the eGolf if you don't give this a try :p

To be honest I don't think I'm getting 58% in the Tesla. Due to the degradation my rated range is just below 410. I'm getting 300 give or take 25km +-, so that's 75%.

what ive found with the range is similar to yours.

mine only has 42k miles on it so fairly newish battery.

if I put it up to about 90% charge for a trip, it gives about 410km estimated.
drove down to galway, at 130kmph the entire way (late for meeting lol, with full heaters on, was first trip!), done about 280km and used about 380km range.
so the speed and heaters ate about another 100km range

drove down and back to athlone without charging, had about 100km range when I got home.
drove at 110kmph the whole way, heated when needed, way longer range.

drove to Sligo last week and was the same, 110 on the motorway, 80-90 on the smaller roads, used heater when required.
    got way better range.

so for me, ive found the speed is the bigger factor than the range.

all those trips were from Dublin.

deffo gonna get the css retrofit done, should have done what you done and pestered them to try get them to do it.

no issues with the mcu, but my LTE hasn't worked since leaving ferry, need to book Sandyford trip.

have spent about 2 euro on charging at home, every other charge is in work, for free.

Did you guys try range mode? I wonder what effect it has on the motorway range - in theory it should use front motor only for cruising.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,138 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

I have range mode on by default.

Have just got out of my loaner, a white model S long range raven - with 500 kilometers on the clock.
Man. HW3/AP3 is awesome. You can see it's designed at its heart to be a hands off system but is constrained by user input and moreso regulations.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,138 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

So I've calmed down a little after driving the loaner back to the office and am reflecting on it.
I checked the online configurator and the price for that exact model including FSD is €103k. Over double the cost of mine! What a machine but that's a serious price tag to lose 50% of its value in 3 years. My car is exactly the same (long range model S) but 3 years older and probably worth around half that value.

So to update: Just off the phone with sandyford.
All issues fixed, sunroof rattle, chademo adapter, light alignment, mcu issue (apparently new firmware needed)

The above was under warranty but they wanted to charge me 150 quid + vat for the USB socket fix. So I politely declined.

I will be handing back my loaner 192 Model S LR Raven and getting back Severus. To be honest, after the initial thrill of driving a >100k Model S with 3 digits in the odometer, I think I prefer my own car. A brief summary follows.

    2016 Facelift S 90D AP1 MCU 1 vs 2019 S Long Range Raven.

AP1/MCU1 vs HW3: MCU is cleaner and quicker in the new car of course. AP3 is a great system as I said above but there are too many bings and bongs, too many NOA bugs, low visibility, lane change times out way too much (even half way through!)

Interior: I preferred the new seats, herself preferred the seats in my car. I liked the new feel of the steering wheel vs leather in mine. Doors were shorter and easier to open.

    Exterior: No difference really

Performance: 192 Didnt really have the same thud of off the line torque. Considering it has more power and torque on the specs, I wonder if it's been dialled back off the line in the non performance cars now. The 192 had air suspension which made a slight difference in comfort.

Charging: 24A AC was great. Didnt get to use DC at all.

Other: Caraoke was a great novelty for herself. Songs not by original artists though. Played the driving game, was novel. Not worth paying for FSD imo... the system is just not ready yet and you're left using AP and no lane change when it's a little bit wet or dark. AP3 handled off ramps (ie ignoring them) better than my car. Parking in multi storeys (like the point) was difficult when I was afraid of being billed for a scratch, wouldnt be an issue in my own!!

Range: 590km on 100% charge. >500km easily achievable in the real world even in this weather. Unbelievable. The car is so much more efficient than mine too. The change to FWD bias with M3 motor really helps/

All in all, I was delighted to get the chance to drive this brand new car for a few hundred km. Would I spend 103k of my own money on it?? Would I heck as like! I'd buy a used S and a used X instead!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,138 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

Also to add. The phantom braking on AP3/HW3 is comically bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 109 ✭✭wcooba

How did you find auto wipers in this new car? I think yours would still have traditional (infrared) rain sensor while anything from AP2 relies only on camera algorithms.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,138 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

Yeah the auto wipers were awful, not even nearly as good as mine.

Also found the heated seats not as good.

