A lot of posters are really criticising the government's handling of this especially with regard to nursing and care homes. EVERY country has had a problem with this. The Spanish abandoned some of their care homes and left the elderly to fend for themselves FFS. The UK aren't even counting them in their stats. I personally think they've been doing a relatively good job.

Ireland hitched itself to the UK back in late March and they'll be no plan until the UK announces something.

Yeah as I said let's wait and see what they say Friday.

If it's nothing then let's have a go.

Can you wait a few days?

There will be no plan unveiled on Friday.

There will be very token changes to the restrictions currently in place.

That is not an exit plan or even an indication of one.

So you going on about Friday is not useful

    Government spokesman said today ->
“The NPHET will consider the current restrictions further this Friday May 1st, in advance of a Cabinet meeting later on Friday.”

The position will be reviewed this coming Friday, but unless the disease figures change drastically, it’s not expected there will be any major changes.

    Dying for a round? :pac:

I struggle mentally sometimes and I spend most of my free time outdoors, either playing golf, walking the dogs or out with the kids. I don't do well at home for extended periods of time. Christmas can be a nightmare for me.

Golf is a huge part of my life, so yes, I would love a round. I'm also a father and business owner. My kids are doing reasonably well but the frustration is building. I've built up the business for the past 15 years and I'm currently looking at it slipping away as each week passes.

Prepare yourself for more lockdown ladies and gentlemen. They wont be much easing of restrictions for another few weeks.

From my listening of today's briefing, were on lockdown until 2 weeks after the 18th of May if there is a need to test 100,000 a week. We might not need to test that much we won't really know for a week at least it depends on the referrals from GP's when testing is widened.

It's really depressing the lack of political Opposition in this country to hold the government to account, the Irish people have only themselves to blaim thought for voting for wasters like SF and Richard Boyd Barrett

plan, what plan - what a joke.

the only plan currently known of and indicated, is to not make any change.

Not changing anything is still a plan though, whether you think it's a joke or not.

The NPHET team is large and unwieldy. Met today and kicked it on to Friday. Usual Irish problem, paralyzed to make decisions. Several European countries are planning, but as usual, no planning here. I expect we will be last to open and businesses will crash.

Who are these 100k people they'll be testing per week?

yes but did the other countries move current patients out of hospitals into nursing homes in an effort to free space which in the end was not required?

(with indications being that some of them were even showing symptoms of CV19)

Don't worry it was a joke, it must be gutting to see what you've worked so hard for face hard times through no fault of your own. If common sense prevails then golf will be one of the first things to be reintroduced along with other activities like water sports, hiking etc.

People flouted the rules and the authorities haven't done enough to stop them.
That's why we're facing increased lockdown time.
But there's no point in doing it unless a different approach to enforcement is taken.

Why, how many cases have been caused by people flouting the rules?

Did that actually happen though...or did someone post it here and everyone ran with it? I haven't heard it mentioned elsewhere.

Come off it. We've hit the targets set out to us. The HSE have failed to hit theirs.

Probably a good month or so left of the current measures.

saying that is just semantics really.

it's pretty obvious that the powers that be here don't really know where to go next.

and will be looking to other countries for crib notes.

Harris predicted 15k tests daily in mid March, only Minister speak. This 100k per week sounds good but usual HSE spin. That’s a million by July. Two million tested by October. No good if results take weeks.

Was that news item on the NPHET meeting filmed today ?
They were on top of each other with no two inches between them
Also the Guards outside the court with no masks and no distance between any of them ?
Meantime we can’t see our familys at a distance to chat for 10 minutes ?

If I was in their position, I'd be doing the same. It's the most obvious thing to do. Other countries are further down the path than we are.

references some other article that I can't find ooline

    https://extra.ie/2020/04/26/news/irish-news/hse-patients-virus-care-homes
Patients transferred into nursing homes from hospitals hit by Covid-19 sparked fatal outbreaks among vulnerable residents, nursing home operators have claimed.

Despite the risks associated with these transfers, the Health Service Executive emptied as many hospital beds as possible in this fashion as it prepared to deal with the pandemic.

Hospital patients were deemed eligible for transfer to care homes even if they were showing symptoms and had been identified as close contacts of others who were Covid-positive.

I can't see us needing that many tests, lockdown was pointless if that many people are coming forward then. I'd hope the figure being tested would be in the low thousand or less.

if they were even doing that well they could outline a roadmap of sorts.

    but nothing has been outlined

only more stagnation which just looks weak tbh and annoys people

I'm amazed that got aired. All the NPHET sitting right next to each other around the table, zero social distancing. These are the people telling us we can't see our families and destroying people's livelihoods. I wonder will it make the 9 o'clock news.

The lockdown will probably go on till they find a vaccine we don't even know if infected people make antibodies and now children getting sick with some inflammatory disease and the people in power think all this was caused by somebody eating a bat no way that lab in Wuhan should be searched from top to bottom

    No worries, Spencer 👍

As the numbers being tested go up, the ICU rate on confirmed cases goes down. It's around 1.8% currently.

With just that in mind I think it's absolute overkill continuing the current restrictions.

At the very least the 2km limit should be lifted, certain stores should be reopened and many who can't work from home let back to work.

It honestly feels like the government have gone AWOL in the past 2 weeks.

If the above doesn't happen Friday, the government deserve any unrest that comes their way.

I'm still sticking to the rules but the apathy is growing stronger by the day.

Time to share your masterplan lads or move the fvcking restrictions back pronto.

First it was flatten the curve. Curve flattened.

Then it was make sure we have ICU overflow. Don't we have about 600/700 beds ready if really needed?

That R number, get it as close to 1 or below. What's it now. 0.4?

    Ridiculous carry on.

They'll need that capacity if they loosen restrictions, but want to be able to jump on any cases and be able to confirm quickly, and follow up on their contacts with tests.

That's the only way they can hopefully prevent any sudden surges if our social distancing reduces (which it will in spades once there's the slightest hint of a relaxation)

Is it possible the June bank holiday will be locked down also I'd say
They might because that will also the last one for a long time up to Aug.
