Would you not agree that most teachers are happy that they don't have to go to work.

I don't understand why people working in Dunnes etc have no ppe and are expected to be so close to people daily. But schools can't open, when neither are shown to have any effect on coronavirus numbers.

Well they are working it is nothing to look on here and take a second to reply to inaccuracies and teacher bashing.

Schools were open at the start of this pandemic and there was no large outbreaks because of this that I'm aware of? Can I ask why are you so against schools opening? I haven't seen or read one valid reason. Nursing homes and the elderly are the vulnerable people.in all of this.

There's a simple reason why there was no large scale outbreak amongst schools at the start, it was because there was no large scale outbreak anywhere before it all got shut down.

Really?? Most people I know dont have time to be going on forums at work. Theres no one bashing teachers, why so defensive all the time. They know they have it handy at the moment, just admit it and dont be so hostile.

Every teacher I know wants to be back in school because there are other issues to deal with other than academics. At the moment I have a couple of children who have very ill relatives, non covid related, and I wish I could offer face to face support like I normally do. I am ringing and emailing but it is not the same.

I cannot speak for all, but I can speak for myself and the rest of our staff, we are dying to get back to the classroom. I work in a disadvantaged area so I understand how important school is for them so it is very tough for them. Things would be so much easier if we could teach normally, but it is unwise and unsafe to do so right now. Online teaching and posting work home to those with no technology is the best port of call right now.

Kids are human too, they can carry the virus just like you or me. That's good enough reason alone, but add in how congested a school can be, it is pretty self-explanatory why schools are showing no signs of opening. The logistics of dropping kids to school and collecting them alone is a nightmare, and the real task doesn't begin until they enter the door. I wish that wasn't the case but it is.

To be brutally honest I'd be surprised if things were back to 100% normality this side of Christmas.

Oh in sure that's exactly what will happen, whilst everyone else has to return to work as normal. It's an absolute joke having schools closed. You obviously couldn't give one ****e about the disadvantaged children with that comment about Christmas. Coronavirus will be the least of their problems at that stage. But you do you and look after yourself.

Those children should be at school then getting a much needed break and some normality from their very tough life.

Hearty some of your posts are rude and teacher bashing and having dealt with you on another thread I have seen how rude you can be.

I spend about 12 hours a day planning uploading and correcting work so a few minutes out of that wont make a difference. I have been online since 6am and probably wont be off until 1am but that is my choice. I had a kid email me a quesiton at 1030 last night so I answered it as that kid was working on an assignment. I was just discussing with other teachers today during a meeting that some of the kids send messages/questions at 2am and 3am and that is nuts

When I was classroom I would get home nd see the threads mad busy all day kept going by people in offices etc.

Working from home with a two year old and slow internet while worrying about my LC students, who I wasn't even allowed to say a proper goodbye to, isn't handy.

I'm using forums to stop myself from screaming in frustration at my computer which seems to only upload or download a document in 10 minute intervals, which makes correcting and sending work to students a bloody nightmare!

I wish we were back at school. Life would be much easier and we would actually finish at the end of May as usual. As it stands now I don't know when we'll finish as the "well thought out " plan on the LC still has not been finalised so teachers cannot get on with whatever it is they expect us to do.

Anyway, you obviously think you know better even though your ill-informed judgments have already been proven incorrect.

Ok maybe your that teacher in a million, but would you like me to message you the contact my child has had with his teacher or school since this has began??
His teacher sends one screenshot of a book page daily, dont get me wrong I'm.well capable of teaching my young son without the teachers help.
I'm just pointing out that not all teachers have your work ethic.
Apologies if I offended you, have a good day.