Finally, I checked in the SC about the cost of upgrading to the HPC ac charging for my car. 2k. Not bad. The loaner had 17kW AC, very handy since I have 22kW at work and most SCP are 22kW

    Another update.

    VRT paid. 2498€

I ran straight in to pay it after getting the call. I was expecting double that!

Sweet! Looks like you got yourself the boards.ie EV bargain of the year 2019.

    Story on the MCU?

Seems like it. Total cost just under €47k including travel, hotel, vrt, exchange rates etc.

MCU they were unable to replicate the error but found something in the logs and updated the firmware apparently. Hasnt happened since so they've done something anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 66,660 ✭✭✭✭unkel

I'd make a log on that and try get something agreed in writing by Tesla that your car had symptoms of MCU failure, which seemingly were alleviated with the software update, but that Tesla will replace the MCU FOC within an agreed period outside of warranty if the issue arises again

    +1

Even an email from you to the service centre explaining all that would be a help as it will show a dated audit trail of sorts that you can point back to saying the MCU was on the way out during your warranty.

I saw the service record (it was emailed to me) and it shows that the symptoms were recorded and that the firmware was fixed "with customer to monitor". That to me is tacit acceptance of a potential issue.

    So, let's revisit this thread.

It's been 7 months now that I've had the car and I've only done 21k km (thanks covid).
No other changes to the car, 161 S90D facelift with CCS and Chademo charging, 11kW AC, AP1/EAP, cold pack, sunroof.

I'm debating selling it. What do people think would be a good price to list at/expect to get? Especially in these times, how do people even buy/sell/view cars anyway.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,846 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

I'd bench against UK import with VRT on top and work from there, very few S90D's on sale here to work a price off.
Remember if you are thinking of replacing it with another UK import the only date we have so far is 31.12.20 so after that you have to assume VAT + VRT

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,138 ✭✭✭✭ELM327

Yes that's my problem, no real comparison here.
People can't go to the UK now either.

I won't be buying from the UK again, too much hassle, will buy something domestically for sure. Havent decided yet. I just saw the e66 760li I was looking at a while ago is up for sale again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 66,660 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Very hard to say and your car might hold its value very steadily once we are past 01/01/2021 (or even go up in value) as bringing one in will become very expensive with the VAT alone costing the guts of EUR10k

For a private sale if you want someone to bite and deal done within a week, given your car is now out of warranty (except for battery and drive train), advertise for more but maybe accept around the EUR40k mark? There's a facelift 2016 75D with AP1 from Tesla UK for GBP37.6k with Tesla warranty, which is worth a few grand. Same performance, slightly less range than your car.

There is no problem getting a car from the UK now. You will just have to get a transport company to do it. Will cost you about EUR400 or thereabouts.

If I was selling it I would aim for what I paid for it (including all costs, transport etc) -10%.

But that's my culture, boss. Where I come from cars depreciate 20% a year. Irish used car prices are weird.

There's not much of a relation between what a car "stands you" and what price it would fetch in the market. If you want to sell you should only care about the latter!

No, it's much slower. The 75 pack is lower voltage and thus outputs less power. My S90D is ~4.2s 0-60. The S75D was ~4.9 from memory.

This is what I'm looking for though, just a collective brainstorm for how much I should list for. I haven't decided how much I'd actually sell for, but I saw a nosecone RWD S85 with no AP go for high 30's here so I'd expect a fair bit more than that.

Then again, if I were looking to buy an S now, the last place I'd look would be a private seller. So there's that.

Indeed, but that's how I roll. It makes everyone happier, not least me.

I roll in a similar way. Whatever I sell will have to be a good bit more expensive than what I paid for it. Or at least that's the aim. I succeed more often than I fail on this :p

Just going by the Tesla UK website and both are listed as 0-60 4.2s there. Have a look for yourself if you don't believe me!

In a private sale? I very much doubt it. Or they overpaid by at least 5k

I got my MS from a private seller, came with 29months Tesla CPO warranty, wouldn't discount private sellers

I’d have no problem buying a MS in a private sale. Especially if it was a forum
Member of group member as you know there’s some history there and it should be genuine.

notwithstanding covid for the past 2.5 months, you've had 4 months of normal ownership, (all in winter!)