I am fascinated to know what you mean by this. There's no way schools will just open like normal as if nothing happened on Day 1 of the school year in August/September. There is going to be a day on day off, class in, class out schedule for months most likely. Once again, I don't think you understand the logistics of schools and the social distancing hazard they bring. A class of 25+ cannot just jump back into a classroom. The whole country is supposed to mingle only in groups of 4 right now, how do you expect a whole class to mingle right away, let alone 8 classes of children plus staff. It is just not realistic. That's why I think January next year is when we finally have every child back in their school with their peers and the whole teaching staff.

I give up, you win I'm sure the schools will never open again. There will never be a treatment or a vaccine, it's so sad for children that no one is on there side and anyone who is gets shouted down for being wrong.
Does no one actually care for their welfare?
The whole world will be over this and our poor children will still be at home.
Its actually so depressing being on this thread and to read that not one teacher is in support of schools opening.

I dont need work I need the teacher to show any interest or care for the children. Maybe a little video to say hello to a few of the children individually each week. Maybe take 30 minutes out of her day to do this. I know its alot to ask. By the way I'm not alone, any parents I have spoken to feel the same.

Recent research from University of East Anglia found school closures among the most effective measures in stopping spread of coronavirus. Our own NPHET said the R0 fell from 4.5 to 2.7 during the time between school closures and wider lockdown. There are some studies that are less clear, but your statement above is unsurprisingly not based in fact.

Thanks I'm well aware of how schools work, my eldest daughter works in a bank headquarters with 100 plus people each day explain to me the 4 people together again. The government don't tell anyone about this, or the people in warehouses filling your online orders everyday. This is the real world, parents like this coming home to their children everyday.

    CHILDREN ARE NOT SUPER SPREADERS[/QUOTE]

Have you read any of the updated research or just relying on the boyfriend in law? This is new virus that is developing every day. It was assumed that children could not catch or spread it, that is slowly proving wrong.

Along with that, we have the development of Paediatric Multisystem Inflammatory Disease, which is becoming more prevelant as doctors know what to look out for. This virus is changing so quickly. The Chinese and other countries are now going back over old cases of chidren to see if they had it.

If only someone would think of the children!!! No one here apart from the voices in your head has said to keep schools closed, in fact we would all prefer to be back in the classroom. Every one of us is thinking of the children but you have a narraitve in your head that is not for changing.

IF you knew anything about teaching you will know that a huge part of the job is looking out for children's welfare so we keept in contact with the ones we know are vunerable but that is not going to be discussed with the school parental body so you do not know what teachers are dealing with and it is nit just abuse or neglect.

You havent received a call maybe becuase your teacher thinks your child is ok and is dealing with the more vunerable children who have issued you would not even believe or know of.

Your statement is incorrect studies in Scandinavia show no correlation between school closures and virus numbers.

I think this is a very good point, so many people running scared hiding under their bed not realising that life is going on as normal for so many others throughout the country.

Workers across the country still turning up day after day (and despite best efforts we know social distancing is not always possible and people find it inherently difficult to adhere to anyway).

If anything at least this has shown which sectors are actually essential and which ones are not.

If schools are not going to open then a nationwide homeschooling scheme will need to be introduced. Teachers and ancillary staff can't be kept on indefinitely if this happens.

There will be the best part of 6 months between the schools closing and them reopening in early September.
If the brains in the Department of Education and all of the highly qualified teachers can't plan a system or getting opening with all that entails re:physical distancing etc, in 6 months, then Fvck me, we're as well off leaving the kids at home! It's not that complicated sure....

It is called following government guidelines and people working have to follow them too. Sorry you feel it is ok to put children at risk but most people feel listening to the guidelines is the way. Have you considered opening a private school or bushschooling?

What exactly would the teacher know about my child, she started in January as maternity leave cover. They finished in march, lots here and in real life agree with me. Seems like from reading your posts you spend most of your time playing games. Maybe a jolt into the real world would do you the world of good. As for the boyfriend in law who she refers to, he is a trainee gp who is currently working in psychiatry. To hear his experience is truly frightening, but yes keep the schools closed that's definitely saving lives.
